Update 1/4/24. I have assessed the vinyl records in the auction lot that I purchased. Of the 102 records I expect to offer for sale at fairs about 50. The remainder will either be donated or discarded. Having regard to condition of the vinyl and sleeves I have priced 50 as follows: 4 at £15 * 4 at £10 12 at £5 30 at 3 for £10 This comes out to be £260. Of course, some will not sell and some wil...

    Prices according to Discogs but the question is : is it the real price on Discogs ? More , there is no official book who evaluate the price of the records.

    • @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023
      @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023 Před 2 dny

      I understand the price figures on Discogs are based on real transactions for the particular record and pressing. Of course, the figures reflect sales in many territories and might deviate from the UK market taken in isolation. Anyway, its probably the best available guide to prices in real time. Thanks for watching.

    I sense a Warwick moment coming one here, are there plans afoot to step up into the big time of hundreds of pounds per album? I hope not as I feel its dangerous territory, but if anyone is savvy enough to pull it off its you Richard! Lots of good sellers in the first lot. Does Tull sell well? The second lots should fly off the stall, alot to sell n do deals on. I think this may be a way forward for my record fair aspirations. Ok how much for the Quad? What's the discount if the Who are you is included? maybe I could get you a short tripod 🤔, cheers 👍 #Bolos

      I'm not the 'big bucks' record guy, Stevie... my motto is Pile Them High And Sell Them Cheap! That's what most visitors to record fairs want. The first bundle is only OK - the winners there are the Talk Talk and Steely Dan albums but enough £tenner records to cover my a** as there are really too many bargain bin records. Jethro Tull is not a good seller. But the Sparks albums I wanted are great! The second bundle is really good - lots of £tenner and £more records in there. At just over £three average cost a pop for all those records have to make a profit, eventually. Look forward to visiting your stall at a record fair one day... "this time next year, Rodders"!

    OMD's Architecture & Morailty seems to be in four UK sleeve variants, Blue, Grey, Yellow and Blue (no Die cut) I don't think any one is scarcer than the other and all seem to be around roughly the same value. Dazzle Ships seems to go for more, perhaps as the packaging is slightly more elaborate.

      @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023 Před 21 dnem

    Again overpriced Bowie albums, crazy prices. I have both the Bowie Hunky Dory laminated records Gem on the back and the rarer non Gem which obviously is not printed . I bought quite a few years ago for about £250 for both on eBay. Also bought Space Oddity ( David Bowie) for just over £300 about 15 years ago and TMWSTW dress cover recently for £950 . With the sale /buying price plus commissions this is ridiculous. BTY how much was the 3D Raven ?

    • @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023
      @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023 Před 22 dny

      Those were indeed very strong prices for the Bowie UK 1st pressing albums. TMWSTW 'dress' sleeve was competed for and the underbidder dropped out at the bidding increment below of £1,300. The Stranglers Raven album cost £62 all-in. Thanks for watching and commenting, Mike.

  • @Thevinylscavenger

    There's a ton of top sellers you'll do well again. It is noticeable the difference of them compared to things people don't want. I don't think Alan Parsons sells well at all and one of those there the 80s one is very dated and is terrible. Ammonia avenue.

      Hi Martin. There are quite a few albums in the first bundle I showed that will head straight to my fairs 'any 3 for £10' box, including The Doobies, but others should make more. At an average cost of just over £3 an album have to be happy with the buys.

    Richard I enjoyed listening to your clip. I used to watch VC clips but grew annoyed with all the professional record hustlers. I find myself more interested in hobbyist rather than record shop owners. I happen to be a hobbyist who somehow (through great agony at times from the ex) never rubbished his collection. I always wanted the UK Nirvana album. Perhaps I should trade my US Nirvana albums (multiple copies of each) for a copy of the original?

    That was interesting Richard. I think most of my 90s would make my top ten but I've not listed all on discogs yet. One day I will. Siouxsie didn't sell much they were on a downward spiral by then though some later hits were great. Peepshow and kiss them from me spring to mind. There was tons of best ofs and greatest hits repackaged or compiled as CDs around then. Thanks for sharing.

    • @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023
      @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023 Před měsícem

      Thanks, Martin. It seems that much of the '90's vinyl sells for big prices as demand exceeds the supply - clearly even with 'Best Of's'. Harris said in his comment that he has never seen Siouxsie 'Twice Upon' so that is an indication of it's rarity.

    Prices never cease to amaze me. 90s albums are often worth more as fewer were pressed. Never understood the vertigo swirl thing as some of them are shockers. The two banshees best ofs are tremendous. I rarely see them nowadays, especially that second one. Still looking for that Elf Lp. Interesting stuff Richard. Cheers, Chris

      @Vinyl-Heaven-And-Hell2023 Před měsícem

      Quite agree on prices, Chris. Taking the Heep as an example should it be that expensive just because of the label? The price range for the Divine Comedy 'Best Of' is giddy but further demonstrates that '90's vinyl is pretty rare. The CD of it is £1 in many charity shops.

