I have to learn to moan, apparently I more or less stop breathing during rally’s. So my shots get harder instead of playing patiently. I wasn’t aware until a high class coach told me. I also get tired quite quickly. In training drills I usually count the balls loud so that me and my partner know about the placements, etc. When counting (moan) I play more consistent and just better. In matches I still often forget to moan, to progress I have to learn to moan.

As I have been playing regularly for 64 years, changing technique is obviously very difficult and frankly on other TT websites I couldn’t do it. However your demonstration of the short side spin push was a eureka moment for me,and as the Greek guy said,”I have truly found it.”Thank you sincerely for revitalising this previously decrepit old geezer.

My go to tactic. Attack every ball that is long, no matter the cost. The opponent will be so frightened to even return the ball long, that he will start pushing, then push back long to make him either push long, which gives you the opportunity to loop with heavy topspin, or, if the opponent loops your backspin ball, immediately counter it with a topspin. Basically, attack every long ball.

Honestly the spin should not be allowed, few weeks ago I played with some seniors and obviously I was faster, creative and overall better as long as we played normal / flat.. but as soon as this old lady start usings those weird spins almost none of my balls landed on the table etc… it just feels not good because I am obviously more athletic, younger etc overall talented, but of course they are using spiny serves and get free points

  • @jeandurand2094

Unfortunately this is wrong. The only thing you have to focus on is the direction of the racket during the contact with the ball. Other things don't matter.

please, make video about 3 ball attack) if watch match between professional player, they often make mistake on 3 ball attack ( especially if they make difficult serve ). If i make simple serve (float serve, backspin serve l) , my 3 ball attack very good, but if i make pendulum serve or backhand serve i often miss my topspin, because not understand what kind of spin i recieve

The spin doesn't have anything to do with where the ball touches the racket - it only depends on how the racket moves. Also, in the example that you wanted us to see, it only shows the back of the player and the back of the racket - you can't say where the ball touches it.

I have a really hard time returning this serve, particularly the long variations to my backhand side (float, backspin, sidespin topspin or sidespin backspin). I feel like that pushing is very difficult when it long and sometimes the ball bounces at various heights, catching me off guard (sometimes high with no spin at a very awkward spot). My loop ends up feeling very inconsistent, as the ball is also very fast. Because I play penhold RPB, chopping is also not possible. Do you have any tips for returning this? I would rather not anticipate and switch to my forehand as I feel it is important to learn how to deal with it with my backhand.

    • @andrewhou9284

PS. I already saw your video on returning long backhand balls but it still feels difficult especially with this method of serving...

  • @zizo015

Thanks. I have a couple of questions if you could help, 1) normal topspin: arm above the table means actively lifting it? What do you mean by the blade being parallel to the ball, how parallel? 2) against backspin: here you say the arm should be at table level, not letting the arm down, instead body down.. Confused..I see the coaches in the video letting their arm with the pad freely down (head pointing down and arm is almost stretched at 03:00)..? Wouldn't be better to let the arm relaxed freely down while keeping it bent at elbow and then control the height of the pad with the body (knee+hip bent) depending on the coming spin..? For normal topspin the pad would probably be at knee height or behind the thigh and against backspin below the knee.. Sure unless the ball is coming fast or with a lot of topspin then I think actively lifting the arm to be above the table would be better to catch the ball in time Would be nice if you could reply
