I have one of these I obtained for the act of fetching it. One of the generators's notes is sick and gives a broken sound, but I have not wanted to repair it until I can determine what is at fault in order to hopefully replicate the sick note intentionally, because it's actually quite amazing sounding!

used to have one of these.. it's probably the most fun little lo-fi device I've ever had. spent countless hours playing around with it. I found it originally at a thrift store or something. been a long time now. can't even completely remember what happened to it but I've been wanting to replace it at some point but most of the prices online are outrageous. Just have to hope it crosses my path again some day I guess.

Is this a physical tape loop or digital? Really nice and smooth. Reminds me of a possible sequel to the vocal loop intro to ELP's Tarkus. :-)

I worked for Clef electronic Music (boss A J Boothman) for a few years and the String Ensemble was quite old hat by the time I started there but with judicious tweaks of the controls I thought it was easily the best sounding thing he ever did. I put that down to him actually spending some serious design time getting the sounds right (as right as the technology allowed at the time!) whereas he normally had a very rushed attitude to a new product, because we always needed the money. A typical bad business decision of his was to only ever produce the String Ensemble as a kit, I think it could well have competed with the Solina Strings etc if given a decent look and sold in Music shops, but he was a brilliant electronics designer and a singularly lousy businessman (I mean, he took me on as a manager!)

One of my friends had the bigger one and didn't learnt how to play it. I once tried this but this sound was so creepy that we both were simply afraid of it

Thanks for this video. I picked up a Riha syntone on the curb (yes for free) last week. No place for it, so it sits in the garden.😅 It is largely similar to yours,But cant find any documentation on it, nor on Riha! And I do llive in the country where it was produced.
