    Nice episode guys! Don't think Ehlers or Necas gives you anything you can't get from Berggren, who will be a ton cheaper. Both Ehlers and Necas are very inconsistent wingers that generally do not play much D, same as Berggren at the NHL level. That said, I think in some combination of trade chips including Copp, Holl, Berggren, Veleno and Husso need to be marketed. In return, I would look at the likes of Eriksson Ek from Minnesota even if it means a deal sweetener draft pick beyond the trade chips. I would also look to sign Marchessault as a free agent. If they cannot land one of the three goalies you mentioned (Marksstrom, Ullmark or Saros), a one year deal for any of the top 5 goalie FA's will get you through the year. Just my 2 cents.

      @GrindLinePod coming off a serious ACL injury he was/is one of the very best in the A, unbeatable in the playoffs thus far, and his only real hiccup all season was when Grubaur went down and he was recalled to sit for more than month in Seattle, due to Daccord's brilliant yet unsustainable stretch. that he was in the AHL most of the season is relevant how? My point is he's made it back, shown that he's capable of sustaining a high workload and should be in the conversation for low risk (shouldn't be too expensive/short term) high reward (assumes he's back to 100%) options.

    My two cents about Burger is as usual. His window of opportunity was last year's edition of RW. His big challenges are twofold, being too good for the AHL and his lack of two-way play. I usually state that RW has actually abused his career by letting him go up and down. If I were Burger, I would have chosen to find a new home in the NHL and that is what I have mentally prepared myself for. No one questions his technique or having a nose for getting into dirty blue surfaces. Can he replace Perron today! Absolutely not as Perron is still ELIT at the things he does so very well, along the board. There is a vacancy as Sprong does not have a contract. Here, Burgren's weaknesses actually speak to a slight improvement as Sprong is extremely puck-watching. However any other team gets more points out of Sprong as he has consistently done that, Burger has not done that yet in NHL. Burger's future contract may be similar to Sprong's, which I personally always considered to be on the low side for the plus points that Sprong actually does annually with very little ice time. However, I think it is possible to teach Burger to play a better two-way game than what 27-year-old Sprong has learned throughout his career. For me who loves Sprong, I have always been extremely surprised that He, who is Dutch and moved to Canada at a very young age, did not learn the most fundamentals of defensive play. So the question for me is who to blame! Is it the person Sprong or a mix of person and the system that RW and other teams use that is the real problem?

    • @DTA555.
      @DTA555. Před 28 dny

      I think Bergs should ask for a trade, I don’t blame him for not signing a contract and SY saying they have to make the Roster is the most obvious choice if Bergs wants to go. He has been better than Ras and Veleno and you don’t pay a player as much as Ras got for PK. He was misused by KH and should have been in Junior and I think SY needs to play the Prospects that are ready before he keeps signing FAs and not being able to give them experience because they won’t be able to keep being in the playoffs if they can get there without giving them experience and I would be letting them sit if they have a bad game and keep playing them so they get it. Enough of the Perron who is not a top six player and if resigned and Kane doesn’t resign they need to have a player to help the youth.

      Good take for sure. I agree with most of your perspective. I would also like to add, we should stop developing everyone the same....expecting the scoring forwards to play defence and expecting the defence to play offence. There are some players that just fit a specific role and thats' it. We are asking too much from every single player in our system. I guess that's the team SY wants to build, but I would like to see some talent just play out and develop within their talent instead of being put in to a box.

How tf is he going to get experience when he doesn’t get a chance to play in the NHL. I would love to watch the youth Develop that are ready to play in the NHL than watch the same FA signings that are not Guaranteed a playoff spot. I don’t know how he expects to trade players unless he is giving away picks ect. He is following KHs playbook, over ripe the Prospects until they are waiver exempt and if they don’t have what he wants then he is going to trade them. I think Bergd is going to ask for a trade unless he is Guaranteed a roster spot and SY said that him and Johansson would have to earn it. I don’t know what else he expects they are doing their job and he is expecting the youth to change their game but vets are okay if they are not a Defensive Player. It’s bs and him and Newsey are Hypocrites. He says what fans want to hear but he is going to load up on FA players because he thinks making the playoffs which is not Guaranteed and expecting the young players to come in when he wants them too and thinks they are going to be ready to continue the playoff run if they did get in, they need to get the chance to get experience and go with a real rebuild and these other teams in the playoffs have been bringing up the young players and they are playing well. Dallas for one. Vancouver ect. The only team that is not is Detroit because SY thinks they need a couple to 3 years in the AHL but he is going to lose some of those players because they are going to see what is going on and either ask for a trade or go back overseas for more money than GR pays. I don’t want to see them ruined because if they are ready and playing better than half the roster they are still going to be sent back. He is going to put contract in front of them. This season could be worse than last season because of the cap and players to sign.

