The sad thing about this is, they were good songs at first until they were all overplayed by 1980. -Wheel in the Sky - Freebird - Turn the Page - Sweet Home Alabama - Back in Black (entire album) - Totally agree on Stroke! There’s many more. Enough to do a series of these videos. Note: I was sick of these songs by 1980. Imagine what playing them 3 times a day for the NEXT 40 years did……

Who even listens to the radio anymore? I thought I’m an odd duck - Quack! - because I often listen to sports talk radio; or the news station for traffic and weather, heading to and from work. Mostly, however, l play CDs in my car. Almost every time l used to switch to the FM band in my car, the darn rock station was playing commercials so I’ve given up on FM! Therefore, l don’t even know what’s currently getting too much airplay in the classic rock world. Two that spring to mind, from back in the day: “Rock and Roll” by Led Zeppelin and “Start Me Up” by The Rolling Stones. Cheers and Cherry Cheese Churros. Rock Out and Prog On! Good question. I don't listen to radio much at all but when I do I hear the same ol same ol. Even Sirius radio plays the same batch of songs over and over. Many bands overplay some of their songs in concert. Other events you may attend like sporting events and other things sometimes have music and you hear the same old songs. They are everywhere so we came up with a list. Hope you enjoyed.

Unfortunately, there are many bands and artists who can only tap into the public’s imagination for a very short time. The Outfield, sadly, were one of those acts. I’m sure Columbia never expected their debut to go double platinum. After that, the label probably figured that the next album would sell platinum by reputation alone. So, they probably put their money into NKOTB or some new artist they were promoting. This left Bangin’ to sort of twist in the wild and wither on the vine. It went gold but had no big hits. I remember hearing four singles from the debut on rock - and top 40 - radio and nothing after that. Adding to the fact that the album had a dumb title and a terrible cover image, just didn’t do the band any favors. I’m sure Columbia put their money elsewhere and didn’t promote The Outfield properly. They probably should have done some kind of promotion with MLB, but hindsight is 20/20… isn’t it? Once they moved over to MCA - the Music Cemetery of America - their salad days were truly over. Just ask Triumph, Kansas, Night Ranger, Giuffria, etc. MCA May have been alright for pop groups and R&B artists, but DEFINITELY NOT rock bands. Sigh… Keep doing the thing that you do! Cheers from the sweltering 🥵 apple. 🍎 Rock Out, Prog On and Pogo! Your clone and mine, ~ The Semiserious, Delirious, Davey Cretin, from CRETIN CLASSICS.

I’d like to give some love to an underrated member of this new Asia lineup, Irish guitarist John Mitchell. Since 1997, he’s slowly been making a name for himself in the progressive-rock community. I first heard of him when he took over the vacant guitar slot in UK proggers Arena. Since then, he’s been a vital cog in the sound of this great Prog act. His guitar pyrotechnics and emotional playing can best be heard on the following Arena albums: The Visitor (1998), Pepper’s Ghost (2005), The Seventh Degree of Separation (2011) and most recently, The Theory of Molecular Inheritance (2022). His solos always wring deep feelings from within him, much like David Gilmour or Camel’s Andy Latimer. Yet, he also has the speedy type modern sheen and skill of Trevor Rabin. Check out his stinging six-string skills on “The Hanging Tree” or “The Visitor.” Truly a gifted guitarist. Besides his guitar wizardry, he’s also an ace lead - and backing - vocalist. He fronted British stalwarts It Bites in the 2000s, subbing for original guitarist/vocalist Francis Dunnery. Check out his fiery fretwork - and lead vocals - on the band’s “Cartoon Graveyard” or “Playground.” He also sang lead vocals and did guitar work for the short lived prog-rock supergroup Kino. Their debut album has prog, pop and rock elements, all blending into a melodic stew. Powerful album opener “Loser’s Day Parade” highlights both Mitchell’s guitar and vocal prowess. Mitchell has also played with UK prog-rock band Frost* as well as fronting his own own project Lonely Robot for the past near decade. John has additionally produced and engineered albums for over a dozen other artists and bands, too. A Jack of All Trades, perhaps? 🤔 Yes, most definitely. I’ll end with the fact that including studio albums, live records, DVDs 📀 and EPs, Mitchell is credited on over forty releases in the past 27 years. And that DOES NOT EVEN INCLUDE his production credits with other artists, just releases he’s actually played on. An unheralded cat, how about that?! Keep up the cool reviews. Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍎 Rock Out and Prog On… … in each and every lexicon! Your clone and mine, ~ The Delirious Doppelgänger of Davey Cretin, from CRETIN CLASSICS.

