Rainbow in their prime was an elemental force. Holy shit.
fuck. yes.
Totally agree. Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow, Rainbow Rising, and Long Live Rock and Roll are three of my all time favorite albums. The chemistry was there, the talent was there..and they exploded.
You have no idea by watching on CZcams. In the flesh, it was the most exciting experience, next to a bomb going off. I saw Rainbow 10 Times in concert, beginning with their first tour in 1976. I remember the first time I saw Ritchie, the lights went out, the band started playing, and Ritchie went over to the side of the stage and held his guitar up sideways in front of a stack of speakers and let loose with a howling string of feedback, and then proceeded to light the stage on fire for two hours straight. I’ve never seen a guitarist play so many notes in two hours, and I’ve seen them all.
repetitivemotion yes mate, when he put the effort in he was untouchable.
Unbelievable.
What a brilliant band, they shone brightly and still do in the memories of the fans.
One of the great bands of the seventies that defined all that is hard rock love you Ronnie James Dio
Ronnie is so missed! This was the best line up in Rainbow! When Dio left the band it was never more!
bow down to Dio and Blackmore! but also be in awe of Cozy Powell on drums!
Cozy = Badassery.
Don't overlook the most unsung hero in music, Mr. Bob Daisley !
Agree. His drumming where extreme thight and powerful.
David Stone is doing his job excellent too!
The entire band was so fucking tight.
This performance with Cozy, Richie, and Dio is amazing, so much talent on this stage !
Cozy Powell hit the drums with jazz like precision with the force of Chuck Norris !
His intro on stargazer is epic !
A voice like no other... pleasure to have known you, Ronnie.
Probably the greatest rock line up of all time. Those Rainbow albums still hold up today.
Some lineups you just cannot duplicate..this is one!!
Again another lineup where Cozy commands the Show...everyone laboring away to keep up with the master. RIP COZY forever
Metal isn't the same without him ,miss you Ronnie
Thanks for posting this Bob. Great sound and picture. Just don't get great music like this these days. Sad that Cozy and Ronnie aren't with us now. God bless all of you.
Ronnie James Dio, the greatest musician I've ever seen, and I've seen plenty. For me, Dio was, and still is, the metal master. Still missing him. Always will miss him. Seeing him live, on several occasions, makes me feel better about missing Hendrix, and Zeppelin, and The Doors. But Dio, and Iron Maiden, and Black Sabbath, and others I've seen. The greats of my day. See your favorites while you can. Time goes by fast.
Up The Irons!
This is absolutely unbelievable! I'm just guessing that Iron Maiden listened to this third album of Rainbow's quite a lot. A lot. Especially with Bruce.
And that was also the first true Power metal song. A whole genre was born from it.
Happy birthday Cozy!! We miss you brother!
Just to think we are watching a man who died five-six years ago just so young and lively. Videos are awesome.
Richie, cozy, Bob, Ronnie, et al- you guys changed my life with your dedication and intensity. Thanks
Cozy Powell e Bob Daisley responsible for this spectacular presentation
Deff. My ultimate favorite by the original Rainbow YESSSSSSSSSS
my favorite version of this song right there, this concert one
What a great voice, fabulous!!!
Probably get a load of abuse about this, but I always felt Rainbow Rising is one of the great Rock albums of all time, and that Rainbow Rising line-up produced better live performances than even Ritchie achieved with Deep Purple. I always felt he enjoyed Rainbow more than Purple, maybe I'm wrong?
Opinions are neither right nor wrong. They are simply different.
You’re not wrong.
You are so right
100%, don't doubt yourself. Even if the world disagrees with you, know you are right. Given the direction Blackmore went in he didn't realise how significant Tony Carey's influence could have become. Rainbow could have been HUGE - hey ho.
@@richardcostello7709
Ritchie must've lost his mind when he let Ronnie go. HUGE mistake!
