Here's the thing about Indy. The Pre-show video explains that you're going into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye and how you're not supposed to look into the Idols eyes. There's always someone that does and as a result all of the traps in the temple start to go off. I love the fact that Indy is more of a chose your own adventure and find the thrill of the perils the temple has in store for you. Dinosaur has a very controlled plot line and it's fine. The beauty of Indy is the more you ride it the more of the details in the ride you discover. As far as California Adventure, the original California Adventure was sadly that of any amusement park you can find in any random town. They started adding a lot more extensive theming and IP. While some of the IP their adding makes sense (San Fransokyo is a good recent one), Pixar Pier is a superficial IP skin on the original beachside (Paradise Pier) amusement park. California is a huge state and just a few miles away California does turn into desert so the theming for Carsland does fit in a way. Route 66 which goes through the desert ends in Los Angeles. Avengers Campus does feel really out of place and the storyline that it's the Avengers California base is a stretch. I recently went to WDW for the first time. I have to say some of the parks are very impressive as far as scale. where they fell flat to me was in convenience. The proximity of the parks makes ping ponging and utilizing lightning lanes a breeze and worth the money. You do spend more time in security at Disneyland but you spend less time getting from the parking lot, across a lake just to get to the park entrance. Where I think Disneyland beats WDW hands down is in those spontaneous magic moments that make a kid excited to see their favorite character. The characters get more liberty to create magic. It's not a rare sighting to see Peter Pan with a swarm of kids playing follow the leader around Fantasyland.

I know that only one of you have been prior to this trip, but, what you have to understand is that Disneyland started it all. It was the footprint for the MK. Now, I have only been to WDW twice and I was born and raised in San Diego, so I would go to the park at least 5 times a year. Haunted Mansion is my favorite ride, it is, in many ways better than the MK, for instance the hall of portraits is such a better feeling, you walk through as if you are walking through a Mansion, MK you ride through it, which myself is not as good, and all the charm is gone. Our Space Mountain is much better, you don't feel as if you are going to die. WDW Splash Mountain is better than ours, when it was there. i don't like Dinosaur at all, it's very sterile, IMO. Indiana Jones is by far a better experience. Being a CA native, I think Finding Nemo is a joke, The Submarine Voyage was a wonderful ride. Now granted, i'm bias, I love Disneyland. Don't get me wrong, I also love WDW. But you are so used to WDW and it's your home park. My first visit to Disneyland was in 1971 when I was 9 years old. It has changed soooooo much, some for the better, some not. Great video though, and congrats on your engagement!!!!

@@chrisfoxwell4128 It's a safety issue. Saving 10 steps isn't going to seem so important when you fall and break your nose, or get clotheslined while trying to duck under. And yeah, it is a situation of "play stupid games win stupid prizes" on the guest's part, but if a serious injury does occur it results in a plethora of issues for the cast members of that attraction as well as the other other guests trying to experience that attraction; the injured guest would not be the only one negatively impacted by their decision. And for the record, for every attraction there should be a cast member whose responsibilities include managing the ropes in the queue. If there are a lot of unnecessary ropes up, someone isn't doing their job. But that doesn't mean people have the right to act improperly. And of course there is the point that going under or over the ropes likely doesn't save you any energy at all. Does 10 small steps really use more energy than jumping over or ducking underneath? I'm not a physicist, but it seems like a wash to me. And it definitely doesn't save any time since you'll have to wait once you reach the end of the line anyway. (Even in the extremely rare case that there isn't a single other person in line, you'd still have to wait for the ride to cycle before you can board.) It the vast majority of cases it would definitely result in more time spent standing still, which, for people with a bad back like me, hurts more than walking does. So even if it wasn't a safety issue, I can't see how there is any benefit.

Isn't there some sort of Cast Member event where a park is closed for the general public after 6:00 p.m and stays open for the cast members (including CP's?). I've seen videos where this does occur. The CP's get a bag that has a map, some stickers, maybe a pin, and you get a free popcorn bucket. Plus the food in most of the kiosks are free for the CP's at the event. Is any of that true???

    • @backstagethoughts
      @backstagethoughts Před měsícem

Not that I know of, and definitely not while we were there. It's possible that it was a thing in the past, or that it is now but wasn't in 2022. They do close Magic Kingdom early sometimes for cast member events, but to my knowledge those are only anniversary events for Disney employees that have been with the company for 10, 15, 20, 25, etc. years. They do have free food and (alcoholic) drinks (yes, alcohol in Magic Kingdom), and DJs that blast music directly across from the attraction that you are trying to work. I speak from experience as I actually had to work one of those, and it was awful. I said "Disney employees" earlier instead of cast members because very few of the attendees of the event work in the parks, a fact that is very apparent from their behavior. Maybe I'll talk more about it in a future video.