Styx is doing great. I know all the "Dennis only" zealots don't think so, but they tend to be delusional anyway. As a decades long hard core fan, DeYoung was my least favorite songwriter during their popular A&M heydays. I found some of his lyrics either strange, condescending, or boring. Writing love songs to his wife all the time doesn't do anything for me. The reason Styx hasn't been inducted into the RRHOF is because one of the main people there, Jann Wrenner, has specifically & absolutely HATED the band since the 70's. However, JW is no longer in the organization now. So maybe they have a chance to be inducted. I've listened to a lot of interviews from the band. Dennis basically told them they couldn't tour without him. That's why he was fired. Had nothing to do with his health issues, as his fans claim. And let's not forget, he tried to sue them in federal court. In my opinion, DDY sealed his own fate after that debacle. I don't blame JY and Tommy for not wanting him back. They've been touring for 25 years. There's no way they could have gone for so long with a controlling drama king like DDY around. Anyone who knows their history, is aware of DeYoung's distain for being on the road. If they hadn't kicked DDY to the curb, Styx would have been finished back in 1999...

I always post my comments before I watch the episode, so I am not tempted by the panel's selections. Here are my top 10 Led Zeppelin songs. 1. "Whole Lotta Love" - Led Zeppelin II - THE ultimate Led Zeppelin song. Nothing will ever top how I felt hearing that riff for the very first time way back when it was released!!! 2. "Since I've Been Loving You" - Led Zeppelin III - The slow blues masterpiece. The scoop and range of this track is epic. Bonham's groove is infectious. A perfect song! 3. "Achilles Last Stand" - Presence - A Tour De Force! Unrelenting drive from Bonham. JP Jones is huge, and so solid. Jimmy Page is just electric. Stunning composition and performance. 4. "How Many More Times" - Led Zeppelin - That driving riff and soaring vocals from Plant! Bonham is thunderous and Jimmy Page is spectacular. He carried over the playing his guitar with a violin bow and it is so spooky! Of course, there are plenty of uncredited moments from the original blues masters, but still a stunning performance. "They call me the hunter!" 5. "Bring It on Home" - Led Zeppelin II - A very cool track! The intro is awesome but once that closing riff starts, it might be one of the heaviest moments on a Led Zeppelin album! 6. "Ten Years Gone" - Physical Graffiti - By far my favorite track from this album. Everything about it is so incredible and nothing else on any of their albums sounds like it. 7. "When the Leevee Breaks" - Led Zeppelin IV - Another song that was heavily "borrowed" from the original blues master's, but it might be the most powerful drum track ever recorded. Sheer perfection. The standard by which all other drum sounds are measured. Plus, it is a very dark and moody track!! Perfect way to end Led Zeppelin IV. 8. "We're Gonna Groove" - Coda - How this didn't make an official release is beyond me. Pure adrenalin and it is one of the many showcases for the trio of Jones, Page and Bonham to shine on!!! 9. "That's the Way" - Led Zeppelin III - I had to include this. Before "Going to California" and the "Battle of Evermore" there was this gentle and beautiful track. One of Plant's greatest vocal deliveries it has so much character and mojo to it, it stands up even the much heavier guitar driven songs. Huge fan of this track! 10. "Tea for One" - Presence - Might be my favorite Jimmy Page solo! So melodic so simple but impressive performance. That super solo blues is haunting and magical!! Honorable - "All of My Love" - In through the Outdoor - Bonham is so massive here. Sadly, he would be gone not too long afterwards. Now I can hear your picks!!!

