The REAL Reason Behind Addictions & How To Get Over Them
Tibetan Buddhism includes within its teachings a very interesting concept: that of the hungry ghost, known as yidags in Tibetan.
One possible form of hungry ghost can be a person that has died while still in the midst of intense craving or an insatiable addiction.
Tibetan Buddhist believe that at death one sheds only the physical or gross form; the subtle and causal forms of the body remain.
This means that while one is now free of the gross or physical body, they are still in the grip of the subtle body, or mind, that they “made” during their lifetime.
The causal body will retain the seed of the addiction and carry it into the next life if it is not purified.
Thus, those who die in the grip of addiction or craving often remain in the physical plane as disembodied hungry ghosts.
That is, they are still gripped by insatiable addiction but now without the physical body that would give them any chance of satiating that addiction.
Those with the apparent ability to perceive disembodied spirits can perceive hungry ghosts.
These people claim that in those places such as the “red light” districts of many cities where people gather to drink, have sex, or use drugs - three of the most common pursuits of human addiction - hungry ghosts can be seen to collect, often in great numbers.
Addiction is complex.
It transcends mere substance or behavioural abuse.
Addiction is defined as a chronic and relapsing disorder.
It is characterised by compulsive seeking, continued use, and a lack of control.
This continues despite often severe adverse consequences. Fundamentally, addiction involves changes in the brain's reward system.
The repeated exposure to addictive substances or behaviours leads to neuroadaptations.
This diminishes the brain's sensitivity to natural rewards and drives one in the compulsive pursuit of the addictive stimulus.
In the digital age, behavioural addictions related to technology and social media have also begun to take hold.

The solution to any addiction is the same and can be a great gift. The addiction is only a symptom, the problem is ego centricity. The solution is ego deflation which is what every spiritual practice is about. Less ego-more soul-god-love. The twelve steps are to save one from oneself, twelve traditions from each other. Meaning, one’s ego and group ego. The steps open the door and also point one to continue with prayer and meditation.

What is the value of all his enlightenment if he ended up as alcohol abuser? Was it responsible for him to lecture others while not being remotely in control of himself?
He is a human, just like you and me, with all of our vices that comes along with being you. He will bring you no answer, just an perspective of his view, whatever that entails, which is to say what your perspective on his perspective is. "Life, with all of its frantic concerns, is a big act!", what I, from MY perspective, derive is this: the public figure Alan Watts, is just an actor playing his part in this show. Just like you are probably different at work, at home, with your parents, with your spouses parents, with your children, with your teammates. You are WHO YOU ARE, within the act, so act the way YOU want. You dont HAVE to do x because y says so, you are the part that you want to play, not the one you have to play. Now living that way, truly living that way is, for me atleast, so much harder than speaking in concepts about living that way. Its a game of win and lose.

@@xgx899 That analogy isn't accurate. He never said he was perfect nor an example Humans have a tendancy to expect perfection in others while expecting others to happily accept every flaw we have. We are all humans, all flawed. I understand these questions and they are good to ponder - their very insistence lays bare a huge misconception about the whole awakening thing pretty good - but the moment you start to frame them in some kind good & bad dichotomy; you are no longer pondering them. You are back in ego basically trying to find a silver lining or some horror scenario in it. It is irrelevant. Most folks who are wondering about these things are THEMSELVES actually suffering ...from their moral and ethical conditioning, cultural programming and/or fears with the fear of death, the fear of 'not being' at the root of it.

Awakening Kundalini prematurely could indeed be a dark experience, which is why you must - before beginning to work directlty with Kundalini - first dissolve energetic knots (granthis) in your pranic body. Otherwise Kundalini could get stuck at one of the knots and cause a so-called Kundalini Syndrome, with symptoms resembling a psychosis. You can dissolve the knots by performing Maha Bandha, which is a yogic technique that in turn includes the three bandhas of: Mula Bandha, Uddiyana Bandha and Jalandhara Bandha. You should also perform Khechari Mudra together with Maha Bandha, because this mudra helps with dissolving the knots even quicker. If you would be interested in seeing how to perform those techniques, I actually demonstrate all of them step-by-step in a video about Maha Bandha, which you can find in my channel. Do not hesitate to let me know if you should have any questions, I would be glad to further assist you with dissolving the knots and thus making your Kundalini experience divine - instead of dark.

Addiction is an unwillingness to feel pain, seek discomfort. The idea its a disease that one is an addict can only manifest more symptoms. 12step modalities saved my life, the truth though is this. 12 step modalities cause more addiction symptoms... On the spiritual path, the ascension path. One will have to transcend many of the ideas currently contained in 12step programs
People often ask, why are hair and nails left over so often? It's because out of all the body parts, the hair and nails contain the highest concentration of rajastic and tamasic vibrations, so they are the most difficult to purify and dissolve into the 5 wisdom lights.
