Widowmaker - Old Grey Whistle Test
This Old Grey Whistle Test, which was aired on the 24th of February 1976, was our (Widowmaker’s) first-ever gig. The live direct-telecast went out to millions of people around the UK. We were scared shitless, but it went well. Roger Daltry watched the show and we were invited to open for The Who on their UK shows for ‘The Who Put the Boot In’ tour, which was a real honour and a pleasure for us!

Oh wow, it's got live vocals! Demonstrates the absolute majesty of Dio's vocals that he could pull it off on his own without needing effects or overdubed vocal tracks to support it. I wish Ritchie Blackmore did a 4th album with Dio because everything Rainbow did after Long Live Rock and Roll sounds dated bordering on pop-rock while we're still talking about the first 3 Dio albums in 2024 and beyond because the music was so ahead it's time, the cognitive dissonance of that is just so insane. I'm glad to see Dio-era Rainbow finally getting the attention it deserves because it really was like a parallel evolution on the heavy metal family tree separate from the more usual Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin axis of sound.

This was one of the first albums I ever listened to and was instantly hooked,Ritchies amazing guitarwork,cozy's brilliant drumming and Ronnie Dio's fantastic voice. Simply a masterpiece.

Saw them supporting Nazareth 1976 - Close Enough for Rock and Roll tour, Birmingham Odeon - My first ever gig. I had no clue who they were back then. Since bought the remastered Widowmaker CD when it was re-issued.
