Refinishing This 40 year old Table! Was it Worth it???
Was it worth Refinishing this 40 year old table? I think so! Refinishing furniture is one of the things I love about Woodworking! You don't have to build new, you can always repurpose and refinish an old piece of furniture to give it a second life. I worked on this project a few months ago and finally finished editing it this week. This project was more work than maybe it was worth, but I’m glad I took the time to refinish, renew, and reuse instead of trashing something that still had some life to give. I think it turned out better than we could have ever hoped for considering it was built more than 40 yrs ago.

Build Your Own Solid Wood Doors
zhlédnutí 1,3KPřed 5 měsíci
When I decided to build my own solid wood doors for my office, it became one of my favorite woodworking projects and one of the most satisfying I have ever done. I built them out of African Mahogany and etched glass. I knew I wanted to build my own doors for my office since the day we bought the house almost 3 years ago. We decided to build the doors out of Mahogany and glass, and I could not b...

Build your own DIY cross cut sled. I have been needing a cross cut sled for my table saw and I finally decided to build one. I mostly used materials I already had in my shop. The only exception was a T-track and some Hold Down Claps I bought at Rockler. #BuildYourOwn #Woodworking #DIY #HowTo #TableSaw #CrossCutSled #Buildityourself Products we used: Below are affiliate links and we may be paid ...

