The show was ok. Not great, but not terrible. I just think if they had the rights to certain things like The Silmarillion, it couldâve been even better. Even if the show wasnât great, the score that Bear McCreary composed for the show is amazing!
@@Mamulel Well, the Tolkien estate denied them the rights to the works they wanted to use like The Silmarillion, so all they could use and reference were The Lord Of The Rings and its appendices. They also fabricated and improvised stories that were never written by Tolkien because they had limited rights. Many of the storylines portrayed in the show arenât from Tolkienâs works but rather the show runners and writers, so thatâs why I didnât fully believe it when they said it was based on the works of Tolkien. Disregarding all of that like I said I personally think that the score Bear McCreary composed for the show is amazing. He couldnât reference any of themes that Howard Shore used in the Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies due to Amazon having limited rights to the works, so he had to create original themes and pieces and I personally think he did an amazing job. I think if you take the Lord Of The Rings name off of it then itâs an alright show. But with it being LOTR related I just donât think it works very well if you compare it to Tolkienâs works. In general I personally think the pacing was too slow, the acting felt forced and the storylines were very confusing and drawn out at times. Of course Amazon provided them with a $100-$150 million budget which they believed was likely to exceed $1 billion. Visually the show is beautiful. The world building and design is great. The writing, acting and pacing not so much, in my opinion. In ultimatum, I just donât think they used Tolkienâs works effectively like Peter Jackson did with his films.
Say want you will about this show, but the Sauron reveal was chilling
I donât know about chilling but I love the moment Between him and Galadriel on the boat
The Lord of Dark and the Lady of Light

â@@nickavenoso7851What stopped them from reading and improving the show subtly?
