Growing up with abusive alcoholic mum and stepdad created a home and family life the felt extremely unsafe without any adults I could see as trustworthy or reliable for anything at all even the most minor issues the might arise. This sense that I should never trust anything my mum told me created an unbreakable character trait at such a young age that it has fundamentally shaped many of my core values. It is the foundational belief of how I think a person should strive to carry themself through life and is hard coded into all my decision making by default. Dishonesty, secrecy or limited disclosure of info in families or between loved ones in the fullness of time atleast in my experience has never shown to provide in any context a better, more preferable outcome than just telling truth. No matter how uncomfortable the conversation may pose in my mind the thought that I wasn't completely honest with my wife my soul mate it would send me into a 3 day guilt spiral mentally which is far more terrifying to me that Its not something id even consider. I have built into what I feel is a loving adult relationship the basis it must be built on trust and honestly. My wife knows from 29 yrs experience being together that if I said it to her then she can trust it was the truth. My heart and mind are open to her 24/7/365. I've had to articulate to her the reasons why I am the way I am that it's also not a mesure by which she should try to compare herself too or try to live up to because that level of commitment to truthfulness and honesty isn't alway easy to take or the kindest way to interact with each other. Its my own bullshit that made me this way and I saw how she internalised my level of disclosure and honesty as she felt unable to reciprocate that level back to me because of her constantly having internal mental tug of war with perfectly normal thoughts of protecting me from hurtful thoughts and her own insecurities that made her scared to tell me things that once spoken are revealed to mean nothing but her mind would build into a huge rift separating our ideals. Hard to explain but I know at times she felt like I was trying to show that I loved her more than she loved me but that had never even occurred to me.

I can really relate to Teri’s story about her HIV. I use to be a police officer. I was searching a known AIDS person who was an intravenous user. After asking him if he had any weapons, narcotics or needles on him and him telling me “no”, I started an external pat search of him. As I got to the leg area, I got poked by an uncapped used syringe. Inside the syringe, there was blood, which is normal for intravenous users. I had to be tested for a year for HIV and AIDS. It was very stressful each time I got tested, even the last test.

3:30 I totally get that. I've literally been BORED of playing video games lately.
