Honestly, I don't like the way he sings "Gethsemane". It's also strange to see him standing there like that, so gestureless and without any physicality... By the way, I also think that Ted Neeley is overrated. And before anyone gets upset: I know something about theater, singing and acting. IT IS SURPRISING TO SEE THE ACTRESS MELISSA O´NEIL IN THE CHORUS. SHE IS PRETTY😍😍

I love the grit that's already present in his voice before the high note. Most other Jesuses have a softer, more ethereal voice before that point. Nolan's interpretation is especially humanizing, yet doesn't take away from the belt at all.

Out of all the different versions of JCSS I saw, Lee Siegel Is my favourite Simon Zealotes. Power is having such voice. You've got the power and the glory my friend 🤩

Everyone's on and off about Paul Nolan(who is the focus here of course), but what does everyone think about having Judas standing in the background like that?! Like, you can see the subtle sense of guilt and half realization in his face, as if inside he saying "Oh my god........ he's farther way than even I imagined". He always knew that Jesus was letting the martyrdom the crowds placed on him get to his head, but watching Jesus call to merciful God that he will endure some(in Judas's mind) surely figurative painful end must've really got to Judas there. He's already internally conflicted about the moral vagary of his means to try and protect Jesus, himself, the apostles, and the community from possible Roman annihilation, but it seems he's now starting to realize what's really going on here with Jesus might be bigger than he previously thought(which he ultimately does come to realize in the end, that he was merely a pawn in God's foul bloody crime towards his "only son", and kills himself over guilt). I think Josh Young(Judas) perform this segment beautifully, and this overall direction really gets to the heart of the whole show's narrative being from Judas's perspective, that HE was the only one who really understood these events for how they pretty much were, not just what is written in the Gospels by Jesus's own blind Heaven-minded followers. Also, on an extended side note, I think this is the first direction/performance of this song where we see Jesus with an actual "cup(a bowl by contemporary standards, sure) of poison" that he drinks from. Like Jesus is now trying to maintain the symbolic loyalties of remembrance, which he earlier tried to impart onto his followers(this wine could be my blood, this bread could be my body), to himself in this deeply personal moment for him(reframed by himself as between him and God, of course)! What do all of you guys think? :)

I like his voice as it has strength. Some renditions of this song are quite weak. The best? Ian's and Ted's.

Wow there must not be any very good singers out there anymore... Anyone can blow while they’re standing still?.. I wanna see you pull those octaves off while Incorporating some real movement and acting like the real show requires! I’ve done this role and anybody can sing standing still.

I thought I'd preface my comments by first stating that I thought Paul Nolan gave a great performance. That said, I am not an expert nor am I a musician. And I love Ted Neely. OK, until Paul got to the WHY he was extremely mechanical in his presentation. From WHY on he displayed powerful emotion until the second part of the song. There his very quiet voice was drowned out by the instruments. I would love to see the entire performance live. Ciao
