In Star Trek The Next Generation, touchscreens, voice activation of music and search queries, and AI photo enhancement didn’t exist in the real world yet. Now they do, and the matter replicator and warp drive are really the only pieces of tech that truly have no present-day corollary. It’s amazing. Any time you make a remake, or an adaptation in any direction, you get the issue of having to balance the source material with new stuff. Whether it is a book, movie, tv show, game or real-life event, each way of telling a story has its own advantages and disadvantages. Adapting means you need change, because a direct translation isn't going to work (just imagine if the adaptation of Street fighter or Mortal Kombat had the characters act identical to the in-game fights), but if you stray too far then it's just a different story with the names of the original on it

That's not what "deus ex machina" means. The term implies that the thing's appearance was not foreshadowed by the previous action, that it doesn't fit the context of the story, and that the writer used it merely to resolve an element of the plot. Ape Escape comes to mind. There are two separate English Dubs for the main 3 games. A US and UK dub. I believe the first game has a couple of the original Pokemon voice actors for the US version. The UK version has a bunch of voices you'd hear all the time on TV. Here in Australia we got the UK dub. But they did it for all 3 games while also changing the character names for the US versions.
