  • The view from our Halftrack on the Armour & Embarkation 2024 event.
100 WW2 Vehicle convoy for 60 miles over 3 days.
The Armour & Embarkation “Basecamp” is the village of Broadmayne in Dorset, the historic D-Day campsite Marshalling Area D5 (MA D5). From November 1943 D5 was home to elements of the 18th Infantry Regiment, US 1st Infantry Division and prior to D-Day these units were joined by elements of the 2nd Ranger Battalion and the 116 Infantry Regiment, US 29th Infantry Division. Camp D5 was one of many marshalling areas on the South Coast in preparation for OPERATION NEPTUNE, the Naval Invasion of the Normandy beaches on D-Day and part of the wider OPERATION OVERLORD, the battle for Normandy.

As an American it does my heart good to see so many showed up in support of this. I only wish my Grandfather were still alive to see it. He initially served in the 106th Calvary Regiment as a M8 Greyhound driver.

Mick, what an amazing drive through the country, especially the one lane roads. Were those very narrow roads closed to public use that day? I'd have loved to have been in one of the fields on the one lane road with a good quality video camera; it would look like it was WW-II, and not 2024. Thanks for sharing!!! Cheers from the USA!!!!!!!!!

Great to see the restoration of these vehicles up to running status. So has some company started to reproduce the M3 Halftrack tracks ? Most of them seem to have new tracks fitted. For a long while they were running out of replacements and as rare as chickens teeth

That is a GOOD mic. Just ONE Sherman (or derivative thereof) will blow your eardrums at that range.
