Inside an enchanting Modernist House discreetly tucked away in Long Beach, California | House Tour
Erik and Mayumi had spent a long while searching for their dream Modernist home, one that captured the essence of a bygone era while offering unique architectural charm. Their journey took them through numerous open houses-Eichler's and Cliff May’s-and endless listings, each one falling short of their vision. That changed when they stumbled upon a hidden gem designed by Leopold Fischer for Dr. Ward Youry, a relatively unknown yet brilliantly talented architect whose work had recently been rediscovered. The house, with its clean lines, expansive windows, and organic integration with the surrounding landscape, was the perfect blend of history and artistry they had always dreamed of.
This architectural masterpiece not only met their aesthetic desires but also provided a deep sense of connection to the past. Once they purchased it, Erik and Mayumi embarked on a passionate renovation journey, meticulously preserving the original features in the home and studio while carefully updating it for modern living. The renovation became a labor of love, transforming the house into a stunning fusion of past and present, a testament to their commitment to preserving architectural history while creating a warm, welcoming home.

Too bad it's in long Beach. There's people there that are chomping at the bit to get in there and rob you.
Its not a beautiful house but its interesting and eccentric.
Such a pleasant and well made video. It's a charming house and I really enjoyed the owner's narration.
What sort of matt is being used as a rug in the dining room?
Lovely house xx
So stunning and it has a ton of history but without feeling pretentious.
Love this house and the thoughtful owners.
I wish this guy had talked to Chris Pratt an Katherine Schwarzenegger who just demolished that classic Elwood home. Homes and architecture like these need to be preserved and cared for. This is such a cool interesting space
Stunning place, id trim the landscaping back at the entry. It's a bit overwhelming and takes away from the place. Makes it look overgrown
Beautiful home, and every detail is lovingly placed.
Beautiful property.
That garden is just perfect and just by my likings! Its a beautiful house
The black lines with the colors are reminiscent of color blocking. Color blocking was a popular design in the 1960s in clothes. IMO the black is perfect for the era.
.....yeah, but honestly, what about the rest of the grounds and house
Floor to ceiling glass is a feature I have always lusted after.
lol California no thanks
lots of mcm homes by Eichler in Orange County CA
I am poor. I watch this. And i cry..😭😭
The cactus on the poolside is magnificent
Is that a 300GD?
Where can I find the floor plan for this home?
I can’t unsee that enormous electricity mains pylon right tf in your garden. No wonder it wouldn’t sell
Cheap at 685k ha 😅
I find the colors depressing.
Just beautiful -- the house and its story. What a legacy.
I do believe that a house can find you and hearing you were the only offer and your buyer waited for you to get the green light, it feels like it was meant to be <3 I'm sure your home is as happy as you are!
such a great space, vibe, human
With so much sun in Southern California, too bad you didn’t have solar and power walls.
Definitely track house looking. And Brady Bunch decor.
Yet another word salad of bullshit to justify another cheap, hideous, "modern" monstrosity.
I see some Gerrit Thomas Rietveld influence as well.
Perfect. Thank You.
Everyone mocks the suburban family of the 50's, at the same time touting the design of all things midcentury it as chic.
Anyone know the nam/artist of the painting over the sofa?!
I would like to see some palm trees of varying specie.
The cypress are an interesting embellishment too
It looks like it would be a naturally cool place 😅
Too dark, needs woods, copper, raw aluminium just anything! Needs bright colour features. That dark on the fence and outdoor area is oppressive!
A beautiful and classic home. ❤
This is a hidden treasure
Total awesome! Love the lines and light.
looks like a public urinal from the outside
Is there a list of Schindler houses?
I am amazed to hear someone explain the feelings that can be shared from a lovely home where design and a sence of space has been so well done. That is also why i feel sad for people that can't see this and think that living in a white on white box is what makes them happy. It's because they live a life with there eye's and senses closed.

I like "leftism" in very rich neighborhoods of LA
amazing home - I love this so very much. Wish there were no shoes worn in the home but that's just me. :)
love love love. Took me 3 hours one day to get down to Long Beach from the West SFV - thought I wanted to kill myself but LB is a great vibe. Clapping hands for the way the plants indoor and out are so sculptural. I really should give those little cane palms another shot. Such a good look.
No personal privacy in this home for any of the occupants. Not a family home.
Honestly, some things are also not my style but I like to finally see a mod house that is not a "period correct" time capsule or museum or whatever, but a HOME to actual people is refreshing
