We're seeing the beginnings of this right now, but mark my words, in 10 years time, minorities and women in games and movies and TV will be seen along the same lines of a 'Made in China' stamp on the bottom of an item in a store. Which is to say, when you hire people for their race or design characters for their race, you inherently must put that above any kind of quality. Much in the same way I as a business owner might choose to make their products in China so that they can be cheaper. The result of this action is that consumers now pick up a product, notice that big 'Made in China' stamp and read instead "low quality, cheap, will break, the bare minimum, short term." This is conditioning. It doesn't happen over night, it takes decades to set in and needs constantly reinforced by increasingly more terrible products coming from China. I think this is the fate of minorities in multimedia. I think we're about 10-15 years into the process right now, and I think for a lot of people the conditioning is already complete. When you picked up Tell Tale's The Walking Dead 10+ years ago and saw Lee Everett, a black man, on the cover, you didn't think to yourself "low quality, cheap, the bare minimum, short term." Now, you do though. You pick up Forspoken, the billion years of evolution into your pattern seeking brain recognises the character's features, and you catch the signal in the noise - "I'm about to experience an insufferable character in a terrible game." With each instance of the pattern making itself known, the pattern becomes more ingrained in your mind. "Made in China" doesn't mean anything by itself. There is a reality where "Made in China" means the highest quality products, but in ours, "Made in China" has become the way to denote quality at a glance. SJWs, leftoids, whatever you want to call them, have unknowingly set us down a path where "minorities and women", once a neutral faction in multimedia, whose presence denoted neither quality or a lack thereof, now are starting to represent the same low quality sludge that you instantly recognise with the "Made in China" stamp. The practice of hiring based on race, merit and passion be damned, had not yet begun. Great comment. It really struck me how much things have changed in the past 12 years. I didn't give much thought to Lee Everett as the protagonist in the Walking Dead back in 2012. This was probably because it didn't feel like he was put there to deliver heavy-handed social justice messages. Lee wasn't defined by his race and he was allowed to have flaws. If the same were to happen now, all I would see are the writers behind the curtains pulling the strings.

I used to want to save Star Wars. But after a long train of abuses, I've gone through my stages of grief and am willing to let it completely die if it means Disney goes belly-up and all their wokies get fired. It will never be enough to quench my thirst for revenge, but it will at least bring me some closure to know that the world had also rejected them as I have. I loved gaming, but I haven't purchased a new title since GTA V. I still play it and will continue to play it. Jury is still out as to whether I purchase 6. But that will be up to the developers. If the reviews come out and it's found to be full of SBI horsedung, then I won't buy it. I won't buy a PS5, I won't buy the new TV to go with the PS5. I won't buy the new sound system for the media room, etc. What reason will I have to do so? Movies and hollywood are pretty much trash now, games was all that was left. It appears like profit is not the main motivation or end goal to these ideologues as demonstrated by all these movies, games, and comics failing to produce one yet these companies keep producing them without going out of business. With a straight face she talked about the patriarchy, men, boys club, and how she recently finished her DEI training. This was at a research facility of all places! It got even worse when a reorganisation appeared and my female business manager was more concerned with finding new places for her female subordinates. Which was ironic as 90% of the people getting laid off were men. I mean, after GamerGate, I was busy with Men's Rights, improving my salary and living conditions ... oh and buy some games. Every anti-Feminist post on forums got removed or censored. I saw other creators talking about streaming bias and how women were allowed to do everything they wanted, while the men got permabanned from platforms. While we have the numbers, they have the constitutions, the ideological motivation, and a deep hatred for white men. The fact that they can release articles discussing purging gamers or celebrating not having any white men in their games, shows how comfortable they are. Maybe we should be able to use their comfort to our advantage - because it's basically them making the errors and showing their intent.

The simple fact is this: either you win by them losing, or you win by taking action. The first scenario is - in the context of the world of gaming - an industry collapse. Which IS happening, if no action is taken. The problem with this is that it doesn't actually solve the problem. Hollywood, comics and AAA gaming are all failing right now, heavily due to woke propaganda and consumers being sick of it. But even if these industries lose tons of money and shrink, it won't change anyone's minds and all it does is make the activist class bury itself deeper. And I know this because all this has happened before. In the late 80s/early 90's "political correctness" (an earlier form of wokeness) became a big thing in the US and invaded culture, but it failed and was rejected . . . only to come back again 10 years later. Because nothing was done to purge the ideologues from where they manufacture their soldiers - at universities. The only actual way to win is through active action. Organizing and taking power and making decisions that grant more power, all while shutting down the ideologues every step of the way and in every venue available, turning the rooting out of evil into a moral good that people can get behind. But that won't happen because people don't have the stomach for embracing virtue for its own sake, and then living through it.

