Powerful transition to new, and grounding insights into real Judaism. I spent 6 years in a Prison system teaching Biblical Hebrew, Torah and Talmud to a diverse group of interested (and curious) inmates....Jews, Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, self-proclaimed "Messianic Jews", Hindus, atheists, agnostics, each with their own form of religious expression. It was a fascinating experience, and I had a chance to positively affect (and attempt to correct) previously-misunderstood concepts about Judaism. It was a powerful process for all.....and, B'H, decent and respectful discussions resulted. I am grateful to have been given a chance to serve.

there was this chassidic story I read once, I don't remember all the details but it was about a Chassid who was a drunk. And one of the Rebbe's sent someone to learn something from him, and then that person went back to complain to the rebbe that the chassid suggested was a drunk. He only woke up to say one part of davening, let's say, yishtabach and would go back to sleep until the next day... how could he learn anything from such a person? So the Rebbe explained that this chassid was almost a tzaddik in his previous life, but something happen, and couldn't say yishtabach so he had to come back to the next life to say it, and in order for him to remain a Tzadik and not commit any averos, Hashem made him into a drunk. So he wouldn't even have the chance to sin. I love this story. I believe in recovery, in personal accountability and I definitely do not like the whole trend of kiddush clubs, but in life, and specially in addiction, there's always something more than meets the eye.

one silly comment tho, at the end when the Rabbi says that drinking and meshichism is turning people away from chabad, I once had a goyish Colombian friend who said, "I love your God who allows you and commands you to drink every weekend" lol. Just a silly recount. but yeah, drinking is a big issue in chabad, but comparing it to being a meshichist, it's a little bit of a stretch in my humble opinion.

first thing I actually disagree with Rabbi Friedman. I actually have seen my Sefardi, modern orthodox, conservative, litvish, friends, family and acquaintances accepting the Rebbe's Malchus or at least not debating it (specially after Oct. 7, people who before disagree with the Rebbe in terms of 2 state solution, UN perspective, wiping out enemies, etc) have said HE IS RIGHT. That's my opening with telling them, only Moshiach would know this 30 years ago!!!! the more we say Yechi, the more chayus we give to our Rebbe Melech HaMoshiach! Keep saying it unafraid of turning people off Chassidus. There's no turning back, Moshiach is here.

I don't agree with how Rabbi Friedman looks at converts. I think they are born with a Jewish soul and their soul calls to Judaism until they finally leave whatever religion they were born into to become a convert to Judaism. Some of them even go against their family's wishes, which I have heard from more than a few converts. I also think because of reincarnation and the Holocaust, can explain why there was such a surge of Jewish converts in the 20th Century. Just a different truth of the same fact.

WOW - this guy is beyond racist. He claimed Chinese food is "junk food" and "un-needed" yet he claims a "sandwich" is real food. One has loads of veggies, meat and rice and other is heavily processed meats, crappy bread etc... Does Manis Friedman hate all asian ? or just chinese people ?

i think these rabbis who speak about R" Friedman get caught up in the mistranslation/misinterpretation of the english of "needs". G-d doesn't need in the same way we need...but He does "need" us. He requires a relationship. I guess you can use that word instead....REQUIRES.
