Tried one at guitar center, compared it to a Lucero 250 and they were nearly identical in tone/volume.

I'm pretty sure he made it for his mate Neil Finn to use with his AC30 when they were both in Split Enz in the 70s. Neil still has it on his board.

Just bought this exact model about two hours ago. Visited a music store just to browse a bit and didn't really expect to find a guitar I loved, but there it was, used in fact, hanging on the wall. Played it for about two minutes, made up my mind, and brought it home with me.

I got this guitar over one I think was called idk I think it’s wrong the fusion? Something in that. This one I got a few years later Happy with it, it’s like my dads guitar but a lil thinner, that other guitar was super thin, and made me play faster, but it didn’t get a feel I wanted. ( some guitars make me play differently) Both actually sounded great, so I know to check out these guys again…But I wanted a guitar To feel a certain way, wish I could afford both to be honest. Love this guitar and will never sell it, I’ll pass it on eventually, but it’s just amazing.

Amazing video Ben. I just bought this guitar and the pickups are a bit more dark then my previous strat. May ask about your pickup height? Did you leave them factory? Are the pretty close to the string or pretty low?

I bought a GK pro to use for electric gigs. I did not expect it become my main classical guitar but could not help loving it. It is just a fabulous instrument all the way around. I'm so proud that after 2 years it has honest to goodness wear marks on the fretboard from playing. Thats how much i have ended up playing it....several hours a week. If you need a silent guitar for work, I have a cubicle, the Yamaha silent guitar nylon version is a great choice. I now look forward to zoom meetings as i can wear one headphone for the guitar and one for the meeting, mute my meeting mic and practice instead of being supremely bored.

Do you have any EQ suggestions for playing this guitar in louder venues? Mine sounds tremendous for small gigs but itnis dofficult to get a great sound at loud volumes.

😆You completely misunderstood the problem. NOBODY EVER had a problem with boosting the volume on a clean amp. The famous solo boost problem only appears when you play an already cookin' tube amp. It compresses already so that no boost or EQ will be able to lift the volume, it will only distort/compress even more. There simply is nowhere to go volume-wise. It's like trying too jump in a room in which your head is already touching the sealing. ....Try your "trick" with an REAL amp at the verge of breakup, it will not work. ...There are some ways around it but neither of those is a perfect/true solution.

Great to see this! I have known Paul since his early days in Split Enz and had one of the first run of Hot Cakes back in the 70's. It's the only OD / Distortion I needed live and in the studio. Currently using the new Double Hot Cake, which offers 3 distinct combinations at the touch of your foot 😀

I feel like the point of this pedal is to run it so hot and broken that it’s blooming just on the edge of a fuzz Yet it’s still technically an overdrive pedal. That’s the niche with this thing. The gently broken clean does actually sound super nice too. But I’d probably prefer a Klon sound for that.

Well I'm a fan of Mark Knopfler to but i never heard him use any kind of fuzz/overdrive pedal! He only use Morley volume pedal and an MXR Analog Delay

Thanks for sharing Ben! Big fan of the SA Collider too and I also control the repeats with expression. You'll have to try using an expression knob box instead of a foot pedal. It was a great space saver for my board and much easier to dial in a specific level.

You are using the EQ wrong !

Just a history on Marks sound that not to many people are aware of- 1- after the band DS went into a commercial direction he wanted a Billy Gibbons dirt & scratch sound. 2- he even contacted Billy prior to the release of ‘money for nothing’ and asked Billy himself how he got his sound to which Billy laughed and told him ‘no.’ it was at that time that Mark Koffler changed his sound to the current sound. He has today different than the early Dire Straits records. You can find that story in guitar player magazine.

Didn't sound so great, sorry. I have this pedal and it's low-end chug is what makes the pedal great, wasn't present here.