That reminds me of my last trip to Universal Studios Orlando. I was like 2-3 loads away from getting to ride the velocicoaster when the rider operators pulled a bunch of high school students off and held them there. They were using a hand held metal detector to search them and reviewing the footage from the ride. After the ride was shut down and I was walking to the next attraction, I could see some employees walking the ride, presumably looking for something that had fallen or to see if there were any causes for concern. I never did get to ride the ride as the next day, it was closed again, but it was rather annoying that some student doing something stupid led to a bunch of visitors wasting a bunch of time in line for nothing. We did get passes, but you don't get the time back.

I was stuck on Pirates in Disneyland once and spent 45 mins next to the animatronic of the old guy at the cabin before the first drop. It seemed like there was some issue that the boat was at the drop wouldn't go down. In any case it required an evacuation, and had to have the Disneyland Fire Department folks to come out, strap the boats together and evacuate it row by row into the boat ahead until you reached the evacuation platform. Ended up having to evacuate through the backstage area of the Blue Bayou restaurant and back out to the park. Thought it was the coolest experience ever.

    • @backstagethoughts

Could have been an issue with the downramp, but it's more likely that the boats were intentionally prevented from going down the drop due to an issue elsewhere. When the ride e-stops for any reason, boats are held before the drops in order to stop ride motion as much as possible.

Whatever cast member is at that position at the time. Can't speak for other attractions, but the Tower position at Pirates is part of the cast member rotation, and the person's job is to monitor cameras, work the main control panel, and respond to unusual/emergency situations. In an emergency or break down, they will communicate with a coordinator, leader, and maintenance to handle the issue / try to get the ride operational again. They will receive direction from these people, but it's just an ordinary cast member that pushes the buttons and makes the announcements.

It’s a classic; like a Corvette from the 1950s. The reason everything is so much smaller is because once hotels and other companies found out that Disneyland was being constructed, they bought the land around it. Now, when WDW was built, it was hush-hush to avoid the same problem. Therefore, there’s more space available for new stuff. 7:25 “No other snacks“?! Disneyland doesn’t need to be the most modern and flashy. I’m surprised since you claim to be Disney people you didn’t feel the vibe most people do walking into Walt’s park. Most true Disney people do. My guess is you aren’t really Disney people you are WDW employees comparing two theme parks. If you didn’t feel the childlike wonder walking into Disneyland, that is all you can truly be

Actually, Walt's vision for Disneyland was that the park (and future parks) is supposed to change, grow, and improve. He famously said "Disneyland will never be complete." Unlike his films, he acknowledged and embraced the fact that theme parks are not static. Disneyland was the only park he was able to see during his lifetime, but as long as the parks continue to focus on attractions and decor that capture the imagination of theit guests, then they are all Walt's parks in that they are in line with his vision. Even though he had a direct hand in designing Dinseyland, everything he said during his lifetime would suggest that he would want his parks to become "modern and flashy" with the times, not stay the same way he initially designed them to be.

Indiana jones doesn't have a theme? Its literally the best themed (opinion ofc) Indiana jones went into the temple to figure out what was happening, and he went missing so sala starts an attraction in the temple to fund his search for Indiana jones, then someone in your vehicle looks into Marah's eyes, and she tries to kill you

Just wanted to clarify a few things because it seems like some people are getting the wrong idea: We had a great time at both Disneyland parks. We discuss a lot of observations in this video, as well as comparisons to WDW, but none of them are complaints. Discussing how things are different, or which things we prefer better on one or the other coast does not mean that we hate how it is in the other park. We both still love Space Mountain in Magic Kingdom even though we preferred the Disneyland version, and we both still enjoyed going to Disneyland even though it took more time to get through security. Also, a note from Kenzie: "I'm not just blindly agreeing with Tommy, he has his opinion and that doesn't invalidate mine. Also he isn't pressuring me to think the same thing he does I just don't really like arguing when it's okay if our opinions differ. I understand you guys mean well by bringing it up but I voiced my opinions and those didn't change based on what he said. Also this is so embarrassing but when Tommy mentions DCA being themed to California I had no idea that was supposed to be the theme. I just meant that the Cars Land and Avengers Campus attention to detail was really good. So when he brought that up I didn't really know how to respond because I had to process the information lol." Thank you all so much for the support. It means a lot to have so much love on this video after disappearing for 5 months. :)

I just want to add I definitely agree with you about the Disneyland cast members. They seem very disconnected and cold with the guest and not nearly as friendly as they have been in previous years. They are not "in character" in the way a Disney cast member is expected. I don't have an explanation for that and thought I was the only one that noticed that lol.

