I'm just curious. why do you guys close your eyes when drinking sakau? genuine question
Main reason, we'll get scolded if we don't. It's something that is very much expected and enforced wherever you drink sakau in Pohnpei. It may be because of the supposed origins of the sakau which depends on who you ask, or could be because of the respect for the potent fluid that plays a very significant role in Pohnpeian culture.

Hi good video, I lived in Pohnpei for two years as the director of Public Works, Bermin Weilbacher was acting Governor and Resio Moses followed him as the elected Governor. This place has developed so much I do not recognize any of it. I wonder if they have Jack fruit growing on the island. Since it was I who brought six Jack Fruit seeds from my native country planted proper gated and gave the plants to a few people. I would love to find out if the trees are growing. I am now retired and live in Seattle Washington. Sarath Kotelawala.

@@PKPedrusMNB I gave one of the Jack fruit plants to the Varners and it was planted on their property where the US embassy is now another was given to then governor Resio Moses. I planted one in front of the house where I was living right next to the old legislature building the circular structure.. This is all I can remember. Thanks for the reply.
