    Heh, if I had it all to do over again I might go a different route myself. I like to go shooting and so for me a secure bed cover was a must...nothing you can knife your way thru etc. The big letdown of the Retrax is that while it's fairly secure it's anything but water tight. You end up having to keep a dry bag or whatever to put stuff into. Also the canister if you let things slide around in the bed it'll beat the ever-loving shit out of it. My solution to that was a Pelican 35 liter crossbed box with the rail mounted brackets. That said with the mid height rack getting in/out of it is gonna be a bitch.

    You are right about it lacking a hole chart for each size. That is disappointing. I measure the largest diameter and add about .005 to .010 and get the closest drill bit. The ideal clearance also depends on the material you are putting these into as well. You need to use judgement. I also want to get other nuts for added thread sizes and I am not so sure if mandrels from other tools will fit it. A good tool just lacking some instructions and expanding to other size nuts is questionable at this time.

    • @TrashPandaGarage
      @TrashPandaGarage Před 2 měsíci

      You are correct. It will be about 1.5" wider per side in the front. Most people run wheel spacers in the rear to account for the difference in width on the TS set-ups. If you also swapped in a Dana M226 rear axle from a Titan you would be matching, but the M226 we sourced is from an Xterra, so it's still a slight mismatch.

    I just watched the episode where you picked up the M226, my first for your channel. You talked about the Titan swap and I was thinking "that is pretty standard". Nice to see you have ponied up to the solid axle swap. I bought a '77 Ford Dana 44 myself and have just about finished with the front suspension, though I still need to do steering. I went with a JKU box because it fit inside the frame out of the way of the tire and the JKU verses JK has a higher steering ratio (fewer turns lock to lock). I'll be running hydraulic assist anyway so I'd rather have quicker steering. The JKU is more inline with the D40 wheelbase than the JK. The D22 box is an option I looked at, but I decided I wanted something inside the frame rail and the D22 box was too far forward. That's where my sway bar will be. My axle was similarly rusty and incomplete. I pulled it out of some back woods salvage shop on the NY/PA boarder. You've got an axle with the cast radius are mounts. Are you just planning an running radius arms or are you going to re-tube the axle for a three link? I was planning on doing some videos of my build as well, but I just haven't been able to compel myself to spend the time taking video.

    • @TrashPandaGarage
      @TrashPandaGarage Před 4 měsíci

      Long before we had a CZcams channel I SAS'd an '05 Xterra with a driver drop Dodge D44 that had unit bearings with tone rings so that I had a signal to feed to the ECM so it wouldn't lock out the factory electronic transfer case. It had a 3 link with an outside the frame Toy steering box. Not enough room for a sway bar with that package, and as such it left something to be desired on the street. Although it flexed pretty well. The plan with this axle was to run some aftermarket Ford radius arms on the wedges since they're cast.

    • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony Před 4 měsíci

      @@TrashPandaGaragePackaging is a real challenge for 37" tires. The JKU box just bar fits in with the suction AC line bent a bit. I needed to remove the high pressure line from the compressor to the condenser completely and I'll need to make a new one if I want to keep AC. I made some engines mounts from poly bushings because the stock ones were completely shot and they stuck down pretty far and got in the way of where I wanted to upper link bracket on the axle. I just flexed it out yesterday with a tire on and and while I have some fender trimming to do it looks pretty good. I'll probably need to trim the body a bit where it comes down to the mount in front of the tires and plate it closed for clearance. I got the rear 9" axle as well and I'll make some custom tone rings for it and then build a circuit that uses those signals for rear sensors, and makes copes of those signals for the front. This should prevent ABS problems and still be able to use ABLS in the rear which should work great with the Eaton TruTrac I'll use in the 9". If it doesn't work I'll just get an Atlas. Its something I want anyway because I want a lower low range gear, but I need to draw the line somewhere for now to get this project done. I'm looking forward to seeing how yours comes out with radius arms.

    • @TrashPandaGarage
      @TrashPandaGarage Před 4 měsíci

      @@Fix_It_Again_Tony Sounds rad! Looking forward to some videos of your build. Our Frontier has a divorced Atlas in it. • @Fix_It_Again_Tony
      @Fix_It_Again_Tony Před 4 měsíci

      @@TrashPandaGarageThanks. I saw the shifter video. The box you built for the shifter was nice work. I was also looking for a video of the Atlas install. I've already got the 4WD transmission so I would just get an adapter and put it in place of the stock unit. Divorced was a good idea with the 2WD transmission instead of sourcing the back housing from a 4WD one. Now that my truck is starting to look like something I'll probably post a few videos. I've got an Armada/QX80 PS pump that I want to use, has about 25% more displacement than stock. I want to do a video on porting the pump and maybe rebuilding and porting the JKU box. The steering was already slow at idle before I started modifying the truck. Adding an assist ram without addressing the pump would make it terrible. I'll also do one on suspension geometry and maybe one on modifying the steering knuckle. The JKU box must not have as much throw as the factory Ford box. I tried a longer pitman arm, but it would need to be really long apparently to get even 35°, which is my target. I want to move the drag link attachment point in towards the axle center line to increase the steering angle.

    One thing we didn't address in this video is of course the benefits to re-gearing your axles when you go up more than about 5% in tire diameter, but sometimes the correct gear ratio isn't available on a certain vehicles. However, even if you do re-gear there's probably still some room for speedometer fine tuning to ensure proper transmission shift points. This device seems like a viable option for that, outside of more complicated ECM and TCM tunes that could void any exisiting factory warranties, which is certainly the case with our Colorado. Thanks for watching!

    Where in the hell does it say it charges up to 14 volts or needs 14 volts and no car alternator can charge up to 14 volts. So are you giving a line of bullshit here?

      Bro. Call Batteries Plus customer service and ask them about minimum charging voltage on the X2Power. Then feel free to return and post the information they give you. Also, I never said "NO car alternator can charge up to 14 volts". Go back to the 00:57 mark in the video.

    The best all round AT tire around, when properly inflated and rotated, they last long and run quiet and they are brilliant in rain. If you want something aggressive then go for X-AT.

    That is a lot of weight for a vehicle that pushes 205hp!! I have a 2022 Nissan frontier Pro-4X with a Dobinson 2.5" lift kit with 285/70/17 Maxxis Razor AT-811 P metric with Rhino Rapid wheels. I have gone off road and they held up well. My tire comes in at 43ibs per tire. But hey to each his own good luck cannot wait to see how it performs maybe you're going to do an engine swap or slap on a supercharger.