Honestly as far as I'm concerned, LLR&R crushes Rising. Production was better and you had Kill The King, Babylon, and Rainbow Eyes as the big three. Only thing on Rising that compares is Stargazer.
and COZY POWELL!
The Master, the Man In Black, the God of the guitars....
+kneelandpray2 Yes indeed! He may be moody and mean but man can he play one of the best guitarists ever ever ever! Bob Daisley too, one of the best bassists in Rock/Heavy Metal
Rainbow was great and Blackmore is a great guitarist but not the God of guitars -Jimmy Page surpasses him -----Like Zakk Wylde said in a interview -- 3 main known riffs that everyone plays
Deep Purple >>>>>>>Smoke on the Water by Blackmore
Led Zeppelin >>>>>>>>>> Whole Lotta Love by Page
Black Sabbath >>>>>>> Paranoid by Iommi !!!!!!
Blackmore is far better than Page. Page never play like this in his entire career, check how Blackmore play guitar in the song called Wring That Neck in 1969 (Bilzen Jazz Festival) and then show me a superior guitar interpretation of Page!!!

Cozy rockin' that double kick!
i was gonna write 'oh the bass is freaking great' and i realized this is bob daisley's channel. i feel good right now hehe
Incredible!!! That was the best sound and video quality I've seen of any Rainbow performances around that time. This line-up, particularly Ritchie, Ronnie and Cozy could have been another Led Zeppelin.
the great Dio keep singing in the heaven,,or hell?,,,,,the best vocalist of metal of all times!!!!
Absolutely amazing. Love this concert. Cheers Bob
Happy Birthday Richie!!!
what a powerful song always.. its wonderful the moment at 2.49 when Ritchie and Bob cross their gazes and smiling, great performance
I don't think it's what your think. Bob was getting too close to getting in front of Ritchie when Ritchie was starting his guitar solo. It was more like a warning. lol.
Best live ever: Ritchie was just released from 3 days spent in Austrian jails before coming on stage for this incredible Rockpallast show !
Got the first Japanese edition of this DVD, including the fake tortoise pick that was included in this pack (see my avatar...-:) A very collectible item nowadays !
Correct. David Stone tells the story that they started an hour late waiting for Ritchie to get bounced from Jail and when he showed up the intro of this was a train wreck because nobody had had any sleep. But when you've got Cozy driving the bus and Ronnie delivering like he always does, you're 3/4 of the way there already.
goosebumps here too
Awesome classic Rainbow! Thanks for posting, Bob!
Ritchie always got so emotional in concert. He was so much fun to watch and listen to. I’ve seen him at least 10 times in concert
unforgettable!
Thanks Bob this is a great cut.
Dude, Daz that's a fab clip man. =)) Great to see this posted. :) Long Live Rock and Roll!
Excellent musicianship!!
how does this not have over a million views!!! Awesome!
For my money, the best ever song about the game of Chess.
travisrlel2 lol awesome
40 years later and I never thought of it that way :)
High school day's , still love it , 🎸🍻😎
The BEST of the BEST!!!
Amazing!
Best version of Rainbow! Best band !
The king had gone back to his throne in the heaven. Hail the KING!
R.I.P Ronnie James Dio and Cozy Powell
This is fuckin powerfull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i love you DIO
So great!!
Pure talent!
legendary performance!!
One of the best from Rainbow
great stuff !
REST IN PEACE, TO THE TRUE HERO OF METAL.
Blackmore loved JLT, great vocalist. He never got on with Bonnet, my favourite........How the hell did Blackmore get R J Dio??? What a musical coup, have to say, the voice of Rainbow. Dio is the man on the silver mountain RIP x
The King lives!
Ritchie was shredding his axe long before it became known as such in the eightes. Truly majestic.
brilliant !!!!
And Cozy Powell!
Dio, Blackmore, Powell, Daisley & Stone....the best Rainbow lineup, definatly. \m/
David Stone incredible keyboards cheer for Raimbow guys
...And the seed of Power Metal was planted.... 👍🍻😁🤘
2:29 - Cozy!
