As a millenial (32), these people turning these houses are stupid, and ripping off the poor people that are buying it. I don't think it's a millenial thing. I think it's specifically a influencer (and/or sometimes preppy) millenial thing. Historical style is what a lot of people are looking for, of all ages. These people are just trying to get attention. That's it. But they're hurting people in the long run. I feel bad for people that buy those homes, which have now been unnecessarily marked up well above their *actual* value and are going to have them fall apart in a year or two.

Yes!! Flipping is not only parasitic, it’s downright harmful to the point of being abusive or exploitative. It actively hurts first-time buyers. Flipping jacks up prices for no real value added, ruins so many beautiful vintage features and any system that financially rewards renovations for being as cheap and rushed as possible will only hurt long term owners who just want a house to live in. Flippers are like some factory owner who knowingly dumps toxic chemicals into the local water supply, and could not care less…because it pays them more. And just like polluting businesses, they need to be regulated and reined in.

Bottom line: It is more expensive to build a new house with modern fixtures whereas it is much cheaper to buy an older house that has not been updated and updated not just tens of thousands of dollars cheaper but many tens of thousands of dollars cheaper sometimes hundreds of thousands of dollars cheaper.