    TLTR - Axel Sandin Pellikka joined Skellefteå AIK's junior operations in the 2019/20 season from Malmbergets AIF. Malmberget is located in the northern part of Sweden and is 180 miles from Tomas Holmström's home district, Piteå. What is there to do in (Gällivare)? You will find fantastic nature and darkness and cold and sports and mining. Certainly something more of value, but not something I attach value to as I'm from Gothenburg (Raz's hometown). In January 2023, ASP signs a contract with Skellefteå AIK. The contract with ASP extends from now until the end of the 2024/25 season. The plan (The Y-plan) has always been for ASP to remain in the SHL for an extra year. A week ago he then signed an ELC contract with RW and S.Y has already stated that ASP will remain in the SHL until 24/25. ASP is invited to be present during this year's RW camp. This offer gives RW & ASP the opportunity to introduce him to the RW organization in depth and us fans to see where he stands against his peers. ASP will go back to Sweden and finish his contract with Skellefteå. There is of course a small possibility that he will take a place in RW, however, that possibility is minimal, I give him 5-10%. It is a bigger possibility "on paper" that ASP will come over to e.i AHL if Skellefteå does not make it particularly far in the playoffs season 24/25. It is very unlikely that Skellefteå will be eliminated in the first round as the team is very good. As a fan of Frolunda, I certainly hope they do so and btw - Congrats on the championship though. It is true that the SHL starts before the NHL, but it is no obstacle for ASP to go over to the camp this year. The other advantage is also that the NHL and AHL start later if Skellefteå does not manage to advance :P, so here is the opening and it is very clear that S.Y has planned to use parts on ASP ELC to be able to plan what the next step is for him. By the fact that RW has an ELC with ASP, it means that all three parties agree on the content over the coming year, since ASP has a double contract. RW has a very well-developed collaboration with most SHL teams, Skellefteå AIK is no exception here. Staying in Skellefteå is nothing negative, but only positive. As he is 19 years old and still needs to develop. In a very short time, he has gone from being an U18 player to being in the SHL permanently. He has had competition for his place in the year 23/24, however, it has already been decided that player will leave Skellefteå for the NHL. Which then means that ASP will take his place at 99%. Many people do not knew that ASP has actually played a whole year on the wrong side (left). Next season will thus be his first in Skellefteå where he will be in his natural place, namely the right side. As we in Sweden have a larger ice surface than the NHL/AHL, the "sides" do not play such a big role here. But It is also very positive that ASP has spent a whole year on the wrong side, as he develops his body in a completely different way as certain movements can be perceived as unnatural for a player on D. As his future colleague, he gets the team's best defender and veteran by far and that player has all the experience that will transfer to ASP in close cooperation with RW of course. This is where RW's current staff comes into place in Sweden and it gives them the best opportunity to be continuously present on site around ASP. Media and Fans should not underestimate what a few months on an ELC can give RW as an organization for advantages in their own planning. So RW Camp this year will be a toll to convey what he needs to focus on in the next 12 months. At the moment I give ASP a 5-10% chance of taking a seat in RW in the next 12 months. Most likely he will do a year in the GR (AHL) once he's over. And if it turns out like this. We shouldn't see it as negative, but completely in line with what RW as an organization usually does, namely give time for young people to mature and ern the spot in the rosters. We use the same idea in Sweden when it comes to young people at this age.

Kasper is a player who is good at getting under the opposition and agitateing them he goes to the rough areas and I hope he shows more offensive skills. I know he can score goals but he needs to do both. Those two and Mazur are going to be good players and they need to get experience, they have the offense and Defensive depth, kasper is a player who will hit and Grind. You figure with Edvinson on the defense and Johanson cant be sent down to the AHL without waivers, thats 8 defenseman on the roster for next year. Their would have to be a huge roster change to fit in another d man with a trade or signing, i cant see where they do 8 defenseman on the roster, but i guess it could be done with only 2 goalies on the game day roster. Regardless, it ought to be an interesting offseason for Yzerman and how he puts the roster together and how he fits in under the cap with Lucas and Seider big money contracts coming in.

    Beyond Bergers,Johanson, and Edvinson, the first two dont have waiver exempt, i dont see any young prospects making the team. Yzerman is gonna have to prove his comment about younger players forcing themselves on the roster. After not bringing Edvinson up for most of the season, he has to prove it. He also has to prove he isnt going to do the Holland approach and fill the roster up with veteran players. We shouldve had some prospects on the team this year, for our teams overall development. To me, it looks like our prospects our over ripening like Holland used to do.

      @@wingnut69 that was my point. Yzerman painted himself in a corner with that comment. It didnt help that the d stayed healthy most of the season nor did it help that Holl wasnt playing. It also didnt help that the team was just horrible defensively. Simon shouldve made the roster out of training camp if not for the roster being chuck full of vet dman. It doesn't make sense to punish a team for winning in o.t. why does that count less, because its 3v3, ok then go back to 5v5 and call a win a win, either that or get rid of points for losses and just count wins, I don't care if it doesn't benefit the wings in future seasons, as a fan id be emabarassed to have my team be a minus 20, have less wins than other teams that dont get in and get bounced easily in the first round, i get what the NHL is doing, but if you take away the points for losing you'd make games more competitive all season long, and you wouldn't have teams barely getting in due to technicalities only to be completely non competitive in the playoffs, which is the time the NHL should be most concerned about competitive games as the playoffs bring about more viewers, as even casuals are more likely to watch playoff games over regular season games. Terrible strategy from the NHL, but I wouldn't expect anything else from this horribly run league that doesn't protect players from being boarded and punishes players from helping to slow down guys who are running other players in the boards, this is why players have hated bettman since before I started watching this atrociously run league.

      @@GrindLinePod you'd still be rewarding teams for losses, makes it less competitive because if they get to o.t. then there's not a high enough priority to play hard in o.t. especially if you give only one more point for the wing, the league needs highly competitive games to drive up revenue. Id like to know how well teams that win o.t. games do in the playoffs, I bet they fair better than teams that coast in the playoffs and settle for the one point difference.
