Nice video, I’m building the same engine and it’s ready for a steam test. However for some reason I’m nervous to give it a go.
good stuff!!
So satisfying to watch! You made it look really easy :D
Thank you.
Very interesting. I haven't got a steam engine but I can appreciate the time and effort that goes into getting a working scale steamengine to this standard. True Engineering. Cheers
They take a lot of maintenance indeed. Thanks.
You made that look so easy. Very Nice Job. Cheers
Thanks.
Brilliant!! That was a much needed upgrade! 😅 I’d have to say, I was left on the edge of my seat waiting for the testing of this fire grate. I look forward to that soon!!
Yes was not the best ending to a video.
@@tandb it just got me excited for the next video. 😉
Looking good mate.
Thankyou.
Very interesting. I learnt a lot. Well done.
great video and well narrated thanks for uploading
Thankyou. 😃
The “controls” in cab look so intricate! I remember basic Mamod models when I was a kid, much simpler. Do a vid explaining the operating procedure?
The controls looks more complicated then they actually are. I will sort out a video for sure. Thanks.
Brilliant!! I’m happy you got the issue sorted. I can’t wait to see more videos of it running. x
Thanks boo.
🥰😍🤩
Fantastic 3" Burrell traction engine. Great repair job. Thank you for sharing with us.
No worries. Glad you enjoyed the video.
nicely done.
Thanks. Your advice in the process was of course key to the success.
Very interesting, and you certainly are a patient person to manufacture all the individual parts. Looking forward to the next video, Cheers
Excellent video and I saw the end build first, and when I viewed this the first part in the build I just have to see them all. I didn't realise how much work was required to make this engine. I'm very impressed. To me this is proper engineering. Thanks for sharing. Cheers
The fact they take so long to build makes the editing process difficult. There is a thin line between making it look fast and easy skipping all the detail, and showing everything making the videos long and dull to watch.
Love the noise of this when chugging along slowley. Will certainly be checking out the build. Cheers
Brings back memories of my Mamod steam engine I had lets say lots of years ago. Impressed with the build and operation of this engine. Love the individual personalisation you did with this one. Enjoyed watching Cheers
Thanks. I have some Mamod steam engines to restore. Planning to get a video series of that up by the end of the year. I too remember playing with them for hours as a child, many great memories with family.
Hi. I'm in the process of making it myself now. I can get it to run on an aquarium air pump at less than 1 PSI. You Tube deleted my post if I incluse the link to the video clip in the cloud.
If YT just include the end part of the link after the first equals sign. For this video OjT3ePQpwyg&lc works for me. How you finding the build?
@@tandb Hi it was challenging as I only have a nasty Chinese mini lathe & no milling machine, but enjoyed it. Yhe video is in One Drive & YT deleted yhe comment even if I try to disguise it. I don't post to YT.

Great video. 👍 Nice cab pov's.
Thankyou. As usual with a head cam it was a case of point it in a direction and hope the framing is useable.
@@tandb 😅
Very interesting and enjoyable
Will have to get you cleaning the tubes.
Ideal beginners engine, very easy to build .
Agreed. Especially as there are no castings it is easy enough to make parts again if they don't turn out right.
Ahhhhh amazing!! quality work. I hope i can get out and finish mine soon
Thanks. I am excited to see your progress. Have you managed to get back to the workshop yet? Hope to catch up soon on the discord.
Very Impressive!! I love the whistle modification. Also, I bet your wife will be happy that you’ve cleaned up the mess. 😂
Cleanest running engine ever. 😀
Very cool indeed
Thankyou. I had a lot of fun learning how to silver solder boilers. I am happy that it runs well.
Good work, did you have difficulty with the boiler??
@@oldmanfrancis8528 no the boiler was fairly easy to make. Used oxyacetylene so was easy enough to get the metal hot enough for the silver solder to melt. Although I got it a bit too hot in a few areas which was a case of waiting for the area to cool for about 10 seconds and then reapply the silver solder.
That’s interesting, what sort of oxy acetylene kit did you use, did you video its construction?
@@oldmanfrancis8528 I do not have any video as I used the equipment at a local college. I don't have a powerful torch in my home workshop for silver soldering. I will film the process when I make the boiler for my 1" minnie.
I wanted to see it print 😂
It is surprisingly boring to watch printing once you have seen it a couple of times.
