Haha! Thing I was worried about bees is because bumble bees love blue so my packraft is a magnet and I thought if I got the same from the bees I would've got stranded 😂 hopefully I'll hear ya gate story one day. thx for watching!

@nzadventurer yeah I think I heard on one of your videos that you got bitten by a bumble bee at the lake haha. I thought those things were fairly tame things buzzing around

@HighcountryFlylife haha mate I'm terrified of bumbles now 😂 doesn't help my favourite colour is blue. Got a sick 10 pounder on fly in the canal yesterday 💯🔥👌feeling very happy with that

Been fun but tricky. Sight fished onto and hooked a beast but straightened the hook 😢 so another fishy tale to add to my journal 🤣👌🏽a few more days yet I reckon. It took a fly that I'd tied so that was pretty epic 👌🏽 retied it on stronger hooks now, so just need another chance

It's a good point. Anyone else seen this? I haven't. Definately had a pool ruined by a paro or a shag but never by a kerereru shadow. Trout don't seem to mind sharing with whio

@@nzadventurer Brown trout have a specific niche different from rainbow and their incidence in rivers often interpreted as being more difficult to catch when many rivers have a much reduced percentage presence compared with rainbow so on those rivers you are going to encounter fewer browns. Also browns are a margins habitat occupant rainbows are a mid stream occupant and more particular of water quality, the reason rainbows are more often removed by floods.

I've witnessed this on the Crow and Roaring Lion amongst other rivers in Kahurangi and in Otago. Mostly only ever on rivers that receive arguably excessive fishing pressure. Sandfly repellent contamination of flies will also lead to instant spooking.

Maybe we need a sport to do with sandflies? Not sure if people realise all the neck gaiter and gloves stuff isn't for fashion - the sandies are insane in the south island 🪰🪰🪰💪

Pleased you found that useful. Safety gotta be front of mind being so far in the back country. Not sure I'd be relying on an iPhone to save me all it takes is a fall and you break your leg + the screen and your in deep 💩

Packraft is amazing but did get cold late in the season.

I think I love rivers more. Bruce seems to prefer lakes. Trout stalking I guess is my addiction - hopefully u saw that vid? I grew up fishing lake Okareka (nr Rotorua so easy rainbows using hamils killer, Mrs Simpson, red setter, grey ghost etc). Bit of a different world to these browns in this spot! But a few days hanging with a mate in those surroundings is always going to be superb! I just love being by clear fresh water though to be fair. Thx for watching

@nzadventurer I haven't watched it but I'll get onto it. Yeah any fresh water fishing is great but I find stalking trout on gin clear waters up river exceeds anything a lake can produce. That's my personal opinion. The river varies from big bouldery fast pocket water to flat gentle riffly runs to swirling Eddie's. It's all different where a lake is a lake. They don't differ too much apart from the trout behaviour on each still water location.

@@danielsadventures2897 yeah I get it! I think the same as you whereas Bruce seems to love lake & still water. Can't explain why. Maybe less walking? Doesn't like wet wading? Perhaps the long walks to spooky trout is a bit much for most people 🤔