Former Disneyland Cast Member here 2009-2016. When I started at Disneyland, we still had a lot of "Walt's" culture remaining. People who worked at Disneyland for the most part were there for the long-haul and had been working there most of their lives and passed on "tribal knowledge and wisdom" -as we called it. Lots of elderly cast members from Walt's era, who could tell you stories of seeing him in the park! But then 2012 changed everything. The resort grew massively, seemingly overnight. They fired A LOT of senior cast members, got rid of full-time positions for regular cast members (aside from management jobs), and they took away all the parties and freebies we hosted on a monthly basis. (That's right, each ride and restaurant used to have something fun going on all the time, just for Cast Members of that location!) The "new brood" of Cast Members that came in didn't go through the rigorous and extensive vetting process that we went through, Disneyland Resort just hired anyone with a beating heart. That's not to say the people were awful...but they didn't have "the magic", they were there to work a job, the fact that their employment was at Disneyland was just a bonus. They never got to experience that sense of family and togetherness the way we used to. And with the HUGE loss of our older Cast and their "tribal knowledge", the magic wasn't passed down the same way anymore...once the newbies came out of Disney University, that was it...there were no elders there to tell them the proper way to interact with guests, or why everything they do matters or has importance. This was all part of the company's plan, they called it "One Disney". To my understanding, the big wigs out in Orlando didn't like that Disneyland did things their own way and insisted that cast member training, and the cast culture itself be identical on both coasts. "One Disney" destroyed Disneyland forever...and that major shift happened in 2012. By the time 2016 rolled around, the cast culture there was so darn toxic that I gave up on the idea of working there my whole life, and just left the company and never turned back. It used to be a great place to work.

Seems like you’re trying hard to dislike Disneyland. Your arguments are the reasons why Disneyland better then magic kingdom. It’s a vibe… unlike magic kingdom, it’s just a place.

I don't dislike Disneyland. I liked it a lot actually. Still miles ahead of any of the Universal parks (which, for the record, I also enjoy). Just don't think it's better than MK.

I don't get the complaint about the ID checking, personally. Like for your account, if no one checks IDs, that means anyone can just use your account, which makes sense from a business perspective. It does make sharing an account hard, which is annoying, but I can see both sides on this one. The one that baffles me though is complaining that you don't get ID'd as often in Florida but that you get ID'd every single time in California when buying alcohol at 10:16 Like, that's just the law. If they were to get caught breaking it, they could lose their license to sell alcohol, as well as get fined. Especially if they don't check and they end up selling alcohol to a minor, they could potentially face jail time. So to complain about people literally just following the law and making sure that they're not going to get in trouble, with a very minor inconvenience for you that takes maybe an extra two to four seconds comes off as weird to me.

It’s funny seeing people from Orlando disliking Disneyland and vice versa from California. I’m from California and a Disneyland magic key holder and when my wife and I visited Magic Kingdom it made both of us just miss Disneyland so much. We just love the vibes at Disneyland a lot more. Though I do agree there are some Disneyland cast members that shouldn’t be cast members. Also, dude! Don’t shut down your fiancé’s opinion so much! It’s her opinion. When you gave yours she was so much more respectful!

Neither of us disliked it! We borh had a great time. We just prefer WDW. I think most people will prefer the park they grew up with; nostalgia is powerful. Also, wasn't trying to shut her down at all (and she didn't take it that way). I love an argument; I think it leads to more informed opinions when people have to think of ways to defend their points of view. I tell her all the time to stick to her guns rather than defaulting to an "ok you're right" all the time lol.

Just to note, Cars Land was originally conceived to celebrate California's car culture but was later adapted to use Pixar's Cars as a theme due to the success of the movie. But the original concept is CA themed. Tow Mater is one of the underrated rides in DCA. It is actually a lot of fun. It has a similar ride system as the Baymax in tokyo Disney.