@@tandb I love it lol, sped up its great. I don’t have 3D printer anymore but when I did I loved watching it print too
Awesome the sort of thing I want to build
It is a lot of fun.
I wondered why you chose to use a 4 Jaw chuck?
In reality I am too lazy to change it over. Mostly because there are three hard to access nuts. Then when the three jaw goes on it is not an exact fit, so needs to be indicated and tapped with a hammer to run true. So I generally use whatever chuck is in the lathe unless the task makes me change it. The four jaw chuck has more of a grip on the work anyway, and once you get used to using it often it doesn't take long to dial it in.
Beautiful result T&B. Mucho appreciato for the shout out. And just so you know, all my advice is made up fiction. 🙂
Thanks
Nice work Man. So nice to see it running ☺️
Thanks. Kinda relieved myself considering I had doubts that it would run.
Great fun watch, so cool, loved the precision with the flywheel, looking forwards to watching the rest
😕 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙢𝙤𝙨𝙢
What does that mean?
Very nice work!
Thanks Irving.
Nice job T&B. Runs well. I wonder what the next projects going to be....Cheers Kevin
Thanks. I have started a minnie build long term, so that will be progressing. I will also be building more of these kits to help improve my skills. The risk factor with these kits are low because there are spare castings available at a reasonable price.
Congratulations! What a great running little engine. Now you should move on to the twelve valve, three cylinder 850 pound internal combustion solar powered engine!😁
Thanks. Ha ha, I think I will stick to trying to finish the minnie, that's more than complicated enough. Maybe IC is a possibility after that.
Very cool thanks for the video
Thanks for watching.
Runs very well, you must be pleased
Yes I find the sound most pleasing.
That runs really nicely. Good job.
Thanks. 👍
needs a boat..
👍👍👍Excellent for your first one. Now you are hooked on Steam and you will be building many more!
Thanks for watching. Yes I have so many ideas on things to make. 😊
That turned out very well indeed. I am looking forward to the video of it running. 👍
Thanks. Just recording it now.
This has come along well your next one will be easier and better.
Thanks. Hopefully the experience will help with the Minnie build.
Very good looking project. Can't wait to see it run. You've done a nice job.
Thankyou. I am pleased how it turned out.
Hello T&B, The engine looks great, you must be pleased with it... I was thinking that maybe you could have made a paper/cardboard template for the cylinder cover to get the size spot on... I like this little engine and might get myself one. Take care. Paul,,
I like that idea. I have another kit to build and will be trying the lagging template idea for sure. It's a fun engine to build especially because the kit is a reasonable price, and all parts are available as spares which really takes the pressure off. Would be excited to see how you tackle the build if you do decide to invest.
Looking good. I bet you're pleased with that, I would be.
Thanks. Yes I will be displaying it in my home to enjoy.
I’m jealous of the mill and lathe could I ask what models they are? I am building a 3 traction engine and must invest in a good setup. Thanks for uploading vids 👌
They are both brought in the UK from a company called Warco. The milling machine is a WM18 and I got them to upgrade it to have a three axis DRO which is worth doing. The lathe is a 280v and I also got the optional stands and chip trays. These were at the top of the weight range that I could move through the access that I had to my workshop. You get what you pay for and although these are ok, they really are at the hobby end of the scale. At college I use a "xyz trainer lathe" and it is beautiful to use and really well thought out in comparison. If you have the space and want to do this hobby for the rest of your life, I would suggest going for the heaviest machine that your funds will stretch too. If I had better access I would have brought a lathe that was at least double the price. Good luck.
Hello T&B, That turned out well... I guess (but don't know) with a steam engine it is to have the tolerances as good as possible but still allowing it to run... an enjoyable video, thank you. Take care. Paul,,
Thanks for checking out the video. I have a lot to learn about steam engines. But I am determined to get this one running as a start.
NOW someone makes a video on building one of these, after mine is 90% done. Still going to watch the whole series for tips.
I also noticed the lack of videos on this particular model. Remember this is the first engine I am building as a beginning so there may be better ways of doing some things. Thanks for following the journey.
It's taking shape! This is a great way to build up your skills. I should really have a go at something like this. I bought plans for a v twin engine, years ago and have never built it. It was far beyond my abilities at the time, but I'll take a look again at the plans and see if I'm ready to tackle it!
I would be interested in watching that. You will only know by giving it a go.