Interesting show, ya likely lads! Too bad l had a prior commitment and couldn’t join ya. I’ll do what l usually do when me ol’ mucker bicyclelegs does his anniversary album shows, I’ll comment on each individual choice. Gary “My Sharona” Cherone ~ Oofa! That album never grabbed me personally. However, l did have a coworker at a former record store gig that loved it! Obvs, we both disliked “How Many Say I” with EVH on lead vox. Other than that, he played it quite a bit and l never objected because it’s not terrible, just not for me. Much like the final Triumph studio album without Rik. And, l have to add that I simply adore the third Extreme album. Arnel Pineda ~ A very good replacement for Perry, but NO ONE is Steve Perry. Even Steve Perry ISN’T Steve Perry anymore! Rad Mystic Occupationalist loves talkin’ trash 🗑️ about Pineda, but ya gotta admit that the kid is quite good. In fact, he’s not a kid anymore, he’s a man… baby! What an unenviable task, replacing the clear, capable, clarion call of Perry. But Pineda’s done it with panache and aplomb. Ray Wilson ~ IS an odd choice. But, that album is one l liked better than VH 3. “The Dividing Line” is my favorite out the 4 longer, proggy tunes; “Congo,” “Shipwrecked” and “Not About Us” are cool singles. Another album always intrigued me, but unfortunately Mike and Tony pulled the plug. 🔌 Brian Howe ~ He had a great voice. I saw them tour with Damn Yankees and they were quite good. HOWEver, it was a very different band, as you so succinctly stated. More in the AOR vein, less blues rock. Also of note, as you said, his time with Unca Teddy. His lead vocal on “Tied Up in Love” is powerful, bro! Ronnie “The Trucker” Platt ~ Talk about 🎵”Don’t ask me how, but guess who hit the big time!”🎵 Although he fronted the phenomenally underrated Shooting Star, he was basically driving a truck when he auditioned for the band. After no studio album for over 15 years, Platt helped to restore the band, both in the studio and on the live stage. During the 90s and 2000s, l saw Kansas in small clubs. Now, with Platt, Rizvi and the rest of their revitalized lineup, they’re back to playing in larger theatre venues. And although The Prelude Implicit is good, The Absence of Presence is even better. He’s not as amazing as Walsh was in the 70s and 80s, but since he joined the band, they’re performing songs that Kansas haven’t played for years, decades, or have never touched before! Leaping’ Larry Gowan ~ No doubt that he’s a talented cat, but he ain’t DDY. The band couldn’t go on the way is was in 1998/1999. Too much bad blood and personality clashes led to a parting of the ways between DDY and the JY/TS axis. And now, 25 later later, it’s not going to change. Gowan is good and the band always bring the thunder live, but the studio albums from the last 23 years don’t match up to the classic period for me. Keep up the wonderful work. Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍎 Rock Out, Prog On and Pogo! Your pal and mine, ~ The Dynamite 🧨 and Dynamic Davey Cretin, from CRETIN CLASSICS. PS: Thanks for the shoutout! 🍦 🍦 🍦

To be clear, Dennis did not leave STYX. They left him. He was experiencing symptom's of fatigue and doctors eventually diagnosed him with Epstein Barr syndrome. Once diagnosed, doctors were able to help him through medication. Only problem is that the band was too anxious to get out on the road after the release of the Edge Of The Century album. So they hired a new singer and left him at home while they hijacked HIS band.

I found the first album on tape in a bargain bin, and it became one of my favorites, just like finding a gold nugget.-"Rock on the Radio" intro is a total rush.(Who said Heroin is never as good as the first time) All the songs are good, but the first 3 always stood out for me in my one track mind 20's. I would play this alongside Tesla quite often.,, I'd like to see a showdown between The great Radio Controversy and The First Firehouse Album.

“Gramps Christian Anderson” STILL sounds exquisite for a 79 year old man! Very few singers sound as stellar as Jon does, for a man of his years. (I’m not acting snarky, just being blunt.) Two that come to mind: Dennis DeYoung (ex-Styx) and Glenn Hughes (ex-Deep Purple). One might say that they’re all freaks of nature. And Band Geek leader/bassist Richie Castellano is also a vital cog in another favorite band of mine: the mighty Blue Öyster Cult! He’s a talented musician in his own right, from Staten Island, New York. He writes songs, sings, plays any stringed instrument, produces, creates videos… he’s a jack of all trades. Good show, bro. Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍏 Rock Out, Prog On and Pogo! Frog 🐸 On… in each and every lexicon! Your clone and mine, The Divine Doppelgänger of Davey Cretin, from CRETIN CLASSICS.

“Dream of Mirrors!” Yes! I love it! No one EVER talks about how friggin’ phenomenal that particular song is! Whoot Whoot!! You nailed it, Joseph. Definitely the highlight of the Bruce Bruce reunion album, in my humble opinion. Brave New World is also my favorite of the “ROB” (Return Of Bruce) era. Chris JUST nailed an important point about the band. Sometimes, Maiden repeat the chorus of a song far too many times for my taste. This is absolutely the case with the tune “Fear of the Dark” and some other tracks as well. Judas Priest almost fall prey to this on their newest release, but not nearly as often as Iron Maiden do. Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍎 Rock Out, Prog On and Party! Your capricious clone and mine, ~ The Dynamite, 🧨 Dynamic Doppelgänger of Davey Cretin, from CRETIN CLASSICS.

