- Join me on a short ride through the backroads of Palikir as we head to the local sakau market where sakau (kava) is pounded and shared with others right on the side of the road.
The fee is $20.00 for all you can drink and is usually accompanied by some chasers of soup, local food, or your own yummies. The second best thing about the sakau market (after the wonderful, peaceful feeling of sakau) is socializing and catching up with friends or making new friends.
Thanks for joining me on this sakau journey in Palikir, Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia.
If you enjoy sakau or are from Pohnpei, represent the practice of drinking sakau on your shirt: amzn.to/3ybNt6r

Nice...always good to be the first ones in and out...
Thanks my friend. It is. The early bird gets the buzz.
I'm just curious. why do you guys close your eyes when drinking sakau? genuine question
Main reason, we'll get scolded if we don't. It's something that is very much expected and enforced wherever you drink sakau in Pohnpei. It may be because of the supposed origins of the sakau which depends on who you ask, or could be because of the respect for the potent fluid that plays a very significant role in Pohnpeian culture.
@@PKPedrusMNB wow! thank you i didn't know that
