Coincidentally, I was looking up CRYSTAL RADIOS last week. They are made with a coil of wire, a resister, a capacitor and an earpiece. They need no power supply, not even a battery! (they are powered solely by the transmitting radio waves from the broadcast station) They are also called a foxhole radio (or maybe that's a similar build??) CZcams has them. They were made by radio-savvy soldiers during WW2 and are now being built by hobbyists for a fun project that actually works! Nice radio review, Steve! Another fantastic show and 100% watched! Yes, running new engines in prior to installing synthetic oils used to be the go, but not any more. I will declare up front that I worked 35 years for ExxonMobil in the South Pacific and specialised in the automotive sector for much of that time. The background to "running an engine in" applied to engines made let's say in the late 80's to the early 90's. Later during the 90's motor manufacturers started to extend the period between service intervals and that went on for a while before companies like Mercedes Benz started to look at the durability of engine oils and could they remain in service for longer? To shorten this story, mineral oils do not last, while synthetics can last much longer and I won't bore readers with the reasons why. It's suffice to say that some manufacturers approached Mobil because of their success on race tracks with Moibl 1, for assistance, while others decided to conduct their own in-house oil testing. Today's new engines are a marvelous example of high precision manufacturing and it's this fact that allows the immediate use of synthetic oils. Many manufacturers recommend it today. If you have your car serviced by an authorised dealer, that dealer will be required by the manufacturer to install synthetic oils to comply with their standards. Summed up, I use synthetics in everything, inlcuding my water pumps, but in saying that there is one exception. My 1975 Massey Ferguson Tractor. I still use mineral oil and change it and the filter. every year. I hope this is helpful.

    Delivery guy in Manhattan on a CBR 1000 purchased new immediately dropped the factory oil for synthetic. Ran it like this and clocked 130,000 miles(how that’s possible in Manhattan I’ll never know-madness)then pulled the engine apart to do a major look-see. The engine never even broke-in. However, you do want your engine to break in. It gets rid of needless friction. Then swap to synthetic.

    after being told by 2-3 shops the steering rack was blown, dealer quoting a $2500 job, driving 11K miles and for the last year just adding 3 oz of STP 'stop leak' steering fluid (high mileage) every 7-10 days whenever steering started whirring (in warmer seasons, winter much less often), i finally googled '06 honda accord poor man's steering rack leak fix' and landed on a guy in a honda forum saying ATP AT-200 did the trick. i did a new search on that, saw 5 youtube mechanics saying same and demonstrating it and was game to try my luck. so, i got a $13 bottle poured 3-4oz of ATP AT-205 and cant recall if i let it sit overnight or drove off for some short nearby driving (my usual), but after 5 days i put fresh cardboard under car to monitor it and the leak slowed-up from 3 drips to 2 and 1 then stopped in 10 days, added another 3-4oz for good measure at first hint of a whir. dont know how long it'll hold, but the dripping stopped. what next? do i now switch back to regular steering fluid? presumably the good grade stuff (not the cheap leak fixer stuff). also, i can see oil buildup has sprayed somehow from the bottom of the SF reservoir onto everything below so now i need to know whether i should get a bottle of degreaser with spray nozzle (safer/gentler on rubber) that i can try to spray what i can reach or ask a shop to do it. i feel like i asked a mechanic once and they said they dont do that. does that sound right?

    Quick ? Steve.....I have the same identical die grinder, and also using your 3M recommended "sanding discs" as well, but it takes me "several if not many passes" to get my lawnmower blades sharp enough to really "slice-thru-the-grass" when mowing on my Bobcat Fastcat Pro Zero-turn lawnmower. What I would like to know is this....what PSI rating is your "air compressor unit" by chance? Mine is a Sears Craftsman air compressor indicating a "150 PSI MAX" rating and I'm getting the feeling that my air compressor needs to be one with much more power or higher PSI rating than what I have here in my garage which I mainly use for inflating our tires on our vehicles, bicycles, riding lawnmowers, etc. SEARS CRAFTSMAN PROFESSIONAL - 150 PSI MAX, 7.2 SCFM @ 40 PSI, 5.8 SCFM @ 90 PSI 1.9 HP, 27 Gallon, 120V, Twin Cylinder-Oil Lubricated Air Compressor (Purchased in 2015). Any feedback would be certainly appreciated Steve.....take care!

