Purus vodka tips the scales on our budget shelf!
If you are interested in helping us keep the show running please think about buying us a drink or throwing us a tip to our Venmo. www.venmo.com/u/tastebudguys
Purus vodka wasn't something we sought out, but it was on sale and the bottle looked cool so into the studio it came. With very low expectations, we actually wound up liking this bottle for the most part. It's never a good sign when you start with the bottle, but here we go. It's an interesting bottle, and one that's unique enough to stand out on the shelf. Watch out for that mile long neck pour though. The vodka itself is a bit sweet, clean, and hot. Although it's a wheat vodka, it reminds of good clean moonshine a bit. While not a go-to bottle for us, we've certainly had worse. Cheers!

You can call us Taste Buds or the Two Guys behind the counter, it doesn't matter to us. We are two guys from Missouri doing a Craft Beer Review and a Whiskey Review (or Whisky Review depending where you are from) with a drive to always Try Something New. We won't drive you crazy with snobby tasting notes that no one else will understand, just a general idea of what the beer or food tastes like. We want YOU to join us in trying exciting new things to open our minds, and pallets, to something different. So join Chris Horn and Lyal Strickland as we foray into some suds and grains and stumble all over ourselves trying to sound smarter than they really are. Some of the things we love to try are Scotch, Bourbon, Rum, Tequila, wine, and craft beer of all kinds. We argue between Stouts and Porters, IPA and Sour, Farmhouse and Lager. I'm sure there isn't anything we won't disagree about except that we like to try new stuff.

Lindeman's Peche is a beer for beer haters and beer lovers alike!
zhlédnutí 21Před 12 hodinami
Lindeman's is pretty much synonymous with lambics in our area. Of course lambic's themselves aren't that common. So, here's our PSA for anyone who hates beer or knows someone who hates beer. Make them try a lambic from Lindemans. This stuff is sweet, with a little punch of sour, and wonderful yeasty beer notes. It's damn delicious and while you might not feel like downing a 12 pack of them, the...

Is Insolito Blanco Tequila what you should be buying instead?

Neither one of us can remember liking the Insolito expression we had a while back....but we also can't remember whether it was the reposado or the anejo. Enter Insolito Blanco. A slight sweetness balances with...

Is Milagro Anejo any good?

Milagro is bottle you're likely to see sitting quietly in the corner of most bars that have a tequila selection beyond Cuervo Gold and worse. This does not make it an incredible, delicious, high-end tequila, but with its wide distribution, it could quite possibly be your best choice. And that, buddies, is not a bad thing. Milagro almost certainly has additives, but that also makes it a sweet si...