We're seeing the beginnings of this right now, but mark my words, in 10 years time, minorities and women in games and movies and TV will be seen along the same lines of a 'Made in China' stamp on the bottom of an item in a store. Which is to say, when you hire people for their race or design characters for their race, you inherently must put that above any kind of quality. Much in the same way I as a business owner might choose to make their products in China so that they can be cheaper. The result of this action is that consumers now pick up a product, notice that big 'Made in China' stamp and read instead "low quality, cheap, will break, the bare minimum, short term." This is conditioning. It doesn't happen over night, it takes decades to set in and needs constantly reinforced by increasingly more terrible products coming from China.
I think this is the fate of minorities in multimedia. I think we're about 10-15 years into the process right now, and I think for a lot of people the conditioning is already complete. When you picked up Tell Tale's The Walking Dead 10+ years ago and saw Lee Everett, a black man, on the cover, you didn't think to yourself "low quality, cheap, the bare minimum, short term." Now, you do though. You pick up Forspoken, the billion years of evolution into your pattern seeking brain recognises the character's features, and you catch the signal in the noise - "I'm about to experience an insufferable character in a terrible game."
With each instance of the pattern making itself known, the pattern becomes more ingrained in your mind. "Made in China" doesn't mean anything by itself. There is a reality where "Made in China" means the highest quality products, but in ours, "Made in China" has become the way to denote quality at a glance. SJWs, leftoids, whatever you want to call them, have unknowingly set us down a path where "minorities and women", once a neutral faction in multimedia, whose presence denoted neither quality or a lack thereof, now are starting to represent the same low quality sludge that you instantly recognise with the "Made in China" stamp.
Your brain didn't recognise the pattern 20 years ago when you watched 'Blade', because the pattern hadn't been made, yet. The practice of hiring based on race, merit and passion be damned, had not yet begun. If 'Blade' were to be remade today, we would not have a classic Black performance amongst us, we would instead have a low quality, cheap, bare minimum, short term movie of nothing, because nothing in the movie matters when you usurp all artistic purpose with 'we made this movie because the government will give us a grant if we do a movie with a black lead.'
I'd say the conditioning, right now, is 30-50% complete. Genuine racists and people who are ingrained in online culture war stuff already spot this pattern, whether they verbalise it or not. Give it another 10 years - another 10 years of Forspokens and The Force Awakens and Ghostbusters Remakes and so on, and 99% of the population will begin to pick up a movie or game, glance at the cover, spot the 'Made in China' stamp in the form of a 20-25 year old light-skinned black person with short back and sides haircut, and immediately put it down. It won't be the consumer that makes this pattern real, it will be the Sweet Baby Incs of the world who will associate minorities and women with low quality slop.
This doesn't mean there will never be minority and women movies and games that will be good - but that's the point I'm making. Once the pattern is ingrained, spotting them from the pile will be impossible. You will need to manually sift through them to find the diamond in the rough. There will still be Tell Tale The Walking Deads with their respective Lee Everetts, but they will be flanked either side by 100 DEI sludge games, burying them in a mountain of stigma.
Because the above pattern will be ingrained eventually, the opposite is necessarily true as well. "Made in America." Ever heard someone say that? They say it with pride. They don't say it because of some goofy "support local businesses!" mantra - they say it because if "Made in China" means 'cheap low quality slop', "Made in America" must mean, at bare minimum, "better than Chinese made." This is the fate of white male characters in games and movies. Whether you like it or not, your brain will watch the above pattern set in, and will associate the inverse with an opposite pattern. Just watched 100 DEI slop movies in a row? Here's a Ryan Gosling one. Just played 50 DEI slop games in a row? Here's Doom Eternal.
Perhaps the fastest way these patterns set in is when a company foolishly reboots or adds a sequel to an existing product and adds DEI. Take Red Dead Redemption as an example. Most people will agree that RDR1 and RDR2 have fantastic stories and characters. These are games that have straight white men as their leads. Now, imagine a world where a DEI RDR3 is made, with a quirky 20-25 year old light-skinned black woman as the lead. Imagine it comes out terrible. What did the audience learn? That 'Made in China' must denote low quality sludge.
I don't know if it'll take ten years to complete, but this general pattern is definitely being learned. That's why lists akin to Sweet Baby Inc Detected are going to be useful, because the easier it is for people to recognize the fell hand behind the ruin of so much, the faster that process of learning will happen.

