Springfield Prodigy & Hex Dragonfly first thoughts and customer service experience!!
Wanted to make a quick video after a trip to the range with the New Springfield Prodigy. Specifically the 4.25" Commander version. Sorry for the camera angle. Will fix for part 2.
I also go aver my thoughts on the Hex Dragonfly, as well as my customer service experience. Spoiler alert....One of these isn't great.

WATCH THIS before using a wheel bearing grease tool! (HONDA PIONEER 1000)

In this video, we go through a step by step procedure for greasing the wheel bearings using a special tool that saves time and money. The tool in the video is used on a Honda Pioneer 1000, however, this SAME procedure and tool can be used on many off-road vehicles and machines. We are able to grease the wheel bearings without removing the knuckle assembly, and keeping vehicle alignment intact. ...

If you're going to post this video, and tell people how to use the relearn feature... you should be able to help them fix the issue I now have, along with several others; AT MT now, still on. Won't go out. YES... warmed up So how the hell do ya get the AT MT to go back off??? They weren't ON when I started this reset/relearn procedure. That you said was good to help with possible clutch issues of slipping, new clutches, ecu, etc. However, now you don't respond to those with the issue YOU created. LAME
Sorry this didn’t work for you, JohnnyAirtime! A quick scroll through the comments will show this has worked for a LOT of people. I am not a Honda technician, I have simply put into easy instructions a convoluted process in the Pioneer service manual. I quick internet search shows that if the AT/MT light won’t go out, it can be a voltage issue, cold engine/oil, or a smoked clutch pack. Good Luck.
I did more research and found the issue; ---------------------------------- copied and pasted from a FB group ---------------------------------- This video he didn’t do the sequence properly that is why it didn’t do a relearn. (speaking of this video of yours) You don’t have to wait for seatbelt light to go off. If your sequence isn’t done in order, in a timely manner or not warm enough it won’t go through. Pioneer and talon clutch relearn. ◦ Make sure engine is fully warmed up to normal operating temperature (2 bars) or till you hear the fan run. ◦ Key on engine off ◦ Press the accelerator pedal to the floor 3 times and hold it to the floor on third time. ◦ While holding accelerator down move the shifter from P to L to P to L to P ( making sure to see P,L on dash every time) ◦ Let off the accelerator throttle the display should show a “-“. ◦ Crank up the engine and let Idle till the dash goes blank “-“ to “ “. ( this could take a few minutes) ◦ Turn key off clutch relearn is successful.
Glad you got it worked out! Next time, maybe start with the Facebook group instead of lashing out and calling someone that is trying to help the Pioneer community “LAME”. Move on, Troll.
too funny.... I'm now a troll, for not giving an incorrect re-learn process a thumbs up and calling it LAME that you're not helping those who have the SAME issue I did from your incorrect process. I hope others learn the correct way, and they can eliminate the AT MT lights from my comment (copy and paste method/process). I don't need to be "liked" and "subscribed" to know my worth. Maybe delete the video, and do a correct version of the process?! Good luck.
Hello, Are you interested in testing our products? We would like to invite you to test the UTV Rear Window for your Honda Pioneer 1000(if your car year is 2016+
Extractor tension first, trigger job, check to see hoev far brass is being ejected, adjust recoil spring to throw brass 3 ft.
Wish that was it :/. Sent it back to Springfield and they had a laundry list of items that needed fixed including ream and polish the chamber. Also got a new disconnector and all springs replaced. I have since Sarah coded. It had the frame stippled and shot states with it this year. I need to do an update video and will soon.
Wheres the update video???
Those red dots are junk. Trijicon or nothing. Buy once, cry once.
Update?
Soon! Going to be putting together a new video. Will be shooting it at USPSA state championship
Anyone know if this easy little modification would void the factory warranty?
Would this work on newer honda rubicon atv?
I have multiple 1911’s and I can say for sure 9mm or .45 they do hang up a little bit but I haven’t seen one that bad! I have the Springfield mil spec 1911 and it wouldn’t cycle at first but after a few hundred rounds it runs flawless 8rd mags or 10rd mags!
Great video just ordered that tool for myself
Buy a full size grease gun,and use a very good grease,
you just have to rack it like 1000 times and wipe out the cerakote from the back and mines run pefect also make sure its not the mags staccato ones run better hope its runnin good now stick with it
Excellent explanation
Thank you! just trying to help others in the same boat!
Nice video bub.
