They never tried to replace frank, it was like many others in the past a adaptation to break up the flow. Long time fan of the character and I've seen this done before, just like those times Mt prediction was "this will be fun until we get back to frank" no fear or doubt about it, and like with each time before (frankencastle, war machine, a angel, 2099, one eye bearded 20 years younger, last man on earth, black, a mobster, easily brain washed by the jackal and so on) comics appealing to the youth isnt new either as its how we even had a 90s era of comics treasured by the ones complaining about current runs forgetting the old heads who did the same when they started reading. I think the best explanation short of plot armor is who Ghost Rider was working with at the time and a line Doctor Strange uttered about Ghost Rider vs. Worldbreaker Hulk. Doctor Strange said Ghost Rider avenges and protects the innocent, and that was why Ghost Rider wouldn't take on Hulk at the time, because the people Ghost Rider would have to defend from Hulk were *not* innocent in Strange's own words. Hulk was avenging the wrongs committed on him by the Illuminati of Marvel Comics. Fast Forward to the incident Punisher was hit with the Penance Stare in question. As some pointed out, he had a plot-device in his back pocket to help, but further, Ghost Rider was trying to defend the Thunderbolts, particularly General Ross/Red Hulk, who again, was not an innocent man since he did literally try to murder Punisher before Ghost Rider fought him. And one thing not discussed is the time Ghost Rider literally vaporized an angel with the stare (unintentionally) just because the angel tried to lie to him about the nature of his powers. I conclude it's less the feather, and more that Frank was protected by the fact that he was actually the *more* innocent party than the person the Rider was trying to avenge. But the feather did definitely play a role as it was shown Frank is not entirely immune to the stare without one.

I honestly believe that Marvel's explanation on why the Punisher doesn't kill Kingpin is a cop out. Simply saying, "If I kill you, someone worse will take your place." seems weak to me. The Punisher's whole motif is constantly killing criminal chains until he works his way to the top only to repeat the process indefinitely. BY not killing Fisk, Frank is spitting on his entire motivation for becoming the Punisher, because how many families has Fisk either destroyed or extorted?

As someone who enjoys seeing Wolverine and the Punisher smoke their opps outright, I tend to side more with that mentality. Though, I do see that in some cases Daredevil's (passive) mentality is a better option. There have been many times when reading Spider-Man and Daredevil comics I've wondered why they don't just kill their antagonists like Green Goblin and Kingpin since they're such irredeemable characters, I wish Marvel would make an exception for some characters to kill.

I thank you for this lore, but it leaves me with one question - how is the Punisher so skilled in all these forms of hand-to-hand combat + military training, yet he still always loses to Daredevil when it comes to fist fighting?

I remember running the M60 on Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4. Its firing rate is so slow its relatively easy to do headshoits if you are used to the sights.

The main fuel for the Penance Stare is the Fear and Guilt of the crimes they’ve committed. Frank had no guilt and zero fear.

Maybe Frank doesn't have any guilt to begin with. Maybe he KNOWS that he doesn't hurt innocents directly. In the Corman movie with Dolph Lundgren, he spoke to God all the time trying to reason out his war on criminals. Maybe the Ghost Rider is limited to spiritual boundaries and his victims MUST be consciencless KILLERS or perps who DON'T have a grasp of care or belief. Frank being a Catholic, and a believer would understand that there's right and wrong. That gives him a conscience, and a conviction that taking out the bad-guys ACTUALLY saves INNOCENTS, which would limit Ghostriders penance stare. He's bound by laws of spituality, which The Punisher ISN'T, because he's working against spiritual EVIL, despite being a KILLER.
