My channel is all about lure fishing, mostly LRF with some freshwater ultralight fishing and a bit of HRF fishing too. Most of my fishing is done in Devon, although I do like to make the odd trip across the border into Cornwall and occasionally Dorset 👍🎣

are you nipping the barb down on the decoy hooks.?

@@rhyswilliams1413 thanks! Yes I can't remember which but I like to use either the Decoy mini assist hooks or the jigpara assists 🎣

Oh yes! 2 weeks & I'm there for 2. Inspiring video, thanks.
Ah nice one, hope you have a great time. Thanks! 👍🎣
@DevonLerfer We're you using braid mainline? I've got some 2.5g jigheads, do you think a lighter jig would be best?
@@Smiffy830 yeah was using a 0.4pe braid mainline with fluoro leader. 2.5g jighead will probably be suitable in some situations, I chopped and changed a bit depending on what lure I was using and what I was after, a lot of my target species had pretty small mouths so found a cheb or split shot rig more useful for a lot of them 👍
@DevonLerfer yeah, sounds good that, I've got some braid, but the fisheries I use don't allow it, only use it on canal for pike & perch. I just bought some micro jigheads about 1.5g, I'll add a few number 6 shot if it's a bit light. Nice 1, thanks for getting back to me. Tight lines🐟🪱🎣👍
@@Smiffy830 no worries, best of luck! 👍🎣
Great video and some cracking species. Were you bouncing the Nano Aji jigs along the bottom or were the fish taking them on the drop?
@@rhyswilliams1413 thanks mate. The water was quite shallow there but I was twitching them close to where I thought the bottom was, they were in theory hitting on the drop though as bites were coming on the pause between twitches as the lure fluttered back down 👍🎣
Off to Fuerteventura next week so can’t wait to give it a go.
Thank you for the reply.
Hi i need some advice on the Marukyu Power Isome going to try LFR. I'm a fresh water angler and have to order online as i live over two hour from the sea and can't physically see them looked at them online four different sizes but doesn't say if they are all the same width any advice Cheers dave
Hi Dave, we generally stick with M and L for most of our LRF fishing. S is very thin and easy to split when putting on the hook. If you wanted to just try one size I'd suggest going for L, you can cut all Isome down to suit what you're targeting, I hope that helps a bit! 👍
@@DevonLerfer cheers 🤛🏻
Is it worth taking heavier gear and lures around this area ?
@@johntrout1957 yes there are some big predators to be caught around the Canary Islands. From my limited observations so far though, the guys using heavier gear tend to struggle whereas scaling down generally keeps the bites coming consistently 🎣
What net do you have there??

Great video and nice catches! What do you think about the rod, would you recommend it? Is it a tubular tip or solid?
Thank you! I'm really impressed with the rod, it's a great all rounder. I've not managed to find out on the spec, but my feeling is that it's a tubular tipped rod as it feels right when working metals and hard lures, don't quote me on that though 😅

So little grouper. I live here in Cyprus and swim most days 50 or 200 meters at sea at never seen and fish bigger than my hand. It’s quite different than South Carolina where I am from as there are trout and flounder and further out Spanish and king mackerel. I guess the reason for this is there are no nutrients in the sea, which is why the water is so blue, and no current, like the Gulf Stream. Notice there are no birds here either. And most fish sold the the market are farmed in floating pens. There are large grouper but 20 km or so out. Maybe they should sink some ships here to build reefs.
That's an interesting theory, it did seem there was a lack of fish of any size apart from a fleeting glimpse of some mahi mahi which were hunting in close to shore on the north west coast. It does seem that there are a lot of anglers catching and keeping all the small fish they catch too, perhaps they just never get the chance to get big in those places?
@@DevonLerfer Hi. What's remarkable is look at the bait those anglers use. They use crumbled up meal of some kind that you form into a ball and stick on the hook, the kind we would use in a fresh water pond in the USA (if you did not have worms). Yes I find it shocking that they keep these tiny fish. Spear fishermen too get fish, but they are always so small. Notice too there are not Bertram and Hatteras and other sport fishing boats in the marinas here. As for what you think, I believe it a myth to blame any of this on overfishing. I mean look around, we don't even have fishing fleets. Instead you see these maybe 6-8 meter boats that go our and put oat floating drift nets. They put them at night and then pick them up in the morning. There's no purse seiners or shrimp boats dragging the bottom. Never seen any long liner vessels here either.
Great video lots of scrambling about to get to crevices ,gullets and rock pools. Where do you get the 97t hooks. You seem to use these a lot.
Cheers Brian, I love scrambling around on the rocks! Those hooks are from Nine Seven Tungsten. We do have some good alternatives such as the Decoy SG-3 over at The Big Lerf Tackle Shop too if you're looking at options for Cheb hooks 🙂
what baits are you using? i didnt hear about it in the video, maybe i missed it

A superb session. Nice spot.
Cheers David! 👍🎣
Great video mate, potentially a stupid question coming up. After casting out, what are you actually doing to the lure/rod to generate an action on the lure? I'm comfortable enough dropshotting in LRF, but want to get better in the more active, proper lure fishing type stuff Any tips would be appreciated
Thanks mate. Definitely not a stupid question! It depends on what I'm fishing with and where I am but in this instance, for the wrasse I let the lure sink to the bottom on a slack line and then give it 2 or 3 twitches with short sharp jerks of the rod, followed by a pause to let the lure fall back to the bottom and repeat. It's worth experimenting with the length of pause, I'll sometimes let it sit for 10+ plus seconds before moving it again, wrasse will often move in and stare at a lure for a bit before hitting it. With metals, it's a more varied approach, but I do like a twitch and pause approach for these, but searching through the water column rather than fishing hard on the deck. Although fishing on or near the bottom can bring rewards with metals, you just need to consider what the ground is like where you're fishing. Hope that helps a bit ! 🎣
@@DevonLerferyou're an absolute star mate, of all the information on lure fishing I've always found clear instructions on that the hardest to find! Will be put to good use

beautiful fish. for a 7ft 1 10g rod would a 1000 or 2000 size shimano be best?
Cheers! For ultralight/LRF most anglers tend to go for 1000 size. It is personal preference though, I actually really like fishing with the Shimano Soare BB C2000 PGSS reels (I have 3 of them 😅) as they are 1000 sized reel but have a 2000 sized spool, best of both worlds imo 🙂