Thanks for taking the time to do this. I'm from the West Coast and grew up going to Disneyland so I am biased for Disneyland. I'm a lifetime Disney fan. I even worked for Disney Cruise line. I plan on going to Disneyworld this summer but I'm mostly looking forward to Epcot. The advantage that Florida has is in the variety of Disney parks and themes. I'm excited about that. New subscriber here. I'm glad I watched this video.

  • @davids6898

This will trigger some but here is the main difference in a nutshell. “Disneyland is a park built by a father for his daughters. Walt Disney World is a resort built by a committee for the masses”. Although this doesn’t excuse the robotic nature of the cast members, except that with a local clientele there maybe is more occurrence of dishonesty and theft, hence the checking of ID’s. (And checking ID for liquor purchase is state law so there’s that). Regarding churros Disneyland has a higher local clientele which means more people of Hispanic/Mexican descent so there’s that. And hot off the press - the Disneyland turnstiles are going to be replaced with a system similar to Disneyland Paris.

Typically Haunted Mansion would have been restored to the standard overlay by this time. However its going to be closed soon for pretty much the rest of the year and will likely open back up during holiday theming. So they left it up. For Pirates, I think the story line is the old man at the cabin in the beginning used to be a pirate. And you are going through his old memories/life experiences. Matterhorn is a back breaker, you really gotta lean forward on it.

Makes sense about Haunted Mansion, I didn't know that. The storyline for Pirates is what I was told during training by my trainers when I worked there at Magic Kingdom.

Your comments on Indi are unforgivable. Please take it back. JK mostly. I've been to both parks loved both but Disneyland is better because it's smaller but just as active, fun, and great history. But you are right Disney World can give more attention to theming and room to advance better in the future. Thanks for the different views from you both. Catching the end of the video. Dude lighten up DCA, girl thank you for sticking up for Incedicoaster and DCA. Goofy's flight school is unexpected and great. Also space saving picturesque like the other carnival rides. Thanks again.

Well one park is in a state that respects the rights of LGBTQIA+ people, women’s bodily autonomy and doesn’t ban books and the other park is in Florida. So out of principle I’ll only step foot in one.

Girl, don't let him talk you out of your opinion. I feel like she liked Disneyland more than he's letting her express sometimes. I get Disneyworld is your home park but as someone that's been to both recently I respectfully disagree & think that Disneyland is far superior. I guess "Walts Park," has a special place in my heart with all the tidbits & fun facts. I definitely loved Epcot & Animal Kingdom in your neck of the woods & wish I'd had at least another full week to experience all they had to offer. Thanks for the cute video. I get a kick out watching a 1st timer 😊

I've heard through the years that DL is more so-called charming, including from someone whose home park was not the MK in Orlando but DL in Tokyo. I originally thought larger dimensions meant better dimensions. But after seeing the very wide, landscaping-less walkways at Disney parks elsewhere, that alone affects the vibe of a park. However, things like the larger Disney castles in other parts of the world are obviously more whoa!-eye-catching grand. But the one in Shanghai is charmless, the one in Hong Kong is schizophrenic, the one in Paris (considered the best) is surrounded by so much lawn space it feels sort of off. But YMMV. One thing I definitely won't argue about is that DCA (built in 2001), even more so when compared with Disney's other park the opened in 2001 (DisneySea) is a major letdown. Its carnival-type rides several years ago should have all been removed, not just the Mailboomer.

@@backstagethoughts Hi, thank you for the video. I appreciate when fans share their true feeling about a park to compare my opinions with others. My 2-cents from as a random on the internet: Kenzie having diplomatic qualities and allowing you the space to elaborate on your thoughts is such an honorable trait that I feel most people just take for granted, especially in the western world. She allows people to feel heard and supported. However I don't think you reciprocated very well. You didn't ask her to elaborate on her opinions as much. If you didn't agree, you said "no" or "I don't think so" and ended the discussion on certain topics before it began. I don't think this is intentional btw, I think you're more extroverted with your feelings and candid with how you you express those feelings.

The big difference between the two areas is Disney World is a tourist destination first and foremost, where as Disneyland does get tourists it's largely a local park so when you do go after all the kids are back in school, when you go in the middle of the week you can get some of those fantastic days of just not having to wait too long on anything so you actually enjoy your day. My last trip to Disney World was back when paper fastpasses were still a thing THERE, and it was also "the off season" and there was none of that Lightning Lane garbage to screw things up and it was the most enjoyable trip I've had, but now... no way I'd ever want to go back.
