  • Hey guys! I've been asked a few times in the past, how to use the external audio input on the Electribe 2. Well, I thought this would be a good subject for a tutorial video in case there others out there who don't know how to do this. ;) I also demo a few of the different ways the Electribe can process external audio (Roland SE-02) and apply it's built-in effects.
    Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy the video. Thanks for watching, littleBIGsynths :)

      Might be more practical and usable than a Roland SP from the looks of it. I wish the Electribe2 didn't sound so much "like an MP3".

  • @hughthemusicalengineer4365

    After watching your tutorial I decided to do the same and feed the audio out from my Roland SE-02 into my Korg Electribe 2 Music Production, and connected the sync output from the Korg into the SE-02, so I was running a sequence on the Roland and drums on the Korg. Great being able to use the reverb in the Korg.
    Next I plan to use midi out from the Korg into the SE-02 so everything can be sequenced from the Korg.
    Interesting times.

    Great video showing how these two can be play together in different ways. I recently got an ES2 and my Roland SH-01A hasn't been getting much attention because I really like the synths on the ES2 and I also wanted to learn this one first. I can't wait to do more experiments with them soon, thanks for the inspiration!

      +invisible elephant Thank You! Glad you enjoyed the video. :) The Electribe is a really great device with great synth engine. It's also a really good sequencer, drum machine, FX processor, etc, etc. Lol All around bang for your buck. ;) Pair this up with external synths and let the fun begin. Lol

    Electribe 2 ok packs a lot of excellent quality KORG features from the sq1 and kaos pad into such a usable package with nice internal sounds not cringeworthy or noisy patches. I’ve only got a cv synth but 2 midi ones and a drum module on the way could control them all with this instead of a daw. I like the sound and workflow. Maybe I’ll try score editors at a later date..

    So I learnt a nice little trick from your volca step trigger video earlier and created something real nice using that. I use an electribe sampler as a sequencer and you've just shown me something else I didn't know about that(routing it back in to the audio input and using the effects on it). You really are a great source of knowledge for a novice. Your opinion would be helpful if you have one. I have a minilogue, was the first 'proper' synth I bought, had it about 4 months but I'm not sure it's for me. I was going to get the se-02 but went for the minilogue as it had a keyboard(even though I have no real keyboard skills!). I'm thinking I'm gonna sell my minilogue and buy either an se-02 or maybe an sh-01A, I'm into techno/electro/house, any views would be helpful.

    • @XeneiFana
      @XeneiFana Před 6 lety

      adamoliver82 you could use the electribe as a sequencer for your minilogue through midi and forget about the keyboard. I’m sure the minilogue has great sound!

    • @adamoliver82
      @adamoliver82 Před 6 lety

      be_the_noise I was using it that way, the electribe is great for sequencing. There's just something about the minilogue that doesn't seem right for me, I prefer the volca keys.

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  Před 6 lety

      adamoliver82 Yeah, man! The Electribe is actually a really powerful tool. I love it!
      I think the SH01a would be great. It has the polyphonic mode so you won't miss out on playing chords, plus it is a much cheaper price tag. You will probably have some money left over. Lol
      On the other hand, the SE-02 is a remarkable synth and although it can play chords, it is still capable of creating some amazing sounds. I love my SE-02. I definitely think it has been one of my best purchases to date. It is a tiny powerhouse! :)
      Ps. Sorry for the late reply.

Basically i want the freeze pedal to be modulated.OR is there a better way? Obviously i guess the answer is to just try it but i thought I'd ask first.

    Hello thanks for the vid! Useful. However when I sequence the part as you did (trigger Saw for 16 step), the sound is not continuous and will "jump" between each measures. It does seem to happen in your video as you can play smoothly with your external keyboard with no interruption. Any idea how to fix this ?

    • @nicklane6122
      @nicklane6122 Před 4 lety +8

      You have to have a continuous midi note, to active this press record then hold down the pad you’ve assigned audio in to. Keep the pad held down until after the last bar, hit the record button again to stop recording and then release your finger from the pad. R beny did a tutorial on continuous notes and drones

    • @Jason75913
      @Jason75913 Před 9 měsíci +1

      Interruptions are caused by note length(s) not being set to TIE. Shift + pad 12 is the shortcut to the step editor.

I’m very new to this ^^

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  Před 4 lety

      Hey! No problem! Thanks for watching. 🙂
      I am not familiar with the Behringer Crave... but if you are simply trying to get them to play together with a synced tempo, you will most likely just use the MIDI OUT of the Electribe into the MIDI IN of the Crave. The Crave might be set to run on its internal clock by default, so you will need to set it to receive an external MIDI clock.
      If you are trying to get both of them to play out of a single set of speakers or headphones: you will need an audio mixer to combine the 2 audio output signals OR you can feed the Craves audio into the AUDIO IN of the Electribe; which will allow you to hear both devices from a single audio output.
      Hope all this makes some sense.

