    Now this is very interesting.
    Many live streamers are trying to solve their Audio sync issue (I include myself in that).
    The oversight is that the sync issue is not at all the audio but more so the video frame rate.
    For instance, I use the Sony a7riv for streaming using 1080p 60fps but when looking in the specs for this camera the frame rate is 59.94fps.
    Good to know there is a frame rate adjustment setting for that in the Atem's software.

    Great breakdown. I wasn't even thinking about audio mixing using the device. So as an example, let's say I wanted to use the camera 1 audio as my only audio for some reason (like it has XLR). If you set it up in the software, are you able to make it so that the cam 1 audio stays the active audio source, even when you switch to another camera?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      Yes! You'd use the "on" button on camera 1 audio rather than the "AFV" (auto-follow-video) option. You can do this from the buttons on the device or from within the audio mixer in the software.

  • @btconf

    Concerning the missing headphone jack: have you thought about a HDMI/Audio Splitter to split the signal, get a jack with two outputs and direct one to your headphone and route the other back to the video as well? Might evoke quality loss, though. 🤔

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      I've been using the ATEM Mini with streamyard, but in that mode really it's just the webcam output from the ATEM that's being used and it shows up as one of the cameras in streamyard. The only advantage of the ATEM Mini Pro in that situation is the multiview out, since you can't stream from the Pro hardware itself to streamyard, only as a webcam through the computer.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety +1

      The ATEM buttons can't be configured to run macros, but there is a setting on the ATEM Mini that will disable any active keyers when a camera angle is switched to. I haven't tried this myself but I think it would work in your case. The setting is part of the setup app, not the software control app.

    Seems like a very simple program modification to allow this? Even if it were a paid added feature

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      Doubtful. Motion graphics is a huge amount of software, and even the high end ATEMs don't have anything like that. The higher end ATEMs do have video playback so you can load in animations, but that requires additional hardware and memory on the device to support it so i don't expect to see that coming to the Mini line.

I want to buy the Atem mini but for the lack of this feature. Great work on the xml files by the way. I'm fishing for a workaround to setup multiscreen with multi view features. I have a lot of monitors here setup so I can view everything that is cued and ready, going blind is not my thing. Showing those various multi views live at times would also be good gimmick and a great to be able to do at times.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety +1

      Sorry, there's just no option to have a multiview on the ATEM Mini right now. You could do it by hooking up some external devices for it, but at that point you'll have spent the cost of the next ATEM model up so you might as well get that one instead.

      @@aaronpk Hi Aaron I think there might be a workaround for this. I'm thinking just now it's possible using a macro, a stream deck, a lattepanda or some other single board mini computer using html pages, browser on full screen but it would require a good database, there is likely to already be an open source app that would do the job. What do you think?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      I'm not sure exactly what you have in mind, but the only thing the HDMI out can show is the program out or preview of the next camera. There's no way to output all of the inputs from the Mini.
      You could absolutely get a multiview if you built it outside the Mini. I've been thinking about doing that just for a video, but it'll cost like $800 in parts to do it, which is a little much.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      The USB output (of both) will be a compressed webcam version of the signal. The Pro is USB 3 where the regular Mini is USB 2, so it's possible the pro might provide a higher quality signal, but I'll have to test that once I get mine!
      Recording from the HDMI output into a dedicated recorder from either device will be the same.
      Using the built-in recording feature of the Pro will record the h264 stream that it pushes out on the livestream, so that will probably be better than the webcam, but worse than using an external HDMI recorder like the Blackmagic Video Assist.
      This is all based on what I've seen in the announcements so far, I'll have to test this stuff out in more detail once I get mine in!

      No, only still images. Only the very expensive ATEMs can include animations in the media pool. Check out my Hyperdeck video for an example of how to play animated graphics with the ATEM Mini though!

    Nice video, I have a question, once you save all the macros from the Atem mini pro into the stream deck, it is possible to connect the stream deck directly in the Atem without connecting the computer? I would love to have freedom and not so many devices in my podcast, now I have the Atem, the zoom podtrak p4, adding the stream deck and a computer I will make the table full of things and I'm producing it myself, thank you in advance for the answer.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 9 měsíci +1

      You'll need some sort of computer that is running Companion for the Stream Deck. One way to make this smaller without carrying a full laptop is to run Companion on a Raspberry Pi.

Stream deck and companion are working but the ATEM Mini doesn’t do anything. Just wanted to know if the update on the mini changed anything. Thanks

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      You'll need to connect the Mini to the network so that it has an IP address, then it should show up in Companion. I'm guessing you have it connected only over USB right now.

      I'm not familiar with that app, but it would require configuring the app to send your computer a message to send to the ATEM, so you might need another intermediate app that can control the ATEM with OSC commands for example. Sounds like it's worth investigating though!

      There is only one HDMI port, so you'd need an HDMI splitter in order to do this.

      Aaron Parecki but with a splitter can use 2 monitors for this? Any splitter recommendation or it doesn’t matter?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      Any splitter should work, but if you need the monitors to be farther apart than a few feet you'll want to make sure to get a high quality one or run SDI cables instead of HDMI.

  • @vanceFITE

    Are there any workarounds or secrets to link the ATEM Mini to a Hyperdeck Mini? I know you could technically keep the hdmi as a program out and convert to sdi, but wondered if there's any way to not lose the preview out (without having to do something like splitting all the sources prior to ATEM Mini inputs and going to a multiview) ?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety +1

      Unfortunately that is the limitation of the Mini, there is only one HDMI out and it is going to be either your preview or your program. In my opinion, at the point you're buying a Hyperdeck which is over twice the cost of the ATEM Mini, you've outgrown the target market for the Mini and you're better off buying the $995 ATEM TV Studio which integrates with the Hyperdeck way better. The Mini is really meant for smaller scale productions where the preview out isn't necessary.

    • @vanceFITE
      @vanceFITE Před 4 lety +1

    Aaron would it be an option to have the ATEM and stream deck connected to a raspberry pi to with ethernet such that you do not need a computer in between?

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety

      It looks like the software that connects the Stream Deck and the ATEM Mini does run on Linux, and is technically unsupported on a Raspberry Pi but probably works anyway. github.com/bitfocus/companion/wiki/Installation So it looks like that'd be an option. I'm tempted to try to hook this up because I'd love to not have to use my computer for this!

    I am a total noob to video podcasting, I like the features of the ATEM Mini, and I was thinking about purchasing 3 Canon Vixia Cameras at about $200 apiece, not sure what else I need besides my beefy MSI gaming laptop to get started any recommendations would be very appreciated. I am scouring the Internet and CZcams, there is so much information and noise it's challenging. Any help is great, thank you.

    • @aaronpk
      @aaronpk  Před 4 lety +2

      I have those same Vixia cameras, and while they're not the best, they're also totally fine especially for the price. I would actually recommend them especially if you're just starting out, because anything that's going to get you a significant bump in quality is going to bump the price up to at least $1000 per camera.
      You'll also need some sort of good microphone, either plugged into the cameras or plugged into the ATEM Mini itself. There's also lighting to think about, but you can get by with careful placement around the windows in your room to start. The gaming laptop will be able to record and livestream from the Mini so that should be about it!
