    I was a judo player in the USA Marine Corps. After I returned home I wanted to learn kung-Fu. I studied Eagles claw, and Wu style tai chi. I was a postal police officer and didn’t feel
    Comfortable with people walking up into my face. I asked my sifu what to do and he told me to learn Wing Tsun. Every school I went to the teacher would tell me they were the best. I did my research and came up with two names William Chun and Leung Ting. I was going to take a William Chun seminar for $500. I decided to buy Leung Ting’s book first. I liked that he had a rank System. I wrote to him in Hong Kong and he told me that he would train me for free. He was the only one that never told me that he was the best. What he did tell me is that if I trained with him I would be able to go back and beat everyone that told me they were the best.

    I remember reading an interview with Sifu Jack Kontou, he went into London's Mr Universe and GM Victor Kan advised him to continue with his Weight Training and it helped him in his Wing Chun.

    This was awesome 🤩 Derek Chan seems a breathe of fresh air with debunking the BS around martial arts. I’d like to see a part 2 going even deeper with this Sifu.

    25:43 not sure about the Biu Ji explanation, but for our school it followed ironically what Bruce Lee said in one of his movies, "don't look at the pointing finger or you will miss the heavenly glory" i.e. it's about seeing the big picture. Biu ji- the finger pointing at the moon.

    This Sifu is very knowledgeable. Love his internal external definitions. This is how I've thought about I've done Northern and Southern Shaolin including WC since I was a littke kid. I'm older now so I do a lot Chikung exercises. And they're both internal and external. it's cardio and stretching exercises. Abdominal breathing is very internal because you learn to use muscles in your back as well as abdomen. And they're different techniques some for calming you. And some are for pumping you up ,like power lifters do. The calming breathing exercises are very useful. They help me stretch most of flexibility training is learning to relax your nervous system. Once you learn that. It's easier to stretch the muscles and legiments. This was an excellent show. Martial arts need more mature decisions like this.

    Sifu Derek Chan's words at minute 17:30: "to be good in Wing Chun, you have to spar". You listen now? SPAR!!!
    SPAR means "resisting opponent "!

      So, go ahead and spar. Do you want me to send you video so you can pleasure yourself to it? You are disturbingly obsessed with seeing me do something I have already done. Or, maybe you just get intensely aroused over it and I should charge you to watch private sparring sessions for your jizz sau.

    In terms of Bil Gee having throws. That elbow position can be used to perform a number of throws: seoinage, koshwaza, koshiguruma, haraigoshi and others.
    Its simply that too many have been brainwashed in to WC the style. So you see the classic hands extended position followed by head hunting. Almost completely ignoring the concepts and strategies inherent to the system.
    Consider that wrestling based systems have level changes, yet WC people completely ignore this element even though its in your face in the weapons sets.
    These same people will claim secret teachings for the weapons and that the weapons also power up our empty hand and provide yet more techniques. None, in my experience, has seen the takedowns that exist in the weapons or the dummy, which is even more obvious.

    Thank you for doing this. Really good questions, equally good answers and in the round a great discussion.
    But wow, what a missed opportunity!!! Why did you not ask Derek about Bruce Lee, and run by him the things you dislike about Lee? Dreadful oversight.
    Please get Derek back on camera ASAP, to rectify this omission. 🙏 😊

      It was not my intention to cause offence.
      By your own admission you are not a fan of Bruce Lee (2:05) yet in his lifetime he became the most famous martial artist on the planet. Fifty years after his death, Lee remains a martial arts icon. Is there anyone remotely comparable?
      Martial arts experts such as Joe Lewis, Chuck Norris, Jim Kelly, Brad Dilman, Jackie Chan and countless others say Lee was exceptional.
      You told Derek your mind was open to being corrected about things (5:02), So ...
      Why not ask Derek's views about Lee?
      Why not have a conversation with Derek and discuss the reservations you have about Lee?
      Don't you think this subject would interest your subscribers and followers?

    • @adam28171
      @adam28171 Před rokem

      @@glynhannaford7332 because if your not a Bruce Lee fan why waste time asking about Bruce Lee! The time was spent BETTER by discussing Wing Chun. That’s what Izzo’s followers are here for and more interested in. WING CHUN the art form, WING CHUN application, WING CHUN understanding,
      This is NOT a Bruce Lee fan page.

    • @glynhannaford7332
      @glynhannaford7332 Před rokem +1

      @@adam28171 Why so defensive Adam? What are you afraid might come from Izzo having that conversation with Derek?
      But to answer your question, "why waste time asking about Bruce Lee?" Maybe because:
      1. He's one of the most famous Wing Chun practitioners of all time;
      2. He incorporated Wing Chun moves into JKD;
      3. He trained under the legendary Ip Man. How many folks on this channel, had that rare privilege?
      Or we can follow your thinking, ignore the elephant in the room and pretend that Lee has no relevance to Wing Chun.

    • @adam28171
      @adam28171 Před rokem

      oh dear 😅, another Bruce Lee junkie. Strange how you took my comments as defensive, when Infact they were stating clear facts about WC is more interesting than Bruce Lee!!
      Bruce Lee may be the most famous WC movie star, that doesn’t mean he is the best at WC! And that’s the point Izzo makes over and over. He didn’t even know the full system!!! But hey that doesn’t matter……it’s who you trained with, rather than how deep is your knowledge and understanding!!! According to you PMSL🤣.
      And with that thinking we could slate Yip Man for not having trained with the founding Nun or Wing Chun herself 😩🙄. Ip man IS NOT the be all and end all in Wing Chun!
      If you want to discuss “Lee’s art JKD” then your argument would have been better stating Dan Inosanto! As he IS still alive, he has a number of WC instructors, he has completed the system, he has trained with Lee! But Again, even though Inosanto is a living legend in martial art circles, JKD is not WC, plain and simple. With 40 years in martial arts and zero in WC I like so many other followers of the channel enjoy the WC without BS attached, if I wanted to be a Bruce Lee groupie I’d find another channel where I could worship the movie star and liked minded people would agree with everything I posted as I got caught up in cinematic fighting compared to pure WC.
      Goodbye and good luck with your worship, I’m sure Bruce appreciates it.
