A short clip from a gathering Maoist/Communist party rally observed in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Maoist rebels waged a bloody civil war from the mid-90s until a few years before this. The Maost/Communists had just formed the ruling government coalition, although the political situation is was highly unstable following the death a week before of the man who brokered the end to the civil war.

The end is probably the most interesting. I hired a canoe to visit a remote fishing village. There I found an amazing group of kids eager to have their picture taken! (No, I didn't realize the canoe would be powered by a woman and her young daughter!)

It boggles my mind how anyone in their right mind would ever feel even slightly inclined to want to risk their life and freedom to visit a country that despises western culture and wants any excuse in the book to make an example out of you. Didn’t anyone learn from the Otto case never to go to North Korea?
Of course it’s bugged, you nimrod! Unless you’re doing the smart thing and showing us the bug whilst keeping yourself safe. As for people being not important enough to bug… I visited Russia in the 1980’s and every seat on every bus had a hole in the headrest foam covered by fabric and each seat had an easily visible wire leading into the back. It’s impossible to overestimate how intrusive these kinds of government are. Sadly, the west is slowly going the same way. 😤
Are you kidding? The west is already like this. You don't remember Snowden? PRISM and all that jazz? The U.S. Government used the red scare to manufacture consent from Americans for domestic snooping, and used the "brown" scare after 9/11 to re-instate and elevate it. It's like the old Soviet joke. A Russian and an American walk into a bar, the American comments "you Russians sure do make some killer propaganda!", the Russian is pleased by this comment, and thanks his American friend for the compliment. He replies "Why thank you, but of course you westerners are the best in the world at propaganda". The American, perplexed, asks, "what propaganda?" Probably funnier in Russian, but nonetheless it's a similar principle when applied to surveillance. London for example has some of the highest concentration of CCTV in the entire world. The U.S.A. has 30% of the entire world's prison population. I find it so peculiar that we nonetheless denigrate China for their "draconian security culture". I don't know if those journalists know just how hypocritical they are being.

They are not bugged (an old radio Big box full with wires that doesn t work) and a sealed drawer, a radio that every Home must have turned on at all times 😅 😅😅😅