Hello 👋 from James's video. I can't wait for the cocktail video/s as well as the indepth individual James Gin videos.
Welcome! I guess we need to gather up a few recipe ideas and try it out. I'm super confident the G&T will be amazing. ~cheers
Congratulations guys... Mr James May has acknowledged your review..subscription rise imminent...
We seen that. Not gonna lie, for me, that is one of the cooler things that has happened. I am a fan for sure. Thanks for sharing! ~cheers
So many future people to disappoint! Thanks for joining us though, we are excited.
I tried it the other day at one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. I really liked how the bottle looks so of course I wanted to try it. I had the last little bit that was in the bottle and the bartender said that they give away the empty bottles to whoever wants them so I was able to keep the cool bottle, lol!
WORTH IT! They have the best bottle, I actually kept ours as well. ~cheers
Which one of you guys has this as a house or mancave?
So, that's a bit of a story. It is not at either of our houses, its actually in the basement of a very old building. I used to own it, then Lyal bought it. Over the last 5 years, we just kept building, it started out as a small bar with a couple bottles (see first year episodes), then we moved it like year two to a bigger area, and then moved it again like year 3 to what you see now, and then last year we actually finished up the rest of the basement so we had an actual place to hang out besides behind the bar. We always say hit us up if you come through the area, we mean it!
@chrishorn8755 that's badass. Not a bar but it is a bar!
Thanks man. It’s actually two. There is an entirely stocked user bar at the front that we actually drink at. The one in the videos is for recording. Well, showing off too, I suppose. Lol😂
How many episodes do you guys record in a taping? What do you do after the recordings? That would be a cool behind the scenes video to drop on your channel
Hi Nick. Thanks for the questions. Typically, we do about 3 episodes in a night. Unless we are behind then we shoot more like 6-8....and we definitely did not try to do 13 in one night because of covid rules.... Anyhow, usually after the recording, we drink some more, or pick some music (Lyal is a musician as we say) or we play cards.... or all of that. I am not sure if we have ever done an "after episode" but we have done several live episodes that is basically us just sitting there drinking and chatting with whomever shows up online. We are actually due for another one. We have done some tours of the place, but nothing really recent. Might be time for that as well, it's changed a lot over the years. ~cheers
There is a way to appreciate this- 1- wet your lips. With 30 seconds. 2-take a sip. Now it’s tequila. Wait one minute. 3. Finish, and it’s the the sweet nectar of Jesus.
I think it is the waiting part we are messing up. ;)
Because it's terrible stuff lol
Man, I can appreciate the opinion, but I have to disagree on this one. I genuinely enjoy B&T. What would you recommend?
You’d be fine with vanilla flavoring and sweeteners in a bourbon? Why would you be fine with it in a tequila
Not sure what you are referring to, I haven't watched that video in a while. But in general, I/we are certainly not ok with vanilla flavored bourbon. At least its not our thing. To each their own, of course.
@@tastebudguys you guys just seemed to refer to additive free tequila as a health thing that isn’t that important, when “additive free tequila” just refers to tequila that doesn’t have coloring, flavorings, and sweeteners like most tequilas do bc there aren’t as many rules as in whiskey
I don’t think that would be the opinion we have at this time, at least. We are slowly learning about tequila, since it doesn’t have as many rules as bourbon, like you said, it takes a lot more digging to know about every bottle. We are learning as we go friend.
This is my favorite Bourbon. I love this stuff and it is paired with a good Arthur Fuente Hemingway Sort Story Cigar.
Interesting. We did not love it. But was kind of surprised since normally we do like the Elijah Craig brand. Any other go-to bottles for you?
I've had 6 of these bottles, it's fantastic stuff!! BUT, I've found you really need to "set a stop watch on this tequila." I'm not joking. The flavor and experience dramatically changes very quickly! So pour it into the glass and let it sit for 7-11 minutes to open up before tasting it. The peak experience is 7 to 15 minutes after you pour it into a glass. After 30-40 minutes in the glass the taste is entirely different, not nearly as good. It's really great stuff, but you have to drink it on that window of time.
You know what is really interesting, we was not loving it at first, but as the bottle sat and we kept nipping at it over time, we became more infatuated with the product. That's good stuff to know, may need to try it. ~cheers
Cazadores has quite a bit of additives and really isn’t great compared to to a good no additive tequila. Tapatio, el Tesoro, cimmaron, siete leguas are a few non additive tequilas that will be way better than this. It’s so sweet from the additives, additive free tequila shouldn’t taste like this.
Cimmaron is only 28.99 for a liter and blows cazadores out of the water
Yep, Cazadores is trash. When I got real tequila I had to pour the rest of this crap down the drain. Undrinkable.
Definitely can confirm you are not lying.
Great point!
2 years after the fact and not reading comments below but this rum is not $60, it's like $30-$35 depending where you live...
I believe you. Honestly, rum didn’t do much for us until we started exploring high proof rums. Have you had the rolling fork stuff? That’s what’s been blowing our minds lately. -lyal
As an Israeli (of Caucasian Jewish descent) this is me and my friends' go to vodka when we're low on budget lmao. The best vodkas I know and had are probably Beluga and Roberto Cavalli, also there's a good quality vodka from the Netherlands called vodka forty which I doubt you'll be able to find but so far it's my favorite, it is also much cheaper than other premium vodkas.
Ok. Keep tabs on us. I will try to look for some of these, but it's certainly not something we are skilled in locating. Any budget vodka you suggest? ~cheers
All natural no additives.
Can u guys turn up the audio receiver volume?
You guys got the video, your audio needs to be equal
You guys say at the beginning, but us a beer. So do you guys do beer reviews?
We definitely do. But not as often as we used to, the beers don’t tend to get very much traction. But we have been kicking around bringing back a third episode per week and doing them on like Saturdays or something. If you have any suggestions we’d love to hear it.
😃🫡
What’s up, buddy. How’s things going?
The amsterdam coconut, was surprisingly good.
I scored it a "B" (good).
Arette repo for the same price is hard to beat.
You really need to try the Oatmeal Spice, it is amazing!!!!
Buy them online and shipped to your house. 😇. Great as gifts.
I like the original Asian Parsnip. It’s what I’d share with a friend. Great plain over ice. Ramstud I didn’t like so much, I couldn’t find a good cocktail mix for it. It tastes interesting by itself but no other use. Although I did try hotdogs with mustard and it went well. Navy Strength is terrific in a cocktail due to is strength. And I haven’t had Drizzle yet.
I think we are about to start diggin in on recipes for these. If you have discovered any really good ones, let us know.
@@tastebudguys sure. I find Asian Parsnips to be great anywhere regular gin is used. Ramstud, nothing yet. I literally ate a hotdog with mustard just to experience the flavor. They went well but no mixed drinks (I tried gin and tonic & Tom Colin’s and it didn’t go well). The mustard is mild, however it’s still mustard. Bitter and not sweet. Good luck with that one.
Excellent. Thanks for the info!
I just read this article CNBC: "Jordan himself is promising no less than “the world’s finest tequila”-strong words from the man often referred to as the world’s greatest basketball player." Michael Jordan claiming he has the finest tequila would be like Pancho Villa saying he made the finest soul food in the world. It's a grand marketing scheme; many will buy it just because he said so. What next, he will produce the finest Mexican food in the world? heeeheeeee. It never ends. Drink up, ladies and gentlemen; it's the finest.
My mother in law picked me up a bottle of this last Christmas. Specifically the military edition since I’m a vet. Anyways, I must’ve like it as I proceeded to drink half the bottle while playing cards 😆 it was pretty good neat and on the rocks
I agree that a Buffalo River float trip is such a good time. It’s a little out of the way to get to, but well worth the trip.
I will have a birthday party and im looking for a cheap good tequila. I have 3 options #1 Coa reposado #2 Jimador reposado #3 El Ultimo reposado which one is better????
I’ve never had Ultimo… COA is gonna be sweeter than the jimador. If you’re mixing with it, I think jimador would stand up better, but coa is gonna be more approachable to just sip or even shoot. If you can find it, el tequileno is one of our favorite non additive budget tequilas that strikes a nice balance between natural sweetness and peppery overtones. Hope that helps! -Lyal
@@tastebudguys thank you for your help
I keep a bottle of OGD 114 on my shelf at all times. When I run out, I go buy more. I get a big bananas foster kinda flavor from it myself typically.
It’s hard to beat for a shelf standard

