Elena Mukhina Gymnastics and Music

Elena Vyacheslavovna Mukhina (Russian: Елена Вячеславовна Мухина) (1 Jun 1960 - 22 Dec 2006) was a Soviet gymnast who won the all-around title at the 1978 World Championships in Strasbourg. She was widely considered as the next great gymnastics star until 1979, when she broke a leg and missed several competitions. Her coach rushed her recovery and pressured her to master a dangerous and difficult tumbling move (Thomas salto). She broke her neck two weeks before the opening of the 1980 Summer Olympics, leaving her permanently quadriplegic. She died at age of 46. (Source: Wikipedia)

She was about a year older than me. I’m now 63. It’s so awful what the Soviet system did to her. Such a needless accident. She died so young. God bless her memory.
She is one of the countless, faceless millions killed by communism. She is just better known. RIP dear athlete, gone much too soon and suffered much too much.
I love watching her. Its sad,she was treated so wrong. She was a beautiful young gymnast. I would have loved to seen her in Olympics . .Elena, honey you will never be forgotten. I hope you are at peace now.

THESE ATHLETES ARE TREATED LIKE SLAVES. Gymnastics needs way more regulations. Not to mention that they expose the private area of children as if they were sexual objects. I'd never allow a child to wear those excessively and unnecessary revealing leotards.

The extraordinary art of top athletes 😮 this routine by Olga Korbut changed gymnastics forever, from ballet movements and the softness of gymnasts of older generations, to extremely physically difficult and demanding routines that require supreme concentration and a very strong, almost masculine set of muscles 😓💪 as a result, we have this generation extremely dangerous but fantastic movements, to watch and admire 👏👏 this "little sparrow" and "cuckoo" are the two birds that left an indelible mark in gymnastics 🥹🫶 sometimes giving their health and life at the same time 🥇🤸❤️🔥
