Hoping for a bit of advice here. I feel like many authors nowadays are self-published. While that can be a good thing, it also means that there is an overload of very similar and sadly not high-quality books out there. Some of which are picked up by booktok and Co. and there is so much hype around them that other, potentially to definitely better books do not get any spotlight. I find it really difficult to find well-written books that are labeled correctly as to their content that I don't have to either fight my way through or put down outright in the middle of it. So here I am, struggling to find my next book to read that will not disappoint. I love fantasy and dabble in almost every other genre. Can someone please recommend well-written books that are not full of booktok hype but actually good books? Series or standalones is whatever, but I do prefer finished series. Can someone help me find my next book?

I totally agree with the tandem read of Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn. For the newbies without spoiling anything. They both take place at the same time. Empire of Storms covers the most of the main characters during this time. Tower of Dawn covers characters who are on a different side quest. I feel like that is the most spoiler free way I can say that. But timeline wise both books happen at the same time

Have you heard anything about Collide by Bal Khabra? I am quite intrigued to read it, but am not sure whether I will like it.

I read The Seven Year Slip by Ashley Posten. And just ... amazing! I was not expecting it, but I already wanted to reread this book at the 100-page mark because it was just that good. And it kept being that good of a book. I have never reread a book, but I am thinking about rereading this quite soon. Also had a similar experience with The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. A beautiful story; atmospheric, romantic, dark, gorgeous writing. Also, one I wanted to reread, but that realization came once I finished the book.

I liked Assistant to the Villain and I’m excited for the second one. It was a simple, fun read. Give Me Butterflies was sweet and good ❤ I know it might be an unpopular opinion, but Diem (Spark of the Everflame) is incredibly unlikeable to me. I like her a bit more towards the end of the 3rd book, so I’ll continue the series (because I’m too stubborn not too), but I’m just not vibing with her. Everyone else is great.

I recently read this book and I unfortunately didn’t like it. I normally love Ali’s books, but this book and Bride (the book she released in February) just didn’t work for me. I’m glad you enjoyed it, but it didn’t work for me sadly, but I really wish I liked it 😭 I think it didn’t work for me because I was missing the emotional connection. In my opinion, it felt like the characters weren’t really in love, it just felt like lust to me. And when I got to the love confession, it didn’t feel genuine to me. That being said, I did really love learning about their backstories, even if the book didn’t work for me. I’m really glad you enjoyed the book though, from watching your video, I can definitely understand why you enjoyed it.

I love the shadowhunters universe. The infernal devices is my favorite series in the universe. Tessa, Will, and Jem have my whole heart forever. I feel like it was the best written series and I feel much more connected to the characters in the infernal devices series. I love the mortal instruments and the dark artifices too, but just not as much. Magnus is my favorite character from the original series, I just found him so entertaining. I also really loved the last hours series, even though the last book in the trilogy wasn’t my favorite. I never thought I would ever read any book in the shadowhunters series, but I got into the universe during the pandemic. Anyway, I just subscribed to your channel 😊

My hottest take, Brandon Sanderson is boring! For me his books are like a complex spreadsheet of plot points filled in to resemble a story. I call him Banjo Sandman bc he bores and annoys me. Smut gets repetitive bc it feeds off of itself and chases trends. Example they use the same few mythological characters instead of taking a more obscure character and doing someting creative. Also they lack detail where could make something more than the same scene but the dude has horns instead of wings. Other senses like taste are often overlooked. Luna Fury is my personal fav smut writer, her Taken by the Witch Queen series is great and I'm invested in the story.

YES this is so true, it feels so impersonal somehow when I'm at the first pages and trying to figure out what the book is about. If the beginning phase takes too long, I worry whether I'm ever going to care about the characters or the story at all
