The British betrayed the Poles after they fought like heroes and were pivotal in WWII they are now accredited being essential if not responsible for putting the death nail to the Soviet Union. Fearless, unwaivering when looking death in the face. Just like they saved Europe in 1919 they did so in WW2. Unsung heros of the free world

God more nonsense. Poland was unsurprisingly massacred in 1939, and it was ONLY the British Empire who was responsible for the fact that swastikas don't STILL fly over Warsaw and nazi death camps no longer exist in Poland. Stop insulting your saviours, the UK, as you're also insulting your ancestors who came running to the UK after being chased across Europe by nazism, and who referred to the UK as the "Island of the last Hope". You're welcome.

I have travelled to many countries around the world - so I have a bit of experience. Sune is RIGHT! In EVERY city that you go to, you SHOULD invest in a city tour! A city tour is IMPORTANT - IF you really want a little taste of a city. A city tour makes sure that you get to see (even if for a few minutes) ALL of the IMPORTANT things in a city (that you may miss if you go without) AND gives you the history AND REASON WHY something is important. YOU MISS SO MUCH IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT OR THE SIGNIFICANCE TO THE PEOPLE - which you can't even fully get on Google. A city tour also by taking you everywhere, lets you know what places you want to come back to on your next days in the city on your own, because you have gotten a taste of what it is like & know what you are NOT interested in putting your time in. Furthermore, a city tour gives you a bit of an idea of where everything is in the city so you get a bit more oriented, QUICKLY in a much different way from a Google map. The FINAL thing I would say about a city tour is that the person giving the tour will be a local. They can then give you their personal information on the significance of something or how the people feel about something or what is safe to do & where in the city etc. They can tell you MUST TRY foods & drinks, how to use public transport or boat rentals & whether worth it for what you want to do on your next days. All in all, I HIGHLY recommend a city tour in each place you go or you end up wasting your time by missing out on so much! (I have done it BOTH ways - with city tours & on my own & I have regretted NOT having had the city tours in the places that myself & my companions did not do it.) As far as choosing a tour goes, look around & don't just go with what the hotel offers, although that option sometimes ends up being the best & cheapest for a GOOD tour, so DON'T DISREGARD IT EITHER.) It is BEST to go with an ACTUAL TOUR COMPANY - that has transportation that you get on & off of. You can't see the WHOLE city on foot in the short 1/2 day or even full day that you are on the tour, unless you only want to see a city center, but I guarantee you that there will be things of importance OUTSIDE of the city center too that you will miss out on if you just do a walking tour of the city center. *On this note though, IF there is only 1 thing of importance outside of the city center, you CAN do a city center tour & then go yourselves to the other destination (if not too expensive ie. a taxi MAY get you to an outskirt place, but it MAY end up costing you MORE than it would have cost to get a full tour that would include the important/significant sight just out of town.) IF you can get cheap public transport to the out-of-town place, you may want to do this & pay for a guide at the site. (SOMETIMES this is cheaper & even better if you are pretty sure that you will want to spend a significant amount of time at this place.) I DON'T suggest that you just pay a single local guide (vs. a tour company) because you DON'T know how much the person actually knows about the history or significance of something that was far back in history. Most places these guides aren't regulated, so it could be just any local (maybe who focused on math & ignored history, knows NOTHING about architecture & what went in to building something. When you know what it took & how it was done & what was used ie. to make a church etc. you can appreciate it SO much more.) Some local guides MAY be good BUT you just don't have a clue what you will get if you go this route - good or bad. MOST tour companies I have been with have all been really good. (There was only 1 exception out of MANY.) One last thing is the ORDER (DAYS) I would do things. Day 1- whether you arrive in the day or evening, on this first day/night I would just walk around your hotel area &/or the city center to get a "feel" for the place (& the prices - of food, exchange houses, tour costs & what is offered). Check these things out at your hotel BEFORE you go on your walk so you know what to compare things to. ALSO this way, you can then book your city tour for the next day while you are already in town instead of having to come back to book the tour the next day & possibly have to miss the tour that day. If the better deal is at your hotel, hopefully you will be able to get back to the hotel (or call it) in time to book a tour for the next day. Day 2 - take your city tour & get to see a bit of everything (& get to know a bit about everything too). If doing a 1/2 day tour & if you can choose morning or afternoon, choose morning so that you can return in the afternoon to your favourite spot/s Day 3 (if you have one) & beyond - spend time re-visiting places on the tour that seemed the most appealing to you & buy any souvenirs & try some more foods - (OR of course, go back to a favourite food place you want at least one more time in your life.) **(IF there was some object that you REALLY liked when on tour & it is not an easy place to come back to or will not be in an area you want to invest time - then buy the souvenir then - OTHERWISE wait until Day 3 & beyond as places showcased on tours normally raise their prices vs. the same sort of items in a city center location that is NOT having to pay the tour company a fee for showcasing them on their tour.) I know that this is long & I am sorry about that, but I hope that this information WILL help you on your future travels.

BEAUTIFUL looking city - ESP. at the castle gates, with the gorgeous statues & buildings next to the gates as well. To think that architecture moved from THIS - to the "modern" architecture we have now - & society is supposed to be "progressive." I would MUCH prefer this old architecture ANY day - but now companies prefer to bow to the Gods of money & don't want to "waste" it on making & having beautiful things, including their buildings.

If you want to know - why Poles were so effective in the Battle of Britain - why RAF squadron commanders demanded that there be at least one Pole in the squadron - why, when in the evening all the planes were only suitable for renovation at the factory, in the morning they were ready to fly - where did the high training of Polish pilots come from? I recommend the film Why Were Polish Pilots So Successful In The Battle Of Britain? | 303 Kościuszko Squadron from the Caliban Rising channel - Aviation History
