- Erik and Mayumi had spent a long while searching for their dream Modernist home, one that captured the essence of a bygone era while offering unique architectural charm. Their journey took them through numerous open houses-Eichler's and Cliff May’s-and endless listings, each one falling short of their vision. That changed when they stumbled upon a hidden gem designed by Leopold Fischer for Dr. Ward Youry, a relatively unknown yet brilliantly talented architect whose work had recently been rediscovered. The house, with its clean lines, expansive windows, and organic integration with the surrounding landscape, was the perfect blend of history and artistry they had always dreamed of.
This architectural masterpiece not only met their aesthetic desires but also provided a deep sense of connection to the past. Once they purchased it, Erik and Mayumi embarked on a passionate renovation journey, meticulously preserving the original features in the home and studio while carefully updating it for modern living. The renovation became a labor of love, transforming the house into a stunning fusion of past and present, a testament to their commitment to preserving architectural history while creating a warm, welcoming home.

Floor to ceiling glass is a feature I have always lusted after.
So much character, the textures, the lighting...Homes had such a impact back then. So warm and inviting. I hope when im older there will still be houses like this.

This wood paneling interior, the spacious layout inside the house, the old Californian Beetle with its roof rack, the trees, the exterior of the house, the neighborhood, the sunlight, and the blue sky are so 70s. This time capsule is what I love.
Very serene! If I was fortunate enough to live there, I'm not sure I'd get much done because I'd be blissed out all the time.😂 The VW bug just completes the total aesthetic.✅

What a cool and unique home! I found the studio to be the most interesting part of the home - what a wonderful look and vibe to it. I also love all the natural light throughout the rest of the home. In addition, Erik was wonderful to listen to - he is easily one of my favorite homeowners from this series.
I wish this guy had talked to Chris Pratt an Katherine Schwarzenegger who just demolished that classic Elwood home. Homes and architecture like these need to be preserved and cared for. This is such a cool interesting space

I love this house, I like listening to him speak of the house and I understand and appreciate the need to keep the studio pristine...personally, I wouldn't allow even family to stay there.
G'ah! All the lines of this home pull you into the negative space in such a terrifyingly appealing way. lol. It's mezmerizing. Beautiful in its deceptive simplicity. It's fun how this home can seemingly play against nature with its mid-century "modernity" and yet its inherent openness, in truth, embraces nature lovingly and sets it free to play in its midst. We rarely embrace this level of simple humility in the face of nature when designing living spaces in the present. These homeowners are blessed. Great video. :)

The way the living room has two floor to ceiling/wall-to-wall windows that let light in all day through sunset; and have lights on the OUTSIDE of the ceiling to illuminate the living room from the outside in is the most indoor/outdoor romantic subtle design achievement I have ever seen.

This is so beautiful, it took me back in time. Such a serene space to come home to after work, or being out all day. It reminds me so much of my cousin’s houses in the 70’s, I always loved the wall paneling and interesting windows. People decorated with so much more color back then.

Good house, great owners, nice to have it appreciated. But best is seeing the original Max Bill Olympics poster again along with other works of his. It was always my favorite of the entire series of 1972 posters. (I have the Vasarely.) And a Black and Orange CA license plate on a real VW bug - the kind where your fingers can touch the windshield from the steering wheel! How did you get that personalized?

I love ❤️ everything on your beautiful home so classic with style love those trees 🌳. We had a beautiful tree on the front of our current house. Almost 2 years ago a young teenager was intoxicated drunk & sinceour house is right in front of a stop sign in our neighborhood well he didn't stop 😳 went straight full speed broke our beauty tree instantly. The goid thing he was ok but what get so mad was the fact that if our tree was not there his car would of wwnt straight to my sons room front window. Thank god he was not there but because of that accident we decided to look for another houses. Safety is first so now we are trying to pay it off as soon as possible with houses right now r way too high on price yes we live in California & will never leave California

Beautiful back yard. Wish I was able to have a backyard like that but my house sits on a hill and has been a struggle to make it enjoyable.

This house is just like any house in Finland and most of Europe. The interior is very common, even my parents in law’s house interior is like that and exterior is more sturdy. Things last longer here because of better material same concept. I check out Artek furnitures and Alvar Aalto interior homes😊
I want to know what insulation feels like for that room. During the summer, I can't imagine it staying comfortably cool very easily if the sun passes through that glass.
