This is always what gets me about these petty tyrants in government. For the most part, if you just leave people alone, they wouldn't care what else you did while in power. Again: For The Most Part. So all these intrusive regulations and laws are just for spite: "I'm in power and you'll do what I say or else.". In other words, governments are run by middle managers who should never have power. Very rarely, do we ever have a real leader.

Overall I was actually disappointed in the book. In the book there was segregation of the males in females, In Robert's obsession with the female form was a little too much. The film does such a better job betraying a libertarian utopia than the book The horrors of war are portrayed in both the movies and the book, It has been no secret that within your training people will die. Even the physician who is doing the medical exam tries to warn Rico not to join. The news reporters are non-existent in the book, And the asteroid bombardment Is butter a brief Few lines. The only drama that's in the books is who is going to be stationed where and what's their parents thought about his decision, There's no normal drama like love interests, The only thing in the book that counted as any kind of romantic interest was when Carl recommended some young woman who he took out and basically spent all his money. The characters are not tied together at all which is what the movie actually did.

For anyone else interested in the dichotomy between Platonic and Aristotelian thought, Leonard Peikoff has a 50 part history of philosophy series that traces the divergence of the two schools throughout history on CZcams. He is an Objectivist but he does a fair treatment of the topic and explicitly states when he is speaking from an Objectivist POV. He is entirely biased towards Aristotle but is explicit about this bias making it easy to parse through it whereas most professors try to hide their bias by claiming a false position of impartiality. Anyone who is a fan of Dr. Michael Sugrue's lectures will most definitely appreciate Peikoff.

Population issues will never be fixed because people refuse to accept the reason for it. Instead they make up stuff like it's economics. The fact is women are the number 1 reason and it's only because they have no restrictions anymore with all of society, aka all men now taking care of them and nothing asked in return. With that, why should women care to think about anybody but themselves? And children get in the way of woman's own desires. And even when they have kids they push away the man because they think they can benefit from men without any responsibility to men. So then you have a next generation that is set up for failure and each generation gets worse than the last And nobody will ever hold them accountable. Feminism won. It destroyed the human race

I really get sick of this stuff saying one sex or the other is to blame. I think it's a mix, yes, the women shouldn't be using birth control as much (and I think abortion is murder) but the men need to work harder to be desirable. I'm not going to have a baby with a porn addict. It would be interesting to do a poll of women and ask them, "Would you have kids if you had a husband to provide for the kids?"

Therefore, TheAristocraticUtensil is wrong; the monarch will NOT save the nation. At least not by himself. A competent, confident, and free thinking public is more essential than any monarch. Top-down solutions have already been tried. It is time to give the bottom-up solutions, like the American Constitution as it was originally conceived, to take center stage. And that will require the return of the moral foundation of western civilizations; Christianity.

Not sure your parther would agree with you on Aristotle as the change candidate..He was a firm believer women were mentally inferior unlike Plato..Big on slavery too.even though Northern Europe had already figured out it had more downsides than upsides..The idea of banning it to due some concept of tribal or racial equality or dignity of mankind would have been dismissed out of hand..They left the morality out of it,treating the less than equal in or outside of the tribe with respect leads to better social cohension and necessary trade..We should adopt this unsentimental approach today..Leave them to sort out their own corruption at home and don't let them flee here..

I passed my eleven plus from a poor background and the Jesuits were big on Soctrates and Plato,my reading of the Republic, his equal acceptance of students from poor backgrounds who he tutored for free, totally rubbishes your claim that his ruling elite were, fixed in place born to rule rather than got there by merit..Yes change is essential,it's what we are evolved to do,but the best method to progress up that ladder needs to be fixed in place with unchanging rules on merit ahead of priviledge, freedom of thought and speech, equality under law, land rights etc..This is what he wanted to be permanent not some kind of caste or oligarchical system that holds India and now China and Russia back to this day..The Spartans got to the top because the men were out fighting, trading, building power abroad while their women were trusted to run the fort at home..It had a female government !..While back in "democratic" Athens, the women were doing their hair and nails, bullying their slaves like feminists with simps today and the men elite enough to vote were locked in committes debating the next distraction for the Sophists to peddle to the ordinary citizen..Sound familiar ?... Plato was on of the few in ancient times in favour of womens emancipation, that's social mobility on steroids !..Notice you pportunistically leave out the modern Soctratean campion Nietsczhe..Probably because to differs not so much with Platos Republic but with his Forms..Which pander to the abstract concept of perfection beyond our existence..A portent of Christian nihilism and the Indian influenced strands of dreamy Buddhism popular in Holiywood..Whose proponents plagiarise Wilde as evidence of their spiritual awakening..

When most wealth is concentrated in a few hands, there is simply not enough capital to go around to care for the majority with a basic level of care. More people at the bottom only spreads the available easily acquired resources thinner and thinner. If we only look at money either flowing to the elderly or from the wealthy to the underclass or the government to the wealthy through tax incentives and contracts or from the government to the poorest or those who do not deserve it, it is a faulty means for fortifying each persons ability to care for themself.

Any "class" system is a problem in my book, we are all born equal and die the same, so how does someone born into a "class" have any "rights" over another? just because they have money behind them, because that is what we are ultimately saying here, my dad was a philosopher, ruler and is wealthy, therefore I have the right to tell others what to do and think, well! take that idea and shove it. We have lost the power to remove incompetence and just say "NO"! and to hold people accountable for their actions (looking at you Blair)