Just drank half a fifth. Ion like it at all🤢🤮
You know, going back to it, I gotta agree. This was a while ago so both our local selection and knowledge has increased. This is a last resort purchase. -Lyal
I also recommend to add a drop or two of water, amazing how much of a difference a small amount makes. If you enjoyed that I'd highly recommend our Sharp Shooter Rye and our Norton wine barrel finished Rye.
Its the ultimate fridge beer... Living in wisconsin we're very fortunate to have it instead of miller or budweiser and any other light beer close to the same price.
How bout those Chhhiiieeefffsss!
probably the best additive tequila in the market. you might wanna try volcan de mi tierra XA if you want a similar profile to sweet tequila without the additives
I'm definitely a fan of Heaven Hill products. Great review my friends.
As a little kid in the 70’s I remember that bottle being very common at my grandparent’s house. I love a good 7&7 and have a soft spot for Seagrams.
NICE looking bar! I'm gonna redo my mancave bar now to look like yours
trying some Wisers Vanilla now looks like different packaging not sure if its identical, no burn but wow is it sweet.. it almost tastes good straight but the sweetness just sticks around too long and becomes sickening, i take my coffee with no sugar and tend to be less sweet on everything so someone who enjoys 5 sugar in their tea might like this but people who take 5 sugar in their tea dont drink whiskey neat
These were all so dang good.
