    Ke'e Beach has a strong rip current which is actually to the far left side of the beach next the rocks and the land which jets out. I am an avid swimmer living in Hawaii for 40 years on Oahu. I almost got sucked out to sea in calm water on this beach. On different islands I have had bad experiences. In seemly descent water. On Maui Makena Beach I was pinned to the bottom of the ocean by a 3 foot wave. Hawaii oceans have taken many lives. ask locals before you jump in.

    How do you know that it marks the route? How do you know that the person that built the cairn was looking for the same thing you are? How do you know that its the best route? Learn how to navigate and forget following cairns that may lead you astray.

    • @RealAdventureTheory
      @RealAdventureTheory Před 14 dny

      @@rumidude in this landscape, cairns are the standard for route marking. Just like in barren and rocky mountain landscape. And they nearly always lead to the particular destination because in effect, they are the trail. On slick rock terrain you don’t get well worn paths like you do on soil, so rock stacks mark the way. You know they lead to your destination because when you follow them you arrive at your destination. Since nothing is 100% there are occasional detour markers but out here those aren’t common. In this kind of landscape they are very reliable and have been used for centuries. Especially when it comes to braided canyons that are more of a maze. The cairns save countless miles of looking for the best way up, down, through or around. Cairns have always been used.

    • @rumidude
      @rumidude Před 14 dny

      @RealAdventureTheory My experience has been almost the opposite. More often than not following cairns have been a frustrating waste of time, which is why I ignore them now and navigate otherwise. I have traveled extensively in desert, slick-rock, canyon country, etc with the same results. I rarely kick over cairns, but on occasion I have if I know they are wrong. And I never place cairns. There are really very few situations where cairns are required. YMMV