yes grease comes out the front , I remove snap ring so I can see when it evenly starts to come out , if not the snap ring blocks the pressure and it all comes out the gap in snap ring , as soon as I see it coming out I stop , I think its bad to have it totally full and will build heat and may even make yer balls slide instead of roll in the bearing , and yes rotate tool 90 degrees after each 4-5 pumps
Had to leave a comment and say THANK YOU!! This fixed my problem. Phew.
Great news!!!!
I was very disappointed with my hex dragonfly that I bought for my Springfield DS 1911 Prodigy. I should’ve waited until the plates were available for the Leopold or the Holosun, but I was anxious to get a red dot when it first came out. The refresh rate is very annoying, as you can notice this light flicker. Also, the dot itself is supposed to be 3.5 MOA, but it looks smaller than my 2 MOA Holosun. Also, very disappointed in the brightness. On a normal sunny day, at the maximum brightness, you can hardly even pick the dot up. Definitely was expecting something better.
the fact that the ONLY optic plate available was the one for the dragonfly for the first 6 months seems to be planned if you ask me. Mine promptly went back to Springfield. you couldn't pay me to run it.
Man I feel you. I bid on a new DS prodigy with the hex dragon fly for $1510 on gun broker and regret not just buying the gun by itself for $1250 and spending the +$250 on a different optic. I just got my HQL 3 months ago so I was really new to this but aside from not liking the optic, the gun runs great after you break it in.
Also the gun coating is gumming the cycling up.
Thanks for sharing.... I was on the fence about picking one up..... I’ll probably pull the trigger next month.... pun intended. Great video. Just sub’d.
Thanks! Been very busy, will take it to a match or two, get some footage and update you guys
@@aeroimagingsolutions8716 looking forwards to it
Idk. Mine ran flawlessly uncleaned with factory shipping oil. I ran 250rnd outta the box and have yet too have a stoppage.
Upgrade your mag internals then follow STI's mag tuning guide. It will cure 99% of your failure to feed issues. Personally I would purchase and run Infiniti or STI mags exclusively.
The atlas mags are supposed to work better from what I've seen in other videos. They adjusted them recently I guess and they work really well. Not personal experience. Just videos I have seen.
Had same issues with my Prodigy 4.25". I didn't even try to mess with it and sent it back to Springfield. The disconnector was dragging and at one time the slide paused at the rear coming back into battery and failure to feed almost every time after that happened. I agree that the pistol when it did shoot, first three magazines went through with no problem, it shot really good with a great feel. Hopefully they will fix it and send it back within a month.
The dragonfly is a heaping pile of dog shit compared to what you can get out of a holosun in same price range
good review, BUT.... please.. NO MORE UNBOXING!! they make me crazy!
The stuff on the glass is from the check on the barrel
Love mine. 600 rounds NO probs at all.
Anything back from Springfield??
i tried it multiple times and still shows the AT/MT and the gear -- Flashing,, slow for the 1st minute and them goes faster
Mine too what did you end up doing?
Brother you purchased a beautiful piece of trash. I almost purchased one of these. 1400+ and doesn’t work. I saved a little more and purchased a staccato c2. 1999.00 Its a rolex as far as pistol quality goes. If you want to see how the prodigy is doing check the used gun market. People cant dump these quick enough. Hopefully they will do what they should of at the factory and put competent human hands on it and qc the damn thing
You need to improve your video technique. The gun is half out of the frame throughout the duration of the video.
You are completely right! I apologized in my notes of the vid. I took all in one shot just to get my thoughts out. Sorry bud!
Yea the witness hole was a crappy idea good thing there’s a few gunsmiths offering fixes for the barrel
Do they seal it up?
Save yourself some money and just use the iron sights. Never rely on electronics in time of need.
Fudd comment, Jimmy. Optics are life.
Magazine's seem to be a common denominator on the problems with the prodigy. Staccato magazine's seem to run better from what I've seen.
Get a shadow 2 and never look back !!
Oh I’ve got one. And she’s jealous.
i have a 2017 1000, replaced both dct clutch assemblies now using the procedure to reset dct. im on day 3 of trying to complete this clutch initialization procedure. it is constantly unsuccessful. removed alll connectors at clutch cleaned etc, tried new battery. swapped ecu off a different unit, all no changes. need help
Kenton, please make sure the buggy is COMPLETELY warmed up before starting the procedure. This seems to be the most common issue with getting to work
@@aeroimagingsolutions8716 yes the fan turns on and goes off - deffinatly warm. the first day i tried for a couple hours and it finally worked. but didnt fix my shifting problem. so i tried to relearn again after i cleaned things up, still trying to get it. honda tech line is no use.
@@kentonprather4832 I would pull the positive on the battery, let completely reset then try again. Took me a few times to get it also

