  • Hiking the Crystal Ball Cave is best described as walking through a Geode. The cave system is so full of crystal that it at one time was used as a crystal mine. Located on the Nevada / Utah Border off Highway 50 in an area called Garrison or Gandy (depending on what map you use) not far from The Great Basin National Park. The cave sits on a private ranch but tours are available to the public and the ranch has a campground available for use (book tours and campsites or cabins in advance). The cave is not huge when compared to The Lehman Caves in The Great Basin National Park but the Crystal Ball Cave is incredibly unique in the fact that so many of the walls are literally made from crystal.
There is a mild half mile hike from the parking lot to the cave entrance but the trail is an uphill walk with an additional quarter mile walk through the cave. The walking is not easy compared to walking down a level paved path but most people shouldn't have much trouble. I took a 2 and a half year old toddler and she managed the trail pretty well. And at the end of the tour you are permitted to collect crystals at the exit of the cave.

Definitely look it up, also nearby is the Gandy warm springs (that video is uploading soon) and also The Lehman Caves. I have a video on that on my channel. They are all really close to each other.
