M3A3 Grant Tank, Getting the tracks on
M3A3 Grant Tank, Getting the tracks on.
Wow what a week, it's been like working on the sun with the temperature this week, along with the gas axe and every stuck nut and bolt. We know we will have to take all the wheel stations off and repair or replace some of them, we did some crazy bodge jobs just to get the tracks on and ready for the Capel Military Show but we got the job done just in time for the low loader to pick her up in the morning, well done to my crew.

Mick, are you going to completely rebuild the M3, or is someone going to buy it and take care of the rebuild? Either way, it's looking great with tracks on it again.
We will keep it, I would like to build a M31 TVR out of it to go with our Sherman's
Meanwhile, the Russian tanks that were taken out of the swamp: We are ready to fight again!! After clearing the Тank inside of the swamp mud, you can sit down and press the brake to direct the Tank to the trailer. I saw it on the video. Which was amazing 😲
That Russian tanks you watched had not been worked all its life on an Australian farm, I have worked on a lot of Russian tanks, they are crap, sharp edges, bad castings, burn more oil than fuel when you can get them running..
Its a pretty manky old tank, but now it looks more like a tank!😅 Well done I say, more farm scrap sort of saved!👍🇦🇺 Just one question, how can you guys still have all your fingers!😂🤣
It will look even more like a tank when we finished it, as for the fingers it's not our first tank so we know when not to stick them in them holes lol
How long do you estimate it will take to restore?
How long is a bit of string? Not sure, all depends on what parts we can find and how far we take it, i might be a runner or it might be a static, we have found a transmission and the twin engines, they will be on there way to us soon.
Bet them beers never tasted so good if it eas Wednesday or Thursday you were doing them tracks, it was the same for me as I was dismantling a combine harvester for packing into a container for export.
Yes it was all last week, bloody hot work, that beer tasted good lol
🙂🤟✌️💪👍👌👏😎🇹🇭
🙏🙂🤟✌️💪👍👌👏😎🇹🇭
What a fantastic opportunity to restore a piece of this countries history. I bet sometimes it's infuriating and rewarding in equal measure. 👍
It really is!
Nice to see real mechanics no gloves goggles not frightened of a bit of muck keep er gannen
Don't like gloves, cant feel anything
See you in Capel
Are you going to weld up that torched cut before you go? It'd be a shame if a crack propagated from the cut.
It's already left on the low loader, it will be parked up and when it gets back it will be one of the jobs after we have taken that wheel station off.
Great effort you all earned a beer or two...😊😊
You got that right!
The Farmer clobbered the hell out of that machine! The return rollers seized and being scraped flat, that idler wheel, God knows what else it's been through. I love the sound of the engine on that telehandler or whatever you call it.
HA HA HA HA 😅
Капец, первый раз при просмотре видео меня укачало. Ребят, купите стабилизатор!!!
No way, we got tank parts to spend money on lol
@@514thmick hmmm, a compelling argument!
Greetings from Australia. That my friends ...was really bloody interesting!
Thanks
Omg that camera shake makes this unwatchable
Really? I've watched it twice..
Easy, don't watch, I promise it wont get any better lol
Great to see the restoration of these vehicles up to running status. So has some company started to reproduce the M3 Halftrack tracks ? Most of them seem to have new tracks fitted. For a long while they were running out of replacements and as rare as chickens teeth
Yes, you can buy new made track in the US from Military Track Supply
I had thought that was a crack in the hull until you pointed out it was a deliberate torch cut. There'll be a bit of welding to do as you reassemble the hull.
yes lots of welding for her to come
DD6V53 sound is ❤
you are the proud owners of a M3 convertible. keep up the good work
Thanks! 👍
The CDP tracks look great. Time for cold snacks.
Maybe I missed the explanation in a previous episode, but what exactly is this tank's eventual destination after the upcoming show? You've put a lot of time and sweat into about half of a tank while you've got at least one on the property that is a MUCH better resto candidate. Also, any idea how that idler wheel got crushed? It looks like the one you replaced it with was stouter, too.
The Matilda Mk.II belongs to my mate, we have some other parts for that, the transmission engines etc but not sure how far we will go with it. As for the Grant we plan to put a V8 Cummins in it and turn her into a M31 TRV in the end (to tow our Sherman's about) but its a few years work. I have no idea what happened to the idler wheel, probably damage from her days as a bull dozer on an Australian farm but the wheel we replaced it with is the same as the one we took off. We have a few other tanks and vehicles that take up a lot of our time so no real time scale or dates for anything, just needed them sorted for this Capel Military Show.
@@514thmick Many thanks for the reply. I hadn't considered the option of converting the cut-down M3 into a recovery vehicle.
Guys, I absolutely love your videos..and following you...but please try and work on your sound quality...really hard to hear everything. I don't mean to be rude...
Sorry it's the mic on the GoPro, I got no money to buy a new one, CZcams pay us about $2 a year, your lucky I remember to pull the GoPro out my pocked at turn it on, plus I will only be bleeping most of what Del says out anyway lol
killdozers lost cousin
lol
Beautiful!
Thank you and the tanks not too bad as well lol
The road wheels can be re-rubbered. New tiers are mad to use on fork trucks. Same size.
Yes we got a mate with a 150 ton press that has fitted a few on our Sherman's, not cheap, but we got to rip them wheel stations to bit at some point and will deal with the tyres then, if I can afford it.
Let the purists cry, if it means life is brought back into one of these machines that would otherwise be sitting looking sorry for itself then I'm all for it. At the end of the day, its not like it cant be corrected at some point in the future. Keep ball rolling.
Thanks, we do this on a shoe strig budget, it's this way or it don't happen, as you say somebody can spend loads of money on it after we have had our fun.... one day.
looking at pictures of other Grants , I don't think those are the right kind of tracks for it which may explain why your having trouble getting them on .
@@MOLE60 watch the video again with your glasses on and your listening ears
lol
@@514thmick Its shoe string budgets and passion that have saved many many machines from the cutting torch, and more often than not these machines have gone on to be enjoyed and be shown to the public rather than being shoved behind a barrier never to see the light of day. Miss the days of the red ball express, and seeing the displays at W&P. Ill get involved again one day :)
There is that 6V53 again! After my comment on a previous video about not hearing one run in decades, I had the privilege of getting a 6V53T in a fire truck going. Then later that afternoon visiting a friend with an M548 and getting to hear it run. You fellows are having way too much fun, I would like to see a short video of your Guiberson! I am amazed by the amount of spare parts you have.
The Guiberson is not here yet but we will post it up when it turns up, your right we are having fun but its hard work.
Nice we were in the gmc cckw right at the back at abt 2 mins mark

