Rolex Datejust – Reference No. 116234
A timeless classic fit for all occasions, while common to some and iconic to others. And the one we have here reference number 116234, is probably one of the more unique and beautiful Date-justs recently made, sized at 36mm with a clean white dial in Roman numerals and iconic white gold fluted bezel and classic jubilee bracelet with a fully integrated strap buckle.
The date just was first introduced in 1945 as the Jubilee Date just, Reference 4467, and originally released with this five-piece metal link bracelet, which the has become a staple of Rolex, and was at first only available in 18-karat gold and in 36mm.
Now onto specifications, this 36mm, houses a 3135 automatic movement at 44.3mm lug to lug width and 20mm in strap width at 11.5mm thick (excluding the cyclops) providing for 100 meters of water resistance covered in sapphire glass.
ThIs jubilee bracelet with solid and high polished links, when flipped around almost serves has a beautiful piece of jewellery and personally, is the favourite version of the jubilee simply because of the plush buckle design with a Rolex logo gives it a very you unibody and integrated feel , where I have even seen worn loosely or on the other side. Since we are discussing how bracelets are worn, just a quick tip for those who prefer to wear their bracelets either tight or loose, from a maintenance perspective steel bracelets that are worn loose have the general tendency for more wear and tear, as the extra space gives way for more stretching and tension
My general feeling about this watch is it’s very simplistic and suitable for those that appreciate Rolexes original design and roots. A more interesting point of discussion is the case size of watches which have generally trend from big to small and small to big and now recently more regularised in terms of sizes going between 36 to 40 mm, while day-dates and date justs have always been faithful to their origin, consistently offering the 36mm since their introductions. However my recommendation is always to select watches that fits you, while fashion trends may come, a watch that fits your wrist will be something you prefer to wear, and will always be a timelesss choice.
Some of the disadvantages of this particular model is the lack of lume for legibility in the darker and low light situations, as I suspect, to give way for the Roman numerals and an outer ring if you were to compare with other date just or sportier models. When comparing this to the oyster bracelets the jubilee bracelets sits much closer to the wrist with much smaller links lengths and allows closer fit and greater ventilation, but the style and the look is up to you personal preference. Actually the businessmen who requested this watch were Portuguese, hence the name
I kept my eyes on this piece for years and elected to pull the trigger as soon as I learned it was discontinued. It’s spectacular. The blue dial is stunning. The case is NOT the same case as the yellow gold version or the stainless models. The lugs are symmetrical and curve downward. It’s actually quite similar to the new 2023-2024 redesigned case. It’s a perfectly proportioned and beautiful watch in every way!
All of the more recent precious metal Daytonas, including the ones on the Oysterflex share the same case design with the symmetrical lugs. The most recent steal Daytonas also have very similar case design, if not identical. The newest Daytonas do have a different case back design.
One can tell that you put a lot of effort into this video. Extremely nicely done. Superb videography. Deserves more views!

I have a 1990, best daily watch on the planet! I see yours also has the seconds hand with the lume pip slightly further towards the end of the hand than the typical seconds hand. I see this occasionally in the early 90s but not really after 1995 or so. I with this made our watches slightly more valuable 🤣 Maybe we need to nickname these "error seconds hand" versions haha

I think this is a gorgeous watch. I have an opportunity to buy one but I’m worried about it holding its value. I have a stainless and black that keep increasing in value. What do you think about value of two tone?

How do you shorten the length of the band. It seems hard and complicated.
It’s quite difficult and another reasons why I think this strap has design flaws. You will need to actually tug quite hard and risk stretching the hole, so I do not suggest changing the length often. Hope that helps!

I have the watch and it’s way better in person. I like it more and more the longer I’ve owned it. I also own the platinum and those are my 2 favorite Daytonas, even though the yellow gold green dial gets all of the hype.

A Man and His Watch ... a nice introduction to wrist watches, but this book has a lot of mistakes, here're three examples: Page 82: Edmund Hillary wore a Rolex on the top of Everest. I have been desiring this watch since its release date back in 2013. Last February I finally got one of these and words cannot describe how beautiful, Technical yet elegant it looks with a leather strap. This is a speedy on steroids.

I have this watch with black dial and white sub dials! This gets a lot of attention whenever I wear it; not many people know what it is and fewer have ever seen it.
Ready for this? My Local AD Was Smash and Grabbed the Rolex Case Last October "All Expedition watches" . But the thieves Missed One Piece. They Literally left the Best for ME! 326934 Blue Sky Dweller AT RETAIL! The Only Draw Back? No Papers which means the 5 Year Warranty is through the Store and No Extra Links. How detrimental to the Value would you say it is not to have Papers and the extra links? Thanks for the Great Vids!
Wow….it always good to get retail. I’m not a market specialist but I’m thinking you will loose around a quarter of the market value, but if it’s for your self wear and it fits already, the paper is not really critical, as long as you know it’s brand new and a trusted AD👍