The greatest band in this f*****g WOOOOOOOOORLD!!!!!! Ritchie rulez.....
And on that day, Power Metal was born...
Ritchie's EGO went one step too far by dismissing Dio. Dio went massive and Ritchie shrank
theodor cole not reality. Both did well.
not true at all, ritchie's reunions with deep purple in 84 was massive, #2 only to springsteen at his commercial peak. nothing dio ever did came close to this amount of success. though the dio albums are better, rainbow is just as well known for what came after only to a different crowd.
Lance Kilcoyne
In the wake of his sacking Dio did better, and that's what I meant.
Asked about DP reunion, Coverdale said he wasn't ready to live in the past. Perfect Strangers'84 was Purple nostalgia. Heaven & Hell'80 was raw bona fide Sabbath.
Ritchie didn't do bad at all. Nothing wrong with Blackmore's Night around the time I saw them in 1999. Yesterday he turned 72. Let's remember the strokes of genius and forget the flops
fair enough, i'm a huge fan of coverdale and dio and now knowing where you're coming from that's cool.
Both continued doing great after they parted ways. Ronnie got upset at Ritchie because Circus mag released Ritchie only on the cover of one of their issues. Apparently it wasn't Ritchie's idea but they had a spat over it nonetheless. Plus Ritchie wanted to go "Foreigner" and Ronnie wanted to keep doing medieval metal.
Classic rock gem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ELLI NATHALIE KORRE, *Speed/Power Metal*
Excelente!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Daisley FTW! Rainbow's best lineup.
COZYYYYYYYY!!
Дио просто супер, эго голос сделал все группы где он побывал моими любимыми
This was the definetive Rainbow-linuep.
Dio, Blackmore, Daisley, Powell and Stone. I love all Rainbow, with the exception of the 1995 'Stranger In Us All' release.
More Cozy!
Great
SUPER!
Blackmore and Dio - FUCK YEAH!!!!
Brutal !!!
amazing band Dio Blackmore Powell
They were so big time.I was too young to go, but it's what people were talking about.
yes
Dio is a diamond in the crown of heavy metal
I was fortunate enuff to catch this tour in San Antonio, TX at the old Municipal Auditorium - it was my very first concert and this band ROCKED (if I remember correctly, Blue Oyster Cult and British Lions also played that night) ... Gates of Babylon was the best performance of the show, it sounded majestic ... there aren't too many bands now a days who can even come close to the great ROCK music that was coming out in mid-to-late '70s and '80s (Iron Maiden and Judas Priest are still producing some good music to this day though)
awesome emsamble dio powell richie
Ronnie James Dio vocals, Tony Carry keyboards, Jimmy Bain Bass, Cozy Powell Drums and Richie Blackmore guitar!!!
Epico
I think that every Heavy Metal band now would bust their balls to cover this one.
Ritchie was a fool to move on without Ronnie. Who cares what Ronnie sings about! Just write the bludgeoning riffs and let Ronnie go off on kings and queens and guillotines - that's fine. Whatever you like Mr. Dio. Stupendous. I saw this tour in Burbank. It was jaw dropping.
I miss them, Dio, Powell and Blackmore´s rock days! =,(
tis so loveli
tis so loveli
1111
Blackmore's solo is insane!
PHENOMS-Together they couldve ruled the WORLD
+InStride Stable They definitely could have, but the constant turnover of musicians hurt them. And, choosing to go in different musical directions did too. Ronnie didn't want to sing love songs. But damn, they kicked ass!
+InStride Stable they did
THERE IS NOTHING TODAY THAT EVEN COMES CLOSE TO THIS.
2 år sedan rockens absolut bästa röst tystnade...
Rock Gods is an understatement

such a blistering performance. When you're hot, you're hot!
fly like the windoooww :P
We miss you Ronnie.
