Joan Frau Bar in Mercado Santa Catalina, Mallorca
I was lucky to find Maritzar a Spanish teacher and tour guide who showed me Barrio Santa Catalina and in particular Joan Frau Bar a local institution. And also the Santa Catalina Market. Santa Catalina is just outside of Palma the capital and is a little less touristy but has a lot of hip new restaurants. Luckily I met Maritzar while waiting for a bus in Palma. She can more easily be found on Instagram at Maritzar_UR. She helped my Spanish and was even more helpful as a tour guide showing me places I would have missed.

Barcelona Graffiti.These are wonderful graffiti artists who paint on the walls at the back of the Barcelona Zoo with the city ‘s permission. I met one of the artists who was living in Barcelona but was from Canada. Salsa Dancing in Parc Ciutadella in Barcelona, Spain. A lot of Expat Cubans, Locals and some tourists come to dance in the Parc on Thursday and Sunday afternoons. There is also Tango and Swing dancing about a hundred feet away on dais. The dancing is directly under the Golden Statue of a Chariot which is the center piece of Cascada Monumental Fountain in Parc Ciutadella.

W Hotel in Barcelona's Marina district. I stayed at the hotel for one night. The W Hotel is quite expensive and the standard room was going for 550 a night. I was lucky and got an up grade to the 18 th floor with a magnificent view. I am not sure how much this room cost but probably 750 per night. My friend Gloria introduced me to hot chocolate with melindros similar to ladyfingers. You can also have your hot chocolate with churros. This was at a no nonsense cafe called La Palleresa in Barcelona's Gothic district.

La Ciudadela Restaurant in Barcelona. Serving great Catalan food since 1946. Across the street from Parc Ciutadella both a must visit. The restaurant has great food and service. And is away from the more touristy center of Barcelona. Recommended by a young woman archaeologist that I met while having a coffee.

Potatoes and Veggies with left over Ribeye steak. The secret to making crispy potatoes is boil them first on the stove for about 5 to 10 minutes. Light boil. You want the potatoes to be slightly underdone. cool them and then slice. Place in a metal oven pan at 360 degrees for about an hour and 15 minutes. Several weeks ago there was huge surf at Redondo Beach Break water. At least 15 foot face to the waves. It was amazing to watch but quite dangerous for the surfers. I re-corded my voice because it was drowned out by the surf.

I decided to join the local body surfers at Redondo Beach, California after a difficult night. These guys go in every day all year round and some of them without wetsuits. The water temperature was 63 degrees when I went in.
