This is a good illustration of what the term “cover” REALLY means. It absolutely does NOT mean merely recording a song that you didn’t write yourself.
I remember this particular scene from some decades ago (before CZcams, before the Internet, before the popularity of microcomputers). I’ve remembered it all this time because I thought the bit about Brubeck being dissonant was hilarious.
Anybody who knew Elvis, knew he hated these cheesey roles he was forced by contract to accept. JAILHOUSE ROCK is the only quality picture he enjoyed making and DIRECTING. This man from the deep south was truly amazing, given his very poor background and level of education.

It was so awesome to listen to Martin talk about Elvis with such love and respect. He's so right about all he said man. Our Elvis got tragically boxed. It would have been brilliant to see him grow and see how he would've changed through time, and all the wonderful things he would've done. Elvis was incredibly creative despite the fact he was not a songwriter. He still held so much innovation and creativity in him. ❤❤❤