Thanks for having me on, gentlemen. As usual, an extremely fun time was had by all! Tommy Shaw is my “White Whale.” 🐋 I met the other four gentlemen from the classic lineup on the Edge of the Century tour, but much to my chagrin, l never got to meet Mr. Shaw. I had great encounters with DDY, JY and the Panozzo twins. (Glen Burtnik was sick and did not attend the aftershow party.) I will tell that full story, in the near future, on my channel. Maybe one day I’ll see Styx again live, but l doubt I’ll ever meet that last member of the 1970s lineup. The music of Styx meant a lot to me as a young “Noo Yawk Yewt.” In the late 1970s and very early 80s, they were the toast of the town. Then, when Kilroy Was Here came out, they sort of became persona non grata and out of vogue. New wave (Duran Duran, Eurythmics, etc.) and harder edged rock (Quiet Riot, Mötley Crüe, etc.) were all the rage and Styx was seen as a dinosaur act. The band took a hiatus as the three principle songwriters embarked on solo careers. As it usually happens, the individuals were not as strong alone, as they were in the group collective. People change, times change and musical trends absolutely change; but I’ll always love the music of Styx from 1976 to 1983. (And the John Curulewski period from 1972-1975, too.) Thanks for letting me appear and talk some Shaw with y’all. Cheers from The Big Apple. 🍎 Rock Out, Prog On and Pogo! Your clone and mine, ~ The Dinosaur 🦖 Doppelgänger of the Delirious Davey Cretin, from CRETIN CLASSICS. PS: Something l said came out very muddled. What l MEANT to say was that Mr. Shaw doesn’t seem to be a very PROLIFIC songwriter. I think he DOES write great songs, just not enough songs in general. I love so many Styx songs he wrote like “Man in the Wilderness,” “Lights,” “Love in the Midnight,” “Just Get Through This Night,” etc. Same with his Damn Yankees, Shaw/Blades and his solo work. I just wish he had a bigger solo catalog over the past 40 years. I just wanted to clarify that.

I agree with Davey that "Mother" is actually a great song, but I understand why it rubs a lot of people the wrong way. I wish you guys talked about Stewart and Miles Copeland since in recent interviews Stewart Copeland seemed to suggest that he was much more involved in managing the band in the early days than people realized, so I wasn't sure how much his brother was actually involved. Great video overall, though. Anyways, this is my ranking: 1. Ghost in the Machine 2. Reggatta de Blanc 3. Synchronicity 4. Outlandos d'Amour 5. Zenyatta Mondatta ("Canary in a Coalmine" is like nails on a chalkboard to me)

Scorpions unintentionally more or less were so ahead of their time.. some would say that beatles or eagles did that but man you can literally hear a rare kind of blend, something so unconventional and untamed in the way Roth used to have his voice in the tracks. It's like they did a 'featuring' from within the members of the band like when you can also hear Rudolf sing as well in the records. I mean what a provilidge to have such chronicle! The guitarist alone and the guitarist, vocalist of a band blending their voices in such a unique way as they did in their record albums.

Similar to how I’d rank them but I’d have Rockeye ahead of Diamond Days. It’s a better album imo. It’s underrated. It was John Spinks favourite Outfield album. They sound revitalised on it. I’d rank it third or fourth. Diamond Days is good but sounds a little tired. Like you I think the best 2 are Play Deep and Voices Of Babylon but they’re all good really. I have a feeling Tony Lewis committed suicide

Dude! I really only recall the four hits from the debut album. And they’re all great songs, man! For some silly reason, l thought they were ALL top twenty Billboard singles on the HOT 100. As it turns out, they were all top twenty tunes on the Billboard ROCK chart. Duh on me. Darn that Mandela effect! Once again, like a goon, l misremembered history. I definitely remember the first three Columbia album covers; and even the two CD covers from MCA, the infamous Music Cemetery of America. I didn’t even know they released more albums after that! Bizarre! Well, l guess you learn something new everyday. I’ll definitely have to listen to more of their oeuvre in the near future. Thanks for another cool show. Cheers from The Big Bog Apple. 🐛 🍏 Rock Out, Prog On and Power-Pop! Your doppelgänger and ours, ~ The Relatable, Inflatable, Intangible, Davey Cretin from CRETIN CLASSICS.

See?! I was wondering why l should watch this episode… and now I have discovered the reason! As a diehard dyed-in-the-wool progressive-rock fan, I’m quite curious to hear this near sixteen minute track. Especially since it’s reminiscent of side two of the classic Abbey Road album. That’s one of my favorite albums by The Beatles! Sounds quite intriguing indeed. Indubitably! There’s always gold to found in the least likely places. Keep up the good work, men.