Hey Justin, sorry to hear about the issues. I’ve owned several 1911s including a Springfield Mil Spec but all in 45 acp. They all needed around 500-600 rounds break in until they fed without issues. Have around 2000 rounds through my Springfield now and have not had an issue in ages. That said your gun may be problematic regardless of break-in and I’ve never owned a 1911 in 9mm
My experience is the main issue on the failure to feed is with the ceracoat on the guide rails. The slide tolerance it really tight (which is good) but as the gun cycles, the ceracoat in the guide rails being to wear off. Between the oil, the powder residue and the ceracoat wear, it causes a bit of a goop that bog's it down, you can feel it. Once that ceracoat wears down, mine has been golden. The more you shoot it the better it get's.
O I forgot good luck 👍🏻
Polish the disconnect and rails it'll run I have the 4.25 comander size I had a terrible range day 1st trip then I polished up everything next range trip my wife had to come get me I shot about a thousand rounds that day no failures and every trip since no failures to feed or extract. Gun runs 👍🏻
this is great advice!!!!
Maybe but for $1600 I need it to run without me playing amateur gunsmith
@O’Ceaser it should. But after watching probably 100 prodigy videos this happens a lot. Some polishing of the disconnect and feedramp I think is a better solution than to pay an extra grand for a stacatto
@@RickheadWashington that’s fair bc it will be my first one so before I drop $2500 it would be nice to be familiar with the 2011. I just feel for $1600 it needs to cycle reliably
@O’Ceaser it should. And it probably will with some rounds down range. It's a finicky platform. Very low tolerances. But just a very small amount of polishing can make it damn close to a $2500 gun. You're right tho. $1600 is a steep price tag for a gun with failures to feed. After all the people's problems with the gun it honestly should be down around $1k - $1200. At least it has its warrantee
Take 1500 grit to disconnect get that smooth then it'll run I know I've got 1000 rounds not one failure to feed
THIS WORKED!!!!! part 2 video soon
@@aeroimagingsolutions8716 did you ever do the part 2 video?? I’m on the fence about purchasing… maybe you could help me out!
@@xeqshunner so sorry for the delay!! I actually got it back, and it feels like a totally different gun. No more disconnector drag, and the warranty work notes say that they "Reamed and Polished" the chamber. I have yet to take it back out for a shoot, as I was waiting for my optic plate to come in (They dropped the ball there), before I post another video. I will shoot it in a couple USPSA matches before I do, and get some footage of ejection patterns, etc.
I polished the disconnector, underside of the slide where it contacts, feed ramp, inside top of chamber, slide and frame rails. Added Wilson Combat light grease. Shot 124 gr, fmj and jhp +P. No issues with feeding or cycling. Factory spring weight is 12# spring. These are easy fixes to do first. If you send off, they will do the same with a week plus of wait. Will get a 13# for standard load and 15# for +P loads. Good luck.
Sorry can you elaborate about the spring weights?
I sent mine off last week and should be getting it back sometime tomorrow. Hopefully it runs because I was really enjoying the 4.25.
Oh wow that’s pretty fast. There’s part of me that wants to keep it a mess around with it but there’s also part of me that says if I ever need future service on it I should follow this route.
I see great comments but no answer. Tried this on my 2016 1000-5. My my/at and P stayed on. I had a battery fail we jumped it and made it home it drove in a shake mode. Replace batt and the 50 amp main was blown replaced but machine won’t engage rear end. Any idea’s would help. Thanks
Are you letting. The machine COMPLETELY warm up before starting procedure?
I wonder if this will work for a pioneer 700 without a Manuel shift setting it's only auto
Pioneer 700 is torque converter like a car. No clutch that engages like the 1000.
Thanks!!

Price is absurd.
It's stainless steel....SMFH..Let the adults buy the good stuff and the kids cry at the candy counter.
Just an fyi, you can actually over-grease bearings. I wouldn’t recommend going until grease pushes out the backside.
Agree and over grease risks blowing out seal
I cant get the mt at to go off and tried several times now
Same problem did you resolve the problem
gents, make sure the buggy is COMPLETELY warmed up before starting this process. otherwise it won’t take
