    Excellent, as a Pacific Northwest boater myself with my partner, going forward a trawler is a good idea, obviously grand Banks is the grand choice, having said that what is your budget? Point to note if you are bringing a vessel down from Canada, the engine must have a EPA rated sticker, if it’s UL rated that’s rated for Europe or Canada

    In our early 60’s we are keeping our sailboat for a few years while we can still actively sail. At some point I see us moving to a trawler so we can keep boating. We just returned from the southern Gulf islands, and I can’t really see us venturing to much further north in our sailboat. So I suspect that will wait until we hit trawler land.

    I’d like to see this done with a Mini 4 with the “sensors off”, and also with some movement to the boat. I had a hard time landing my drone on a moving boat in Fiji while chasing dolphins. I had a little stick applied to match the movement of the boat while landing and it would not come down those last couple of feet, for several minutes anyway. Sport mode was irrelevant. Then it finally did land after several tense minutes. I didn’t have any trouble when the boat was stationary.

    @stst8301 Před měsícem

    Perfect video my friend! I tried to take off from a boat with also a mini 2 and this weird think happened.... Take off was OK but when the drone was like 20 meters high it started descending on it's own I was keep pushing throttle up to avoid landing into the sea and hopefully managed to hand catch it. Battery was 95% Checked again at the shore and everything was working perfect... Since then haven't tried again to take off from a boat.

    I want to do this off my kayak. I have the mini 4 pro. Are you saying to turn off the avoidance? It won't hand land with it on. I was afraid to turn it off. Also, the reviews of the 'pontoons' on the drone weren't great.

    • @CruisingMaya
      @CruisingMaya Před měsícem

      @gradyrm237 yes turn off obstacle avoidance. I wouldn't use those floats to land on the water, but they make it a lot easier to snag it out of the air.

    Hey, good luck w/ your channel, and 'hello' from Juneau. Loved your recommendations on using a Portland Pudgy dinghy. I have friends who own one and they love it. Also, I piloted a Katy Krogen 42 from Juneau to Valdez 2 years ago for a new owner who'd never done coastal boating before and loved it. It had a great motion thru the water and was just big enough to be very comfortable! Xtra Tuffs rule but I don't like trying to get them on/off. I'm tall with big feet so it's difficult. For deck shoes, if it's raining, I use those Xtra Tuff shortie shoes. I also have off shore sailing rain gear which works well. My Catalina 27 also has a cockpit that's halfway enclosed, so I can sit under it with the diesel heater going and steer the tiller using my remotely controlled tiller pilot. Works like a charm! I've done the inside passage a couple of times, delivering boats so there are a lot of places I've been past but never entered. Misty Fjords looks spectacular. Am curious to see if you guys made it to Baranof Warm Springs. Anyway, thanks for the good content. SE Alaska is a hot spot destination now for boaters coming up from the Seattle area but for those of us who've lived here for decades, it's our own backyard!

    The outside passage was the scariest thing to get mentally prepared for after cruising the inside passage and puget sound for many calm years. I’ve been in small craft advisory gales in the straight of Juan de Fuca but There’s nothing quite like being tens of miles off shore. Amazing trips you guys have done and I’m excited to see what’s in store for you next after you sell Maya!

    I had an Alberg 37 ketch. A beautiful boat with really nice sailing characteristics on the Texas coast. It might have been a little stuffy at anchor on a summer night at anchor in a bay. But, I made devices to send that sea breeze below. My wife & i took some friends from the marina out for an overnight offshore sail. We left in the early morning hours. As we cleared the channel I pointed Paraja onto a loose/tight reach to to south, set the wind vane & marked pososition on the chart.& noted GPS position on the console & LORAN (Yeah. I still had one. Back-ups are a blessing.) Then I sent Roger below to make the women were okay, They were still sleeping. Once I knew she, the boat, was running good I went below & made breakfast, oatmeal with raisins, butter & brown sugar. Noted position on the chart, GPS, LORAN & dead reckoning. Took depth off the fish finder & noted wind speed & relative direction hull speed. We stopped in the afternoon. I hove her to, threw poly ropes over & we all took a swim in 200 fathoms of blue water. A tiny fresh water rinse & that was our bath for the day. Into the night we rolled southward. I reduced sail & set a timer. Wife joined me in the cockpit & Roger. & Gail went to the fore deck. I set the timer & woke every 30 minutes. A look around. Every hour I made notes in the log & our position on the chart. At around 4am Roger & Gail came aft. Gail went below & wife went down to too. [We had the pilot berth model.) At sunrise we turned her back onto a broad reach & I reset the windvane. We were headed home and the trades were freshening. I'd raised the main in early morning. But now she felt "preesed" & the vane was struggling. We reefed the main & rolled in some jib to balance the boat. At noon, in that broad reach we're getting close to home port. Roger & Gail are sitting on the "highside." He has his arm around her & they're both smiling. Darling is sitting in front of me with her legs slightly spread & I'm pretty sure she has "oh baby" panties on under those shorts. Roger & Gail have a Hunter 40 something. Roger says "She's so smooth. She always tells you what she's going to do, even when you're down below and can't see the wave coming she doesn't make a sharp movement. She just accepts the the wave & rides it like it part of her. I'm watch you on the helm. You're olding steady. Slight adjustments, but nothing drastic. Same with the vane earlier. The balance is easily found & the boat almost sail itself" That's a Carl Alberg design. He didn't bdesign "great" boats. But, he did design "good" boats with great capabilities.
