  • Always have clean hands before you repair a tape.
This one already had the screws removed from the cassette shell casing.
Place something over the reels to stop the tape unwinding by itself (it is very flimsy.)
Avoid touching the OUTER surface of the tape as this is the recorded surface. The inner surface of the tape is safe to touch, and is also the part of the tape to place adhesive tape to join the two ends together.
You used to be able to buy an editing block for 1/4" (reel to reel) and 1/8" inch (cassette) tape, which is easier to edit on. This way is a little less accurate, but ok if you just want to repair a cassette, and are not trying to make any crazy edits you are actually going to be playing!

I take it that cassette has a mega Detroit techno mix on it. It hasn't has it. 📼

I used to do this with sellotape..... I suspect those joints may have failed by now.

Check on eBay or Amazon - search for the make/model of your deck - it might be easier than you think.
There’s bound to be a CZcams video on how to replace the drive belt

I remember one time doing this when a tape I wanted had got chewed up , I knocked it off the table and watched it unroll. It had my clips from the radio, John Peel and Alexis Corner, I can remember some song to this day but don't know who they were by, occasionally I find one on CZcams

Ahh that’s a shame - yes many a good tape got chewed up. I was beside myself when my Beatles white album tape broke, when I was 9