    Very nice Richard 👏👏👏 Yes I’m the same I’m constantly looking at records and buying and selling but I myself don’t actually keep that many records compared to others in the VC. Thanks for showing the records but also as always saying something interesting about each of them. So many VC members make these videos but don’t actually say what each record is about. They just pop up the record and I think to myself “oh that looks interesting” and quickly put it down 😅 That Uriah Heep is very high on my want list but yes they are quite expensive and I can never find one in my price range that is in good enough condition to buy. Will you be at the fair tomorrow? I’m hoping to make it. I might have a look at my top 10, I did a video over a year ago and yes I think my top 10 might have changed a lot.

      Thanks, Martin, much appreciate your kind words. Yes, I will be at Soton tomorrow. I could have said a lot more about Nirvana. They were pioneering in that their debut album 'The Story Of Simon Simopath' was the first narrative 'rock-opera' album, predating S.F. Sorrow and Tommy by over a year. The song 'Rainbow Chaser' on 'All Of Us' as you may know was the first charting single to feature phasing throughout. The song 'The Touchables' also on the album is the theme song to the film of the same name released in 1968 and largely ignored then but is seemingly now regarded as a cult classic.

    Tip 13 - Always alphabetize the records. The amount of sellers at record fairs that don't alphabetize or even categorize their records is unbelievable. There's no better way of telling people without telling them that you don't respect their time or appreciate their patronage when you don't do these things. If a seller doesn't have their records in alphabetic order or at least categorized by genre I won't bother looking to see what they have. My first question is always how are your records organized and if they tell me they're not and it's all random, I move on to the next table.

    The period here was slightly anti climactic following punk, NME in 76/7/8 was the time to soak up true journalistic hyperbole plus a genuine air of exitement. Not that there wasn't good stuff around but you have Queen & Springsteen as corporates, trogging along through their careers here, by way of contrast to what came before.

Watch your back muscles with the boxes 👍 overpacked is the worst.

      Thanks, Martin. I am hesitating about a card machine because I am not sure it would derive me any additional sales. The buyers at those fairs I attend largely have the ethos of paying in cash. Hope you get the time to sort out your stockpile and get back to selling again soon.

    I shouted out 'a young Deirdre Barlow' but alas I was incorrect. Very surprised to hear of any 'difficulty' in a pub in Cork (not), I wonder what Johnny was commenting on at the time? I bet the band would be shocked at the price of 4be2s now, even plywood has shot up here! 'Puzzled by the success of their debut album' is a great line. Bonham's, 4-5 quadruple vodkas (arriving for rehearsals) described as 'pretty tipsy'!! I saw the Q-Tips supporting the Ooo, very good. Re crossword, I haven't seen the film Scum for ages, Phil Daniels etc. Another great NME vid 👍

      Johnny having a 'difficulty', I was very surprised myself to learn of that as I thought he was a mild mannered fellow. The Q-Tips seemed to get a lot of love in the NME, don't think they sold more than a dozen records ever. But, they gave us Paul Young and I guess their legacy is they invented those little sticks to clean in all the difficult to reach places!

    These are great (despite the slightly shaky hand)! Don't suppose you have any 70's Melody Makers in your collection too?

    i probably bought that issue along with Sounds. Looking back , I’d rather been 16 in 1970 or 1990 when music in my opinion was a heck of a lot more colourful & optimistic. Ho hum. Thanks from 1 mile from SW England 😁👍(ps i saw Rush at southampton Gaumont in May that year but don’t tell the NME faithful )

      I was 16 in the mid '70s and mostly listened to and bought records starting from that time. I have found myself getting more into late '60s / early '70s records in recent years - there was something special about the music scene at that time. Thanks for watching.

    I remember reading the review of the imported Costello compilation, a fine album which I still have.

    Lots of top tips there Richard. I hate it too when a box is rammed, it makes filming a rummage very difficult ; ) I think I've got a few for the £5 bargain box for sure. Its alot of work indeed so I think you deserve a good payoff for your efforts. I am hoping to do a local record fair at some stage just to have a good bargain clear out and for a few things I bought to flip but I gather you need insurance to take part? For my local one its something crazy like a million pounds, I suppose just in case a falling satellite takes everyone out!

      Most fairs organisers (in my experience not all) require the sellers to have their own 'market traders' insurance, in case of claims made for hazards - including personal injury to punters from listening to Todd Rundgren albums!

    Nah, i was buying Sounds mag at the very time and getting hugely into the NWOBHM bands like Iron Maiden , Def Leppard, Diamond Head etc. I980 was the year of Heavy Metal without a doubt but NME ignored it almost completely.

      You are right about NME having little coverage of heavy metal - perhaps the editorial team at NME decided to concentrate on post-punk/new wave/ska revival in the late '70s and early '80s because Sounds (then Kerrang in the '80s) had metal covered?
