I lived the first 52 years of my life in Northern NJ, about 20 miles from Manhattan. Relocated to North Carolina during the pandemic and, I'm sure nothing like a native, but four years later I'm starting to understand what Amy is talking about here. I'm sure many southerners don't consider Raleigh "the real south", but for a lifelong Yankee it is. 🤣

I listened to this song when I was in Laramie on a bus trip to Oregon and I saw the spot he was left to die at and it gave me chills and always gives me chills to this day. This is my favorite song.

I hadn't heard of Rita Houston, somehow, before I heard this song last year. But call me crazy, but I can feel her energy through this song. Very warm energy. Amy Ray is a beautiful person and iconic as always. Also any song that rips on Giuliani can't be anything short of awesome.

As a progressive who lives out west, I have always found it really difficult to understand how you (and others) can continue to live there. Love ya Amy even if I don’t always agree w/some of your political stuff. Dig deeper my friend, in the trenches and do own due diligence (when critical thinking becomes uncomfortable) is where the facts/truth are. Since the over turn of Citizens United and Schmit Mundt Act, we the everyday people are getting screwed by many on both sides of the political machine. Should be more songs about our own worst human rights violations in illegal coercing and “mandating” experimental injections not properly tested, and they knew (Jane Smalls Pfzer UK testimony) that they would NOT stop infection nor transmission of lab created virus (gain of function). Fact, they also knew ahead of time that these were hazardous to humans (based on animal trials, and upon the data that they tried to hide from us for 75 yrs, recently released per court mandate). Known myocarditis (no such thing as “mild.”), 333% increase in cancer among young military soldiers (Lt Colonial Theresa Long), per testimony in 5 hour US Senate (Second Opinion hearing). The list of awful adverse problems (ADE, immune system suppression issues you can read for yourself on VAERS.gov, also Cleveland Clinic results. Mult human rights violations per Nuremberg Code. We ALL are in the fight of our lives re: this. The other stuff is a diversion and divisiveness to keep us blinded to this. Won’t have to worry about a life or a job if injured or worse from the experimentals. 10 billion of our tax money used to push and deceive us. It’ll be interesting to see if anyone has the moxy in the community to write a song about that. Please keep well and dig deeper. ☮️ 💕

Amy - hats off to you for singing the truth about Jann Wenner for more than two decades. I've always loved this song and it's getting repeat listens today in the wake of Wenner's incredible NYT interview and the resulting fall-out. a crime it took this long for his true colors to make headlines and it's hardly justice but the sense of schadenfreude is real. louder for the people in the back! ps. hope you'll play it at the SF Fillmore in January

Back in the '90s, a remarkable woman named Rita walked into my life too. Dynamic and full of life, she remained steadfastly true to herself in a world where authenticity was often a rare gem. Those were times when homophobia clung to the music industry like a shadow, making Rita's unapologetic honesty even more extraordinary. Rita was more than just a presence; she was a force of nature. She championed artists and technicians within the queer community, standing up for us when the world was less accepting. It wasn't just talk for her either - her actions drove careers, mine included. It's almost impossible to fathom how many paths she helped shape. Thinking back, I realize that Rita was more than a guiding light; she was the catalyst for change in my life. She took my hand and steered me toward a better direction, one I might not have found on my own. To say I owe her a debt of gratitude would be an understatement. There's a depth of appreciation within me that words can't encapsulate. Now, she's no longer with us, but her memory persists, etched into the very fabric of those whose lives she touched. Rita, you may have left this world, but your spirit lingers on, a constant reminder of what it means to be unapologetically oneself. I'm grateful to Amy for weaving Rita's essence into a song. It's as if the melody carries a piece of all of us who were fortunate enough to know her. As I listen, I can't help but feel that Amy sang those lyrics for me too, for all of us whose lives Rita illuminated. Rest in peace, dear Rita. Your legacy is an enduring testament to your vibrant spirit, and your influence will echo through the ages. Thank you Amy.