Would pressure treated pine fencing work?
It could, but it would be heavy. The Cedar is naturally bug and rot resistant and it incredibly light weight.
@TheSharkShed thanks. I finally was able to find cedar this afternoon. The employee said don't stain all sides so the cedar can breathe. Ever heard of that?
@@southern842 I have not heard that. I will say I stained both sides and have had no issues.
@@TheSharkShed thank you
Awesome job!
@@deansali2202 thank you!!
Thank you for the heads up. Just ordered my gasket.
Glad I could help!
Awesome, nice job!
Thank you! 🙏
about to do this for the entire upstairs of my house 😫
I still have a bunch to do as well. Best of luck!
Great video and it is always encouraging to see young folks interested in woodworking. As long as you're teaching this youngster about woodworking, you should emphasize not to stand directly behind that board that you are ripping on the table saw. There is no guard or anti-kick back device in place. If that board kicks back, the youngster is going to take it in the gut. That is a tough lesson to learn the hard way! Keep up the great work of teaching our youngsters to work with their hands but more importantly, teach them to work safely.
Thank you for the comment. I 100% agree with you regarding safety. I have since acquired a better and safer saw with a kerf riving knife, which will greatly reduce the chance of kickback. Also, the person working with me is a young lady who I am helping build her some nightstands. She is tiny and looks like a little kid. She will be thrilled to know someone thought she was a kid. :) Thanks again for the comment and reminder to work safely.
got a link for the part ?
For my nailer I got it at ereplacementparts.com with Part #: 910767. Hope this helps!
0:12 I can see light scattering like road bumps shape. Is it as flat as just like out of jointer?
@@Haplo-san yes, it’s just as flat as a jointer.
Nice work ! Thank you !
Thank you!
You've done a beautiful job on your shutters. I'm looking for inspiration and I do believe that I've grabbed some great take-aways from you! So Thank You! #1 - I'm definitely going to grab the cedar fence boards! #2 - I LOVE the hinges idea! Hopefully Home Depot sells those 🤞🙏😉 #3 - I didn't think about using stain!! 🤯😍😃 I'm going to be painting mine black but Im going to test transparent black stain along with my deck transparent stain color, Tugboat. Thanks for sharing your ideas! 💯👍
I'm glad this was helpful! Black or Black stain sounds amazing!
Dino we are so grateful for you and "Mrs. Muscles". I had no idea how much work this would take and am so grateful you took it on. We love our repurposed table and are putting it to good use. Thank you friend!!
Our pleasure! So glad it turned out great and you all loved it!
That turned out awesome Dino! I have to give you props on refinishing. It's definitely not my cup of tea. Too much sanding 🤣
Thanks Buddy! And I agree! It was a lot of sanding and not my favorite! My next project was more building than sanding and I had a helper this time! 😜
Hate the stupid music. Would be far better silent.
I’m sorry you feel that way. Feel free to just keep swiping.
good job
Thank you!
Mrs. Muscles....haha. good one. Came out great
Thanks buddy!
beautiful doors. that came out great
Thanks Buddy!
Great, Thanks! This should save me from buying a new nailer.
Glad it helps!
fantastic job
Thank you so much! I appreciate the compliment.
Need some sill tape
You are correct. Thanks.
thank you just order me one
Hope you enjoy it!
Just so you know, it does not cold grummins. It's called blind nuts.
My sled(slab flattener) is 2 3"× 6" aluminum rectangle tubes 4' long for the rails and 2 2"× 2"× 1/4" angles 4' long with a polycarbonate base for the router support. Just slide the angles along the rails. Use a 2" Whiteside flattening bit. It will flatten a slab up to 24" wide and 4' long and 2" to 4" thick. Works well so far. Got all the aluminum at work, so it was inexpensive too.
Wow! That is awesome! I really like how versatile this has become for me.
Why did you place it right on the shingle and you did not peel back shingles
I did peel back the shingle at the top because that is the only thing that is required. If I had peeled back the sides or bottom shingle then water would have a way under the vent.
Is ur siding wood or vinyl?
It’s Hardie cement board.
What speed was your drill press at for the holes in the plexiglass?
I used the same speed I use for most wood, 2800 RPMs, wich is also the high setting on this particular press.
1/8th of an inch 5 times ?
Yeah, I guess it would have been less than 1/8 of an inch. Probably 1/32 to maybe 1/16. Good catch. We ended up at about 1/4 inch boards. It's been almost 2 years and they have held up very well!
They look really good . Someone quoted my mother-in-law $1600 for 3 sets of windows like this, but I talked her into doing this instead
@@robertfultz7423 I'm glad this helped make a less expensive decision for her.
My house is identical to yours except white shutters. I think the cedar is great, going to copy this
Copy away! Hope they turn out great!
Awesome job
Thank you! Cheers!
yup nailed it, perfect New England style, now just hang the Betsy Ross 13 colony flag and call it a day!
That's a great idea! Thanks!
I do like the shaker style
Me too!
Could you let me know the screw sizes for the 20mm rail glides and the 16mm glides. Great video well done!!
Screws came with the 16mm rails, so I am not sure what it was. For the 20mm rail, I believe it is an M5 screw size. I am not sure of the length I used, but I think it was about 1/2 inch. Hope this helps. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Really nice job. Fun to watch. Keep up the great work.
Dude, I actually need to do this repair. Looked it up and I see you!!!! Great job.
They came out great. Were they your own design or did you see those somewhere and followed the size and style.
Thanks Keith! These were my own design. I saw some similar doors as I was designing these just to get some ideas, but I knew what I wanted overall from the beginning. I needed privacy, but I also needed to allow light to come in, so this is what I came up with.
@@TheSharkShed Very cool
nice & simple Sled design .. Thanks man for sharing
I appreciate it! Thank you!
What was the rough cost (outside of the router and underlying table)? Thanks! Good job.
Thank you! The rough cost was a little under $250.
I hate it when CZcamsrs fail to credit their sources of inspiration. Thanks for doing so. I believe acrylic is a much better choice than plywood. You could even improve dust collection with a CNC dust shoe! I can't wait to build mine.
Thank you, I appreciate you saying that! The CNC dust shoe is an excellent idea. I will see what it would take to incorporate it.
That thing is cool Dino. I want a flattening setup however I have a drum sander and that works pretty well also for now. One day, I'll have one. Great video bud!
Thanks man! I would love a drum sander. But this was a more cost effective option for now.
at long last about to build mine, just needed a push to do it. nice work
Awesome! Hope this helps a little! 😬
First flattener lol. Go Yankees
Thank you Keith for always being so supportive!
@@TheSharkShed 👍🏻Pretty cool. Wish I could get my lawn that flat and smooth 😂
If only! Maybe I can build a lawn flattening jig. :)
Can you add the hinge kit into the description block above?
Sorry, I reused the same hinge kit from the old shutters. They were in great shape so I decided to reuse instead of replacing them.
Where did you get the hardware?
I use the same hardware from the old shutters.
No lock washers? Spot or Tig would be 1000% better and give you a flat profile
Like I said, this was quick and dirty. I’ll do a more permanent solution soon. Spot or tig are definitely on the table.
Long sleeves + table saw = D I S A S T E R waiting to happen.
Just picked this up tonight! Can't wait for daylight!
You'll love it!!!
What color is your house and shed?
Nice work. Just to let you know I'm copying this on to my house. AWESOME 🎉
First job I had with my Granddad as a kid was nailing down subfloors. After watching the Ol' timers I had it down...filled my pouch, mistake... started banging them in... one at a time was a pain... Aah, trick #1...put a bunch of spiral's in my mouth and went back at it... Come lunch time I'm sitting with the crew and couldn't eat... Had this awful taste in my mouth and couldn't get rid of it and mentioned it...Everyone started laughing like their sides would explode... What's so f'in funny, ask I... Well as they settled down, my cousin, a little older, turned to the guy's and asked... All right who had Broccoli Rob last night, the nails are bitter... Turns out, when doing the subflooring, the guys would piss in the wooden keg that the nails came in... Seems a rusty nail holds as good as a screw... and a nail askew holds better than a screw... That was over 65yrs ago... never tasted a nail or screw since then... 🖖👍🐝💪🐸
Wow! I’m so sorry! But great story!! 😂
Very nice but what happens if glass breaks