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews Před 2 dny

      Check your disk grit , try a 40-80 grit for fast removal. I always set my air tools at the rated 90psi but not at the compressor gauge but at the end of the air hose. I made my own air connector with a gauge built in so I know the pressure at the tool not at the compressor as the readings are different. I also use a 3/8 hose for better volume. czcams.com/video/SfhCTGUgYJM/video.html

    Several things, 1, there are a lot of knock-offs of this type of balancer, and some of them are off balance to begin with. I bit the bullet and bought the standard Mag 1000, they have higher-end versions that are either more sensitive or one has a carbide shaft so that the blade doesn't wear it down, but those are very pricey. 2, those cone balancers or a nail are nowhere near as good. 3, now if you really want to have the blade balanced, you will need to do verticle balance also, I could see that your blade #3 was fine horizontally, but not vertically. While horizontal balance is close enough for regular mowers, on electric mowers, you really want them balanced the best they can be, because the blade is mounted directly to the motor, and they are not cheap like replacing a spindle on a gas unit. Once you get it balanced, the blade should stay in any position you turn it to. If the blade is balanced horizontally, but always levels out with the same side down, just remove a bit off of the top of the blade. from the center out, the same distance on either side of center. Some blades may need an adaptor, manga matic has those, or I have seen some that people are using the plastic printers to make them and sell on ebay.

    • @SteveRobReviews
      @SteveRobReviews Před 3 dny

      There is a huge difference between never ballancing a blade and just letting it go as is. I never experienced a negative outcome in the past, just using a nail to balance, but this unit if far better as far as accuracy so everyone can decide on what works best for them. Cheers 👍

    With the EQUILIBRIUM method you CANNOT over salt the meat. Convert green weight of meat to grams, multiple by .03, answer is the required weight of salt (regardless of variety) for the percentage of salinity. ** if using Cure #1(max allowable limit 150ppm) general rule of thumb is 1 teaspoon per 5 pounds meat. TIP..., for color retention only #1 cure can be reduced by half (75ppm)...., add cure salt then remainder salt weight to mixture.

    Unfortunately my vintage Yazoo walk behind had odd ball blades which cannot be balanced with a balancer due to the oblong blade mounting hole that those mowers use. Of course buying a new set of blades for the 48 inch Yazoo is out of the question as they are not being made anymore by Yazoo or any other aftermarket manufacturer. So to solve the worn out blades that lack quite a lot of material at the cutting surface from many many years of sharpening, I welded them up back to a full blade. Since I had to build up the now long gone cutting surface material, I decided to upgrade them and dug out my 120 thousand pound tensile strength hard facing specialty rods. These things are Billy bad ass ki.d of awesome pretty much damn near bulletproof it laughs at rocks and other hard debris.Too bad mower blades don't come this good. One downside though, theres no quick shape up with a file as it will just skate across without even making a scratch. Lol 👍 ya gotta do what ya gotta do. The only other option I had was to change out the spindles to something that I can actually buy blades for. I can buy any other size blades for a Yazoo just not for a 48 inch. However i will be buying one of these balancers for my other equipment as it appears to work extremely well. Thanks for the video.

    the old style piston rings needed a more course (less friction modifiers) oil to break in engines. The difference is in this case being an air cooled engine uses old style piston rings to handle the heat. They have a higher tension to cylinder pressure and no torque plates when factory is honing cylinder to size. So the break in oil needs to be a standard oil so the rings can "lap" themselves into position.

    Interesting to see there are still some who like the old fuse type of breakers but it just goes to show there is a proper use for everything! See ya next time ✌

    In an aside comment, you talked about a 110 volt welder in the past tense. I assume the welder you used that melted the snow is your Lincoln. I just picked up an AC/DC Century welder from 1995. I wanted an old tank for some heavy stick welding l had to do. 100% duty cycle compared to 30% for my inverters. It's just fun running an old machine like that. Anyway, cheers.

    110 volt welder probably surges up to about 27 amps when you strike the arc. Once it's running you're pulling 20, probably. I pulled a dedicated 30 amp circuit for my welders. No issues. I suppose those "P" type fuses would work with a welder. They would handle the surge.

      Me too, but I switch over to straight 30 wt when the engines get old.
