Does it have a built-in SWR I thought I read somewhere that it did but I didn't see it when you were going through the options
I have a magnet antenna that picks up engine noise.
A have a magnet antenna that picks up the truck engine
i really like mine - excellent audio reports
Dad and I installed and properly repaired and tuned a thousand rigs, mobile and bade stations. Dad made everything he touched correctly modulated and band width. 73s KD7CKT
A simple thing to remember guys, the higher the frequency, the shorter the antenna and vice versa.
On my 2000 7.3 PSD using a President George FCC my truck dies when I key the mic. Yes I checked ALL wiring, ground straps, battery connection...etc. Tried different antennas, coaxes....but EVERY time I key the mic the engine dies. Next I tried a STAND ALONE battery. NOT connected to the vehicle in any way...and the truck dies when I key the mic. So its an RF problem. Is it the radio? Is it the truck? Any ideas as to WHAT sensor in the truck? ALL help is appreciated.
So I built a Dipole and i have a metal roof, I know there is a way to bond the antenna to the roof, i just dont know how
Also CB is longer range because it can sometimes bounce off the atmosphere
Have you considered the ionosphere bounce that CB can sometimes get?
Thanks for the video, it's very informative
I'd say get a mobile in the band of your choice (CB/GMRS) and a handheld in the other as a backup. (Or just be radio dork like me and have CB, 10M, 12M, GMRS, 2M and 70cM all in your truck...). 😉
Great video, can i use an base station antenna on my boat ? Would like a big antenna there. Not use what you mentioned about the length of the coax, if i need a specific length on it to tune right.
On a boat you should start with a VHF Marine Radio. Unless you are adding a CB /GMRS as a backup. Boats usually have 6/7ft long vhf antennas.
@@RyanS493 I have VHF antenne, and are planning to put my cb radio in my boat. Got an spare Anytone AT 6666
Right now I have 1.1 @ Channel 1 and 1.3 @ Channel 40. That's fine, right? Or are we to aim for zero? My antenna is bottomed out in the base.
Thanks I just getting into cb radio this has explained swr good.
If I got one of those for when I’m traveling, what’s the average range? Thanks in advance.
I agree 👍
I think it’s like 2 miles at most, I can hear a lot on it but I cannot reach out at all
We need a video on cb lingo.
Can I use this radio as a base station?
CB continue to be a worthwhile second line of emergency communications If you've ever come upon a wreck or had an accident and your cell is in a no or poor signal area, a CB or a better, a CB with "other bands" or a compact ham rig "modified" to have CB frequencies can really save lives.
did u have a stroke writing the title lol
Does it have auto squelch ?
Clear and concise information, much appreciated. I'll give you a call to help me with my setup.
How do you like it ?
Thanks it really help me out in understanding tuning the antenna
Just got one of these. I'm excited to try it in my log truck! I have a president richard that runs on cb channels, but something is wrong with it so I figured try this.
no one uses cb anymore waste of money and time
Wrong!
Totally wrong
Wrong
What would one recommend from an older Kia Sorento as an antenna mount? And antenna package to connect to my even older RCA Co-pilot or Uniden Pro 510xl. I think for space the Uniden would be better for my purposes. Do the door-frame mount fro antennas still exist?
So good
Interesting, but if I may ask, why the difference?
In your opinion which is the better antenna the Wilson 1000 or the striker sra10
“By the One in Whose Hand is my soul! The Hour will not be established until predators speak to people and until the tip of a man’s whip and the straps on his sandal (shoe) speak to him, and his thigh informs him of what occurred with his family after he left.” Tirmidhi 2181
you lost me at 4 watts. all cb,s i ever seen have been 5 watts and 12w pep for side band, some of the import radios out there will do 40 watts out of the box. also, the stainless 102inch whip is hard to beat in performance providing you can mount it on your vehicle and the most important thing is the S W R keep it as low as possible.
5 Watts input to the finals; 4 Watts Output to the antenna. That is the FCC "spec" for a "legal" radio. (12W SSB). I have a modified Galaxy that does 100W (94HP) but that isn't legal and Pat keeps his stuff legal. (Note - I use that radio on 10M primarily where that output is legal with my Extra class license but driving between NC & ME often I might be on CB with it.) Co-phased 4' Firestiks and I've DXed as far as Italy from NC so I'm happy with my rig.
I run a president mckinley ssb with a 48 inch fire stick. Works great.
Some fiberglass sticks are very noisy above a certain speed, had a Twin-Log 5 fiberglass antenna, had to replace it with a thin steel whip, well i gonna try a center loaded one.
Don't tell my heart, my achey breakey heart, I just don't think it'ed understand, bahhhhh
please do a video on Sirio car antennas and mounts. I like the 3/4th options . Wilson I dont think offers this.
I like the 102inch whip antenna with a spring. You can tie a donut on it and go fishing for cops, andcthey work great for talking too.
One thing that was not mentioned, is that there are vehicles made, where the body is an alloy and a magnet will not stick to it. I found this out about a yr ago. Rented a SUV and got s surprise when I tried to put my 10 meter antenna with a mag mount on the roof. I wound up finding a small space on the hood where the magnet would stick.
I ran into that as well; I usually travel with a Cobra 75 and a President Virginia antenna in my checked luggage. I had a Ford F-150 once as a rental and the aluminum body wasn't conducive to a mag mount. I stuck the antenna by the rear window (inside) and didn't transmit.
Wouldn't it be ok to put a mag mount antenna on top of the cab?
That is where I put my mag mount. On top of the cab, as long as there are no obstructions around it like the body of the box. Sometimes the box is higher than the top of the cab. Then you will probably want to go with mirror mounts.
I have CB myself, but I'm starting to convert to GMRS just to have another option. I'm getting very little traffic in the Bay Area / Santa Clara County in regards to feed on my CB transmissions. It's sort of sad, because of course BEFORE the birth of Cell's, we had lots of traffic because not everyone had the money to buy a cellphone that was portable back in the 90s, and not everyone wanted to stop at a payphone (pacbell).
Where you put the Antenna on your car makes a difference he doesn't explain that
you don't have any idea !!!
Always appreciate these videos. I’m learning how to install and tune correctly. 👍
Setting what, the swr? That's a easy one.
If the presenter know what he's talking about. This guy is an imposter.
Is this Radio tactial? 🤔
I have the old and love it. When I can I’ll buy the new one.
You won’t get out well and some of your signal will be reflected back into the antenna due to the roof a vehicle, it’s best to have a rooftop antenna for mobile use
When you have the 12v set up & you turn your key on those it automatically come on Or you need to manually turn on & off ?
Isn't that a SO-239 antenna stud?
I might have to snip a bit off my antenna not sure.
Mine is great on low channels but high on 40, no matter how I correct the height on antenna
