  • Help support my channel on Patreon: / random_noise Hello Everyone! a few days ago I have uploaded this Goa Trance Jam:
    • Korg Electribe 2 - Goa... and someone asked if I can show how I did it and create a tutorial for that.
    Its not easy to go back and breakdown a track that I already created to try to explain my thoughts process, because I am usually just expressing myself in the making, but in this tutorial I've tried my best to go through all the different parts and explained to you my workflow.
    This tutorial explore the early stages from my inspiration, to thinking about the idea and conceptualizing it on the Electribe, and how I further develop it with more sounds and structure, and finally how I prepare it for the actual performance and recording.
    Like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video and would like to see more upcoming. I post weekly electronic music jams and tutorials on both hardware gears and softwares :)

      This is a good lesson .i play guitar but have liked dance for years as well and only know a few chords but origional being influenced by hardcore techno or trance (i dont like hardcore now) i dont have problem coming up with some thing but find it easier to make 'darker music' which even psych rock has that feel . i dont know nothing about what leval s you need for the filter ect (only for the bass) do u know how the pulse sound goes example eg. 33

      Tried doing the same with my sampler e2 doing the sine but forgot about no filter and the osc ect .Came out catchy and a but of a hook but the main sine sound was more of a 'ringing' whistling -a bit sound .Ill watch this vid when i try again.

    thanks a lot for this. made me unshelve my E2.
    btw, a hint: E2 has the scale called Spanish - it's like 2-in-1 Phrygian Dominant (THAT signature goa trance scale) and Phrygian (the difference between them is major 3rd vs minor 3rd, the rest is common).
    also, for those who might read this and find Spanish scale in Roland boxes: Roland's implementation of Spanish scale is different - it has diminished 5th instead of regular 5th.

    If you turn off filters even on parts you don't use, they say you can free up some DSP resources and get less voice stealing. So if you don't need a filter, it should be off. Same for IFX, it should be set to PUNCH, the first effect, if not in use.
    I think this info is from Korg.
    The video was a great technical and musical breakdown of your workflow and your track.

    Sometimes I use EG+ pitch modulation on kick samples to give them a harder transients.

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Před 3 lety

      I've tried that in the past and wasn't so much happy with the results to be honest.. I feel like the envelope is not fast enough to use that method on samples. With the synth oscillators I use that quite often though to create percussive sounds.

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Před rokem

      Glad to know this is helpful! 😊 If you press a few time on each one of the filter buttons (where it says LPF, BPF, HPF) you will cycle through different types of filters, the Acid one will be there too

    Thank you very much. That’s very well explained and very inspiring.👍 I am also a big fan of goa trance and psytrance. Just one more question. After recording do you make post processing in Ableton live for example?

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Před 3 lety +1

      I do, I apply just a few mastering effects like compression and a bit of eq to add some polish to it. WIth this specific track I have also added the sample in the beginning inside of Ableton.

    @LuisTorres-qz5kr Před 3 lety +1

    Thanks for the follow-up (tutorial) to the previous video (jam). GREAT job on the explanations along with your process (and ideas) to create this track. How many patterns do you finish with for this particular track? Do you usually set how many pattern changes you want within a track? Thanks!

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Před 3 lety +1

      This particular track ended up with 4 patterns. I usually don't make that decision ahead, only after I had the initial idea I start to think about arrangement and structure and keep adding patterns based on the need. But it is usually not more than 4-5. I find it hard to manage and remember which one is which when you have too many patterns.

    • @LuisTorres-qz5kr
      @LuisTorres-qz5kr Před 3 lety

      @@RandomNoiseMusic Thanks for the follow-up! Could not agree more as it comes to manageability. Would think it also depends on length of each (# of bars or time).

    have a question: why my Edit knob have a forward/reverse usless funcion instead of your amazing usefull function? i have elecribe 2 sampler, is different by default, is possible to change the functionality in some way? thank u for your inspiring video

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      Ah, this is the synth version of the Electribe which include more oscillators and filters. So that knob is used to edit the oscillator settings. I thought it work the same on the sampler version when editing an oscillator 🧐

    • @gia7676
      @gia7676 Před 2 lety

      @@RandomNoiseMusic hope so, the edit osc change the oscillator wave form (!), my knob actually edit start sample (fw/rew), but i can reach that result using right edit knob, modulating the EG+osc modulation filter

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      Sorry, I don't speak Italian but will try to answer: The Synth version of the Electribe (Blue one) has more oscillators and filters types than the Sampler version (Red one). So the Acid filter only available on the Synth version as far as I know...

  • @DominicJacksonFilm
    @DominicJacksonFilm Před 2 lety +1

    you realise if you used almost any other synth/sampler/drums machine combo it will sound 100 x better than this? because the electribe 2 sucks its not a proper synth or anything more like a toy with 1 dimensional sounds

    • @RandomNoiseMusic
      @RandomNoiseMusic  Před 2 lety +1

      While I agree its synth engine is quite limited, I would not call it a toy. I think you can get some decent old school sounds out of it (if you are into those) and beside it is a real fun machine :)

    • @DominicJacksonFilm
      @DominicJacksonFilm Před 2 lety +1

      @@RandomNoiseMusic yeah its ok its a tone making machine not really a synth but I didnt find it that fun as it could not do the super basic things I wanted it to do :( But can get some interesting sounds out of it thats for sure