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  Před 6 lety +1

      +FUNKBEAST HI! Well, you can't necessarily record the external sounds into the Electribe... you can only sequence the external gear.
      Select a "part"/pad. Each pad sends data on individual channels. So pad 1 = channel 1, pad 2 = channel 2, etc, etc.
      Set your external synth to match the part/pad that you want and then make sure you set the oscillator Type to "audio in". If you still don't hear anything... make sure to use the oscillator edit knob to increase the gain. You should be able to play the pads in keyboard mode and hear the external synth. Once it's all setup to play via keyboard mode... You can then input and record your sequence and it will play the external synth via the sequencer. Hope this makes sense.
      I may do in depth video on how to sequence External gear. So stay tuned. :)

      +Christian Kenne Always happy to help! :) I don't think the Electribe is capable of recording external gear and playing it back. Don't quote me on that though. I am like %99 sure. I will look into this a bit more, because someone else asked me the same question recently.

    Hey, i recently bought the roland se-02, i like the video but is there any way to record the notes played on the se-02 and make it loop in the korg electribe 2? Would be really useful

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  Před 5 lety

      Sorry, I'm not sure if I understand your question. You can sequence notes on the SE-02 and they will play through the audio input. As long as they are synced together, they will play together in time. You can also use the Electribe 2 to sequence the SE-02 and that will also play back throughout the input. If I didnt answer your question.. please elaborate a bit more. Always glad to help. 🙂 Thanks

      @@littleBIGsynths say that you want to save that melody of yours and sound from se-02 in the electribe so you can then play it without the se-02 like when recording internal sounds. Is electribe capable for that?

  • @SRF_1031
    @SRF_1031 Před 6 lety +1

    I dont get the point of Sample 17 Audio In Mn...Your video was great. However is it not possible to record that way? Like nothing you played could be recorded or saved without sampling as you regularly would.

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  Před 6 lety +1

      This is the synth version of the electribe. There are no sampling capabilities on this version. The external audio input is simply used for processing audio (filter, FX, etc)
      You can not record any external sounds... but you can create and store sequences that can control external gear. Sequencing, in combination with the audio input, can be very fun and really useful. 👍
      Hope I didnt stay too far from your question. 🙂

      @@littleBIGsynths my apologies. You're right, the black one is the sampler. HOWEVER , I found videos showing us how to sample incoming audio for the grey ones (which is the same one I have as well!)

      No problem at all. 😁
      I dont think there is any difference in hardware between the two... it's just different firmware. So, yes, In theory... all you would need to do is swap the firmware and you should be golden. 🤔 lol Not worth the risk IMO. I prefer the synth version anyways. It has a pretty great synth engine. 👍

    In order to plug " Electric Guitar " to it for sampling and playing along ---> can you plug electric guitar to mixer and from mixer output to electribe 2 and from electribe to speaker?
    is that the best way?r esle...

    I have a question, can I input my boss gt 10 digital guitar pedalboard into my electribe2 without breaking it?? Can I use an average microphone for the input? what microphone should I buy if so? thanks

    • @littleBIGsynths
      @littleBIGsynths  Před 5 lety +1

      Interesting question. As far as the pedal board is concerned, I'm not sure how you would or what you would achieve by doing this. Do you possibly mean running the Electribe through your pedal board to use the effects?
      The Electribe might not have enough gain to push a mic into a decent volume... but if it did... you would still need a microphone that has a 1/4" cable with a 3.5mm adapter in order to get the signal into the E2 to begin with.
      An alternative approach would be to run microphone into a mixer that has preamps and phantom power, and then run the "tape out" signal into the E2. This will ensure that the mic at least has enough power going into the E2. Just make sure to keep an eye on the "clipping" indicator to make sure the signal is not overwhelming the E2.
      Hope some of this info could be useful. Thanks for watching

      @@littleBIGsynths hi man, I plugged my mobile phone, but it sounds a bit low, the input volume at full, the mobile phone volume at full.
      THe point is that I plug my electribe to my guitar amp,, but I would like to use my guitar in the same guitar amp, so my idea was to send my digital pedalboard through the electribe input. Honestly I doubt about the quality, though.
      also my digital pedal has conversion to midi, it transforms sounds and sends them to midi through a USB I think.
      I thought that I could control the instruments through my guitar..

      +Christian Kenne Alright, I'll try and break it down.
      To get started, set your synth or keyboard to MIDI channel 1. Make sure the output from your device is connected to the input of the electribe.
      On the electribe: select pad 1. Press record and then using the "keyboard" mode, play any note. (Hold that note for the entire duration of 16 steps. *if you go to "sequencer mode, you should see all of the steps lit up. At this point you should have a single sustained note. Now change the oscillator type to "audio in thru".
      Now you want to play some notes on your synth/keyboard and look to see if you can see any activity in the electribe lcd display. You should see a audio level indicator. Using the oscillator "edit" knob, increase the gain to hear the incoming audio.
      At this point, you should have incoming audio on part 1/pad 1. You should be able to now apply master and insert fx to the incoming audio.
      I hope this all made sense and works out for you. Let me know. :)