Great comment. It really struck me how much things have changed in the past 12 years. I didn't give much thought to Lee Everett as the protagonist in the Walking Dead back in 2012. This was probably because it didn't feel like he was put there to deliver heavy-handed social justice messages. Lee wasn't defined by his race and he was allowed to have flaws. If the same were to happen now, all I would see are the writers behind the curtains pulling the strings.

I used to want to save Star Wars. I think it's important to point out that game gate was the first engagement of a much larger culture war that has taken place on the social media battlefield controlled by fundamentalist Californians. They were able to effectively silence their opposition.
How many generations have already been programmed by the infection within the school system and the higher learning institutions? The damage is done. It has become normalized while everyone sat on their hands and let it happen. Now we are watching the results of that play out in all arenas of life. Yes there is still a small minority of people who still have common sense and critical thinking skills but if the positions of power that have been occupied by the ideologically possessed continue to be occupied then no remedy can ever be applied. This has been going on for a lot longer than the beginning of gamer gate. While everyone was too worried about earning a living in order to feed their families this agenda has been slowly eating away at our society for over 50 years. People only become aware of it when it noticeably effects something they hold dear to them like it did with games back then or when it was brought to movies and became too apparent to ignore. The same thing happened with the comic book industry but this virus has been injected so long ago that no one can directly pinpoint it's inception yet it has been slowly burning through our culture in an overt manner only after it took over the learning institutions and tainted the young minds of the first generation it infected. Is there a way out? It appears like profit is not the main motivation or end goal to these ideologues as demonstrated by all these movies, games, and comics failing to produce one yet these companies keep producing them without going out of business. If the track record over the last 15 years or so has proven beyond doubt that this trash does not sell then why and how does it continue to be produced at a loss? Welcome to the brave new world. I wasn't really shocked, because DEI is everywhere now. Last year, I talked with someone from HR regarding a complaint. With a straight face she talked about the patriarchy, men, boys club, and how she recently finished her DEI training. This was at a research facility of all places!
It got even worse when a reorganisation appeared and my female business manager was more concerned with finding new places for her female subordinates. Which was ironic as 90% of the people getting laid off were men.
I mean, after GamerGate, I was busy with Men's Rights, improving my salary and living conditions ... oh and buy some games. Every anti-Feminist post on forums got removed or censored. I saw other creators talking about streaming bias and how women were allowed to do everything they wanted, while the men got permabanned from platforms.
While we have the numbers, they have the constitutions, the ideological motivation, and a deep hatred for white men. The fact that they can release articles discussing purging gamers or celebrating not having any white men in their games, shows how comfortable they are.
Maybe we should be able to use their comfort to our advantage - because it's basically them making the errors and showing their intent.

The problem with this is that it doesn't actually solve the problem. Hollywood, comics and AAA gaming are all failing right now, heavily due to woke propaganda and consumers being sick of it. But even if these industries lose tons of money and shrink, it won't change anyone's minds and all it does is make the activist class bury itself deeper.
And I know this because all this has happened before. In the late 80s/early 90's "political correctness" (an earlier form of wokeness) became a big thing in the US and invaded culture, but it failed and was rejected . . . only to come back again 10 years later. Because nothing was done to purge the ideologues from where they manufacture their soldiers - at universities.
The only actual way to win is through active action. Organizing and taking power and making decisions that grant more power, all while shutting down the ideologues every step of the way and in every venue available, turning the rooting out of evil into a moral good that people can get behind.
But that won't happen because people don't have the stomach for embracing virtue for its own sake, and then living through it.

Well AAA is a mess. Western AAA is doing well, as is middle market and indy. ESG is no longer the cheap and easy funding it was. CZcamsrs are dominating the gaming sphere while jurnos are floundering. Twitter being ours is a huge factor too. We know entertainment companies used twitter as a way to gauge sentiment towards certain trends. Sorry, but I'm optimistic here.