Ahhh the whole tank is made of pots , pans and Park railings .. just lasting long enough to do the job it's incredible that this still exists 😊 Great work chaps .. I would love to be able to get involved with something like this 👍👍👍

As an American it does my heart good to see so many showed up in support of this. I only wish my Grandfather were still alive to see it. He initially served in the 106th Calvary Regiment as a M8 Greyhound driver.
Thank you and thank you to your Grandfather for his service.
Mick, what an amazing drive through the country, especially the one lane roads. Were those very narrow roads closed to public use that day? I'd have loved to have been in one of the fields on the one lane road with a good quality video camera; it would look like it was WW-II, and not 2024. Thanks for sharing!!! Cheers from the USA!!!!!!!!!
Road were not closed but we had the outriders blocking traffic on the road ahead, glad you liked it

AWESOME!! I love this video! The procession & collection of vehicles brought out the armour & history geek in me 😂 You are located in the UK? Love your channel sir, glad I found it and subscribed.
Glad you enjoyed it!, yes we are in the UK
That is a GOOD mic. Just ONE Sherman (or derivative thereof) will blow your eardrums at that range.
Just the one on the GoPro
Scrap.
Yep, most people think that, mainly the dumb ones lol
You guys are doing that all wrong, its an aussie artifact, more beer and a lot more swearing and it will be much easier!😅

Should put diesel in a pump sprayer and soaked the whole track
Well we never did and the track moves now

Started to dig out my old US living history gear and collection out of the loft the other day, ''I wonder what happened to Mick and his lot'' crossed my mind and here you are, popping up in my feed. The tinge of rust and heavy green lumps of war machinery never leaves us. Keep going, ill be watching for more updates :D
Honestly I do not how you can get the motivation to tackle that
easy, you just need vision and time
May i write you to email? I dug up several items from Matilda and i need your help for ID. Thank you 🙏
How can I help you? I dont think CZcams lets you write email address on here? try it?

Motion sickness : please stabilize your camera :)
It was not to bad. Working on the M3 is the main thing. 2nd comes the camera work.
My son gave me his old GoPro and said "Dad people would want to see this stuff", I have trouble using it and a hammer at the same time, and if I have to stop doing one of them things it will be the filming, so maybe if you can't handle the motion you should not watch as I promises it wont get any better ;-)
